PNP Region 8 to be Powered With DOE Hybrid Patrol Cars

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Energy (DOE), thru the Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB), is donating 45 hybrid patrol cars to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 8 in line with its mandate to promote the use of energy-efficient vehicles.

The DOE will hold the turnover ceremony of the 2017 Model of Toyota Prius units on Wednesday, August 16, at the Matapat Hall, PNP Region 8 Headquarters, Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte. The patrol cars are to be distributed in the provinces of Leyte, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar.

Sec. Alfonso G. Cusi stated that "more than the promotion of efficient and environment-friendly alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs), the donation serves as an opportunity for the DOE to support the development of areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda."

"It will also assist the DOE in the research, performance testing and promotion for the local adoption of alternative fuel vehicles for the benefit of the consumers," Cusi emphasized.

The Necessary Theater All Set for Olivier Winner for Best Play 'Blackbird' on September 1

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Play, Blackbird is a deeply complex portrayal of two people whose ruined lives are inextricably intertwined.

Una, a 27-year-old woman, comes to visit Ray, a 55-year-old man, at his office. They are clearly not comfortable in other's company, and we soon find out why: 15 years before, when Una was only twelve, Ray seduced Una over the course of three months and finally took her away to a hotel for the weekend. Ray spent several years in prison for statutory rape, and Una was ostracized from her community after the incident. Now, she has found him by accident, and the play delves into their complex feelings for each other. Though clearly, and definitional, sexual abuse has occurred, the play that ensues is also part of a love story -- a horrible love story, but a love story all the same.

Australia-born Reece McLaren Aims to Personify Filipino Warrior’s Heart in Cage Return

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“Who is Reece McLaren?” That was the question of the night during the ONE: SPIRIT OF CHAMPIONS fight week in December 2015 when he surfaced as Jordan Lucas’ late replacement to face Filipino-American sensation Mark “Mugen” Striegl.

Striegl was supposed to have an easy night against a relatively-unknown Australian martial artist entering a high-profile bout on eight days notice, but McLaren begged to disagree and educated everyone about who he is and what he is capable of.

McLaren pulled off a major upset in his promotional debut by submitting Striegl with a rear-naked choke in the aforementioned event’s co-headliner.

Showcasing his never-say-die attitude, McLaren overcame a series of takedowns and a second-round knockdown against the highly-favored Striegl, but he methodically chipped away with stinging leg kicks.

As his counterpart appeared to lose steam in the final frame, McLaren countered a weary takedown attempt with solid elbows before he advanced to Striegl's back to latch on the bout-ending choke at the 3:33 mark of the third round.

After his impressive conquest of Striegl, the thousands inside the state-of-the-art SM Mall of Asia Arena were instantly introduced to the name of Reece “Lighting” McLaren.

Brilliant 5 Edtech Programs For Stellar Grades

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Internet has profoundly developed over the last 2 decades, forever changing humanity in so many ways. We now depend on the internet to a variety of tasks. This is enhanced by the fact that it offers interconnectivity on a global scale. Through the internet, the world has indeed become a global village whereby you can access facilities that were previously impossible without traveling to overseas destinations. During this developmental stage, several entities rose up to take advantage of the new developing phenomenon, Internet of Things, to create new structure that impacts us daily. The Silicon Valley, for example, developed several programs and devices for educational purposes. Most recently, Edtech is concentrated on creating programs that are increasingly becoming more significant in classrooms worldwide.

In this article, we are going to explore some of the ways in which Internet of Things has impacted the education sector giving birth to the global scale classroom. Specifically, we shall tackle the software part of this development whereby we’ll discuss the various programs developed by Edtech that can be used to improve grades for students.

The following are 5 brilliant programs that can help students on how to write an essay, term paper, understand certain subjects, and other classroom activities to get stellar grades:

1.PingPong

This is an interactive app created by Waterbear Soft, which is made for both teacher and student. It saves you from the hassle of having to register for memberships and logins. When the teacher enters the classroom, the app connects to all the smart devices within the classroom range. From that stage, the teacher can administer a quick quiz or share the content they want to reach the students.

The teacher will install the app on their smart device and log in. After this, they open virtual classrooms and students can join the session and deliver their responses to the assigned tasks, and as such, are constantly engaged in the coursework.

This app gives moderating privileges to the instructors. They are the only ones who can maintain their digital autonomy. Once the student joins a session, they are locked in and can’t leave to go surfing or engage in other activities. This app is free and has 15million users in Korea.

PingPong currently supports very limited responses which are:

Yes/no
Short texts
Drawings and
Multiple choices

2.Educreations

This is an interactive app that converts your iPad into a recordable whiteboard delivering stunning presentations equipped with images, videos, text, and audio. For students, it offers the ability to create and share video lessons online. For the teacher, it offers the ability to create presentations and to create and administer assessment projects.

The app is useful not only for assessment purposes but can also be applied in the learning process. For instance, in English lessons, students can use the app to see how different characters interact with each other. In Science classes, students can classify plants and animals into their respective taxonomical orders. For History classes, students can use illustrations to better understand what they are learning.

Through the captivating and user-friendly graphical representations, students are more deeply engaged in the learning process and absorb more content. This app gives teachers the advantage of tapping into other teacher’s public lessons.

3.Udemy

Whenever there is a population of individuals willing to learn, there will be a demand for individuals who can teach them. No matter the level of education you have attained, there is a skill or two you have developed and you can teach them to other learners. Despite the position you are in, to learn or to teach, you should check out the online teaching and learning marketplace Udemy.

This program offers a wide range of courses that you can select from if you want to learn. On the other hand, if you want to teach your unique skill to others, you get to create your own course whereby learners will select it for lessons after you sign up as an instructor. This is a good way of earning some extra money which can supplement your hefty tuition fees.

4.Coursera

At times, you may be forced to get some help on these essays. Essay services are a good way of outsourcing for help on your essays.

You simply upload your order and a competent freelance writer will get working on your essay. For these services, you will be required to pay a fee that’s in accordance with the level and magnitude of your course. You will be in a contact with the writer who will update you on the progress of your order and you only pay once you’re satisfied.

The modern students in the contemporary digital education systems require modern learning resources in a virtual domain where they can cultivate new skills and talents for the 21st-century economy. OFWs May Now Avail of Terminal Fee Exemption Via Ceb Mobile App

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Pursuant to the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Transportation – Manila International Airport Authority (DOTr – MIAA) and all airlines operating at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Cebu Pacific has updated its booking systems to ensure that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) shall be exempt from paying terminal fee upon online booking of tickets.

Starting July 8, OFWs who choose to book their flights via the Cebu Pacific mobile app only need to tick a box before payment is processed to be exempted from paying the Php550 International Passenger Service Charge (IPSC) or terminal fee. Exemption has been applied to hotline and website transactions since April.

Under the MOA, the fee shall be waived for OFWs, pilgrims, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) delegates, and others authorized by law and the Office of the President to travel outside the Philippines. Effective 30 April 2017, exemption was initially honored upon face to face purchase of tickets, but by the end of July, the exemption was also applied to online purchases. Prior to this, migrant workers and delegates needed to queue for refund when departing from NAIA.

Exempted passengers are required to present valid documents upon check in to verify their eligibility for exemption.

The MOA was signed last 15 March 2017 with all 40 airlines operating in NAIA agreeing to make the exemption automatic upon booking. The move is consistent with the objectives of the DOTr and the directive of President Duterte to give OFWs a seamless and hassle-free experience at the airport.

It can be recalled that the IPSC Integration Project implemented in February 2015 was met with opposition from concerned OFW groups and advocates as it required OFWs to go through a refund process.

Mr. and Ms. Chinatown 2017 Media Launch

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The 15 female and male contestants of the 4th Mr. and Ms. Chinatown: New Dynasty were presented to the media at the Solaire Resorts and Casino. This year’s batch of hopefuls come from Metro Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao and other key cities around the country, all competing for the prestigious beauty title.  During the program, Ms. Joy Wu and Mr. Jacob Munes were chosen as the evening’s Darling of the Press. Mr. and Ms. Chinatown 2017 Grand coronation will be on September 1, 2017 at Solaire Resorts and Casino.

Undeniably, pageants have become an inextricable part of the Filipino culture. In fact, the country has recently been dubbed as a powerhouse in pageantry. This love for pageants, they say, is ingrained in our system and could be traced back to the American colonial period, when women from different regions across the country gathered in traders’ fairs to represent and promote their localities. Now, almost every Filipino town and institution has its own local competition where winners are expected to personify the attributes and values of the community.

Mr. and Ms. Chinatown was created from this concept. Since its creation in 2013 Chinoy TV, together with the Miss Chinatown Foundation has been staging the grand competition every year. With various themes that highlight the grandeur of Chinoy life, it is the much-awaited annual event of the Chinese-Filipino community.

This year’s pageant theme is “New Dynasty” which seeks to create a re-defined image of the Chinoy, characterized by the graceful combination of traditional values and a contemporary, progressive stance. Mr. and Ms. Chinatown: New Dynasty is anchored on the belief that the modern Chinoy is open-minded and ready to brave change and new heights.

Mr. and Ms. Chinatown 2017 Grand coronation will be on September 1, 2017 at Solaire Resorts and Casino.

Ms. Joy Wu and Mr. Jacob Munes were chosen as the evening’s Darling of the Press.

Challenge Accepted: Bloggers Need to Level Up to Deserve a Spot as Credible and Competent Media

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Look, everyone invested in this thread seems to want a seat at the big boys table. And, why not? There is money to be made, opportunities to be mined, goals to be met (whether you're in it for a byline, a paycheck, a commission, a sponsorship, an endorsement deal). But realize that this is a competition. We are not here to hold hands and sing Hamilton songs in unison while gazing at each other. We are here to ensure that we are experts in our chosen beat because that is how we add value for our readers. I, for one, would love to read about a pasta called Croxetti, in the hopes of tasting some one day on the strength of a writer's informed recommendation. I would skip a half-assed "This is what I did today" puff piece, which only really works if you're a celebrity living under a fanbase microscope (Tangina, almusal ni Benedict Cumberbatch kanina adobo flakes! Shookt!)." - Karlo Samson
The intention of a trad or mainstream media for posting the story below on his Facebook wall is probably good. However, some of the side comments of this thread starter and most of the comments from his Facebook friends are not. It only put bloggers (both his friend and the two others) in a bad light because we can see here that it's a blogger sharing negative stories about other bloggers who met at an event.

There is something wrong when a guest questions why there seems to be other guests that are not fit for an event they were all invited at. Do not question anybody's presence because maybe you are the one who is not appropriate for the event....or they are special friends with the event organizers...Lol!

The thread starter also cited social media feeds where PR companies can be seen asking bloggers to sign-up at their events in exchange of GCs, and likewise cited bloggers asking for others to represent them at events. He never mentioned what's wrong with those incidents but he must be somehow implying that those were unusual or wrong.

Though another fear of this mainstream media is that the same type of clueless bloggers may finally get the chance to enter Malacanang (due to the recent announcement that the government will now start accepting bloggers as valid media), he forgets that the same issues he has cited has been around for ages even for trad media. We all know also that even the President himself questions trad media's credibility. Now that the government is considering bloggers, there might be some people threatened to further lose opportunities for their publication.

Wazzup with the "Freebies that end up for sale or for barter online" statement? Is he trying to insinuate that there are bloggers that only exists for freebies?

Bear in mind that we are not trying to make this a bloggers-versus-trad media issue, it just so happens that the thread starter is a member of the media and people involved in the issue he raised are bloggers:
