WSI Presents World-Leading IT Solutions to Dominate Philippine Landscape

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Wordtext Systems, Inc., (WSI), one of the leading and the oldest pure IT distributor in the Philippines, recently showcased the technologies they are carrying together with the top-tier solutions and services  from their partner brands on February 17, 2017 at the WSI headquarters in Makati city.

The event highlighted WSI's  top solutions in mobility, data and security, and cloud computing technology. WSI showcased solutions in unified communications, virtualization, design & creatives, printing and imaging, business intelligence and analytics, security & back-up and networking.

Since I had another event happening almost at the same time, I requested WSI if I could come in earlier than the call time, and they agreed. However, I got there a bit earlier as expected as I had to cancel my earlier meeting in fear the traffic congestion of the metro would make it impossible for me to attend the event if I would still continue with the earlier meeting.

Thus, I got a sort of special arrangement and interview sessions with some of their engineers who accommodated my early presence.

Brands like Panasonic, Addasound, Citrix, Nuance, Huawei, Samsung, HP, WinTab, Jab, and a lot more participated in the event.

WSI also officially launched their Tech Lab, a technical laboratory where they could do product demonstrations, proof of concepts, and other technical experiments for the support of their resellers and end users for consultation and other value-added services. For IT peeps, especially network and systems administrators, this could be considered as a dream laboratory as the technical stuff you could do here is endless. I would love to play with all these top-of-the-line laboratory equipment like it was my batcave... ooppss! I think I just admitted I am Batman in real life. Lol!

Panasonic: Japan Quality for the Next 50 Years and Beyond

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (PMPC) is marking its 50th year with targets and offerings that aim to surpass its previous milestones.

You'll distinctively see the Japan Quality proudly displayed among the logos and signage on stage together with the many kinds of appliances showcased all over the ball room of Makati Shangri-La Hotel on February 15, 2017.

The lavish buffet of gastronomic delights highlighted by the several choices for desserts add to the grandeur of the day. It would make you think that this is a special event as we could clearly see the extravagance all around us.

Oh, how I wanted to bring home one of those Panasonic appliances - refrigerators, washing machines, LED monitors, airconditioning units,  a lot more smaller kitchen appliances plus the beauty gadgets of which all of us got to bring home one that can be use to cleanse the face.

But the real highlight of the day are the announcement of the great performance of their innovative products from the previous years and their hopeful assurance of surpassing their performance in the coming years up to three times what they have accomplished now.

In a bid to conquer every nook and cranny of the real estate scene, leading online property marketplace Lamudi Philippines is expanding its reach by launching its own lifestyle magazine centering on real estate.

Starting this quarter, Lamudi will release its self-titled real estate–focused magazine that aims not only to showcase exciting real estate products across the country, but also provide comprehensive and updated news and information on the local real estate scene.

“Our goal is for Lamudi to be known as the household brand for both online and print real estate. This way we will be able to reach both offline and online property hunters,” shared Bhavna Suresh Chathambeth, CEO of Lamudi Philippines and its sister website MyProperty.ph, which the former acquired from Summit Media in 2015. Together, Lamudi and MyProperty.ph are the Philippines most visited and largest real estate websites.

The magazine will be released every quarter and will be sold for Php150 in all National Book Store outlets.

“Although Filipinos are big Internet users, a large chunk of the local market still appreciates and follow traditional marketing such as print advertising. We acknowledge this so we decided to harness our real estate knowledge and authority to come up with an informative and helpful publication targeting both sellers and buyers alike,” added Ms. Suresh.

Lamudi also stressed that the magazine will utilize years’ worth of listings and search data accumulated by the website to study the online behavior of property hunters, information that will determine the next trends in the property sector. Therefore, everyone can expect only the best articles on the Lamudi magazine.

“Everything about real estate from digital trends to easy home hacks will excite the pages of the Lamudi magazine. We are also getting the views and insights of top real estate personalities to make sure that we will deliver the best to our readers,” Ms. Suresh added.

Taco Bell Cheesy Core Burrito

Wazzup Pilipinas!

For only Php139, you can avail of the Taco Bell Cheesy Core Burrito, and if you'll pair it with nachos and soda, it will only cost an additional Php40 making your bill Php179 only.

That's not only value for your money, but also a fabulous dining experience as you snack on a really cheesy treat from Taco Bell.

I personally had the chance to taste it only a few days after it became available at all branches of Taco Bell. At a bloggers' event, we were served the irresistibly delicious Cheesy Core Burrito which was indeed so cheesy to the core - red nacho chips smothered with Taco Bell's signature three cheese blend and nacho cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla surrounded by seasoned beef, Mexican rice, cool sour cream and red sauce wrapped into a burrito.

You would be salivating soon after seeing these yummy photos below:

I must admit that I wanted more after eating one piece of this Cheesy Core Burrito. I definitely love the cheese-filled core of this burrito from Taco Bell.

DOE Moves To Ensure Viability Of E-Vehicle Charging Stations

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi underscored on Tuesday the need to ensure the viability and safety of e-vehicle charging stations in gasoline stations.

Cusi cited the importance of the ground-laying work being done by an Ad-Hoc Technical Working Group (TWG) on the installation of the e-vehicle charging stations.

"We want the TWG to study the technical viability of the infrastructure, evaluate its safe operations by assessing the necessary protocols and standards, and to determine required policies and its supporting legal basis," said Cusi.

The Department of Energy (DOE) stands at the forefront of the government's promotion of alternative fuels and energy technologies, he added.

"The Technical Team must make recommendations on the advancement of e-vehicle charging stations and related infrastructures, such as other viable options for locations like malls and other establishments."

Cusi said safety and accessibility are also major considerations on where to put up e-vehicle charging stations.

Cusi created the TWG to determine the suitability of gasoline stations as charging areas for electric or e-vehicles with the emergence of the electric vehicle industry in the Philippines.

The TWG is co-chaired by the DOE-Energy Utilization Management Bureau and the DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau.

The DOE is in the process of drafting a circular for the policy guidelines in the overall development and increased utilization of alternative fuels and energy technologies, which includes the e-vehicle industry.

"I have to stress that this venture should be in compliance with existing environmental, safety and other relevant rules and regulations,” he added.

“Apart from increasing public awareness, the DOE in coordination with relevant government agencies will create an environment for the equitable and non-discriminatory access for alternative fuels and energy technologies with preference for indigenous ones. In the end, we seek the support of our kababayans to look into this endeavor and look into ways to enable our country to ably compete and create wealth for every Filipino,” Cusi concluded.

NPC Starts Probe Into COMELEC's 2nd Large Scale Data Breach; Issues Compliance Order

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) has ordered the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Monday to take serious measures to address its data processing vulnerabilities after the computer of the Office of the Election Officer (OEO) in Wao, Lanao Del Sur was stolen last January 11, 2017.

The stolen computer contains data from the Voter Registration System (VRS) and Voter Search applications, and the National List of Registered Voters (NLRV). The stolen data also contains biometric records of registered voters in Wao, Lanao del Sur.

In its initial probe, the NPC discovered that all COMELEC field offices across the country maintain their own soft copies of the NLRV, which contains the personal information of roughly 55 million voters.

The NLRV database was also used in the Precinct Finder application, which was exposed in last year’s COMELEC website data breach.

“This is already COMELEC’s second large-scale data breach in a span of less than a year—a case of a database being breached twice under different circumstances. This time, it involves actual large-scale biometrics data of voters in a municipality. The Commission is very concerned especially since there’s on-going voter registration nationwide. We will delve deeper into the problem to possibly recommend other measures for Comelec to implement to protect voter data nationwide,” said Privacy Commissioner Raymund Enriquez Liboro.

“This breach illustrates that there are many ways to lose personal data. That is why data protection is not only an IT security issue involving firewalls. It’s a governance matter that covers organizational and physical measures to protect data. In this case, failure to secure the very computer containing personal data can be just as disastrous. If the COMELEC won’t address the problem systemically, this will happen again and again,” Liboro added.

In its Compliance Order dated February 13, 2017, the NPC directed the poll body to erase all copies of the NLRV in the COMELEC’s computers in the different municipalities and cities, if the COMELEC cannot secure the database using appropriate organizational, physical and technical measures.

The privacy watchdog is also tasking the poll body to notify all data subjects affected by the personal data breach within two weeks. Individuals with records in the NLRV may be notified by COMELEC through publication in two newspapers of general circulation. The COMELEC is also being directed to individually notify the data subjects with records in the VRS in Wao, Lanao Del Sur.

Within two weeks, the poll body is also tasked to submit to the NPC its “proposed and implemented revisions” in the voter registration process, considering the Data Privacy Act of 2012, its Implementing Rules and Regulations, and other related NPC circulars.

The poll body is also being required to submit the status the measures it intends to implement in addressing this personal data breach, as outlined in its report to the NPC.

THE STOLEN COMPUTER

At around midnight of January 11, 2017, unidentified persons reportedly stole the desktop computer of the COMELEC’s OEO in Wao, Lanao Del Sur.

Seventeen days later, on January 28, 2017, COMELEC Executive Director Jose M. Tolentino notified the NPC of the data breach.

The data breach exposed information in the NLRV and the Voter Search application, and the detailed voter registration records of registered voters of Wao, Lanao del Sur.

The NLRV contains approximately 75,898,336 records as of October 17, 2016. Of these, 55,195,674 are active voters and 20,703,662 are deactivated voters.

The VRS contains a total of 58,364 registration records for Wao, Lanao del Sur. Of these, 40,991 records are for registered voters for the coming barangay elections (as of October 19, 2016), and 17,373 records are for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections (as of September 13, 2016).

The COMELEC identified 35,491 active records for the barangay elections, and 17,336 active records for the SK elections.

While the COMELEC claims the data in the database is encrypted, the COMELEC admitted that “[I]f the robber will be able to gain access to the VRS, and to decrypt the VRS and the NLRV data, the personal data might be used by unscrupulous persons for purposes other than those legitimately intended.”

Is the President of the Philippines a Murderer?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"A country where men who put their very lives on the line to speak truth are disregarded as liars, while drug lords turned state witnesses against the president's political opponent, who have every motivation to lie, are given immunity. The lack of curiosity and the instant dismissal of Malacanang is amazing." - Jing Adia

"With the compelling public confession of (SPO3 Arturo) Lascanas, I wonder:

a) How Duts will deny it, and turn the tables against Trillanes

b) How the palace propagandists can spin it as yet another dilawan plot, and what kind of story line they will feed their fanatic supporters so they continue to support this murdering president

c) How Dick will react, after he arrogantly dismissed Matobato's testimony as "fabricated". Will he now reopen the investigation, or dismiss this as well as part of a bigger plot?

d) How his blind supporters can continue to rationalize their rabid support after their idol has been exposed for what he truly is... a MURDERER

e) How Wiguerre will turn it around to blame De Lima.

f) How the Filipino people will react, especially those who have been sitting in the fence.

The truth is out. WE HAVE A PRESIDENT WHO IS A MURDERER." - Vicente Romano III

"The supporters of Rodrigo Duterte would not believe the testimonies and think Lascaño is lying and that this is just part of an elaborate plot to overthrow their "unstable" idol president. Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar pretty said as much, and even accused media being bribed $1,000 each to attend the press conference at the Senate. Senator Antonio Trillanes IV denied giving $1,000 to any of the member of the Senate press corps to cover the press briefing. Journalists covering the Senate fired back at him saying he should stop spreading fake news.

Lascañas earlier denied Matobato’s claim; saying it was nothing but ‘media hype. He also called Matobato a ‘liar’ and defended Duterte from the allegation of extra-judicial killings during the latter’s term as mayor of Davao City. But now he has changed heart that he even recounts how he killed his two brothers" involved in illegal drugs all in loyalty to Duterte and his war on drugs ever since he was Mayor of Davao city.  Unlike the other self-confessed DDS hitman, Edgar Matobato, Lascañas was closer to the long-time Davao City mayor, Senator Leila De Lima said. Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) lawyer Alex Padilla said that Lascañas wanted to go public as a "way of redeeming himself."

Lascañas said he was contacted by Duterte through his right-hand aide to kill Jun Pala, a Davao journalist widely known for his work on exposing corruption of local politicians. Duterte also ordered and paid him and other members of a so-called liquidation squad to kill criminals and opponents, including a kidnapping suspect and his entire family. The group also commissioned the services of so-called rebel returnees from the New People's Army. Lascañas said that President Rodrigo Duterte did not only order them to kill targets of the "Davao Death Squad" but also promised protection from lawsuits.

But Duterte has been telling us that he has killed people. So why are we now shocked? I mean how often must he say so for us to understand that he actually did. We knew that then. I don't know about those 16M who voted for him. Which is worse? If you know he's a murderer but you still voted for him, or you really didn't know but now you have to justify why you voted for him?

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA) stayed for 9 years without being overthrown despite of so many corruption scandals that hounded her and she was so damn unpopular. I think the people are already tired of politics that doesn't include them after. Will it be six years of this kind of political atmosphere for the country? I believe the truth has a way of coming out on top. Even the most ardent and blind supporters cannot ignore truth staring on their faces. Something has to give... in due time. In fact, I doubt the 16M voters has held up to that number until now. I still hope though that the people will see Duterte for what he really is, a FAKE.

Unfortunately, politics cannot be explained or predicted by science. It's usually a confluence of events that leads to a tipping point... and then, boom. One thing is sure - divine providence always define the perfect timing. When God moves in mysteriously, nothing is impossible ....Let's pray that this killings, corruptions and lawlessness stop .

I believe we're seeing the beginning of Duts' unraveling. There is just so much that's wrong with this administration that i doubt it will last the 6 years. Truth and righteousness always prevail in the end." - compiled thoughts of netizens

"Together with them, (Edgar Matobato and Lascaranas), whose detailed testimonies now confirm, we cannot think of any reason - not money, not vendetta, not inducements of any kind - that would make the risk to their lives worth it, except at long last a desire to be at peace with their conscience. As these witnesses seek redemption, so too should all Filipinos of goodwill pause, reflect, and judge on the crimes committed - and in whose name they were done. The time is past when our countrymen can avert their eyes from these damning facts."

"It is high time for us to unite, EVIL MEN SUCCEED WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING. shall we allow evil to triumph and rule this nation. I for one will stood for the truth because it will withstand any lies." - John Balucas

"Kung takot kang mamatay, o takot kang pumatay, hindi ka pwedeng mag-presidente." - Rodrigo Duterte

Importance of Air Transport Industry to Tourism and Economic Growth

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It is no coincidence that there is “cross-country empirical evidence of the mutually reinforcing relationship between a high level of economic development and a well-established air transport industry, resulting in improvements in living standards.” - Julie Perovic The Economic Benefits of Aviation and Performance in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index International Air Transport Association (IATA) 2013

The vision is to become the “must experience” destination in Asia. In order to accomplish that, our goal is to develop a highly competitive and environmentally and socially responsible tourism that delivers more widely distributed income and employment opportunities.

This could be attained if we strengthen our "gateways" or access to our country, and that would highly depend on how convenient our airports are.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has remained the country’s largest gateway, followed by MCIA, and with Kalibo & Clark having the 3rd and 4th largest gateways with an increasingly large share percentage wise. Kalibo still has the biggest share of chartered flights and the full optimization of Caticlan will be a game-changer too. The growth of Davao, Iloilo and Puerto Princesa will depend on airport infrastructure and intensified markets to spur demand.

Sadly, the Philippine air transport industry is not able to capitalize on the growth of the Philippine economy, with the value for the Philippines scoring only 1.5 in air transport benefits from economic growth in 2015. This is the Sensitivity of Air Passenger Traffic Growth to GDP Growth Benchmarks.

Brillante Mendoza Film Festival at SM Fairvew

Wazzup Pilipinas!

By now everyone significant in the movie industry knows who Independent Film (Indie) director Brillante Mendoza is, and how his films has changed the viewpoint of many people regarding what we all know as "Indie" films.

Indie Films are those that are financially challenged in terms of production but are mostly intellectually-inclined and geared towards higher reasoning and appreciation of the arts - specifically in movie-making.

When before the stars or actors of the Indie films are mostly unknown, popular stars could now be also seen gracing the films as either main star or cameo roles.

It was even evident from the previous Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2016) how Indie films made it to the line-up of much-awaited but controversial Christmas season film festival led by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on December 25, 2016 which was dubbed as a #Reelvolution where the usual movies from seasoned comedians didn't made it through the selection of the board.

This must be the time when Indie films are thoroughly recognized as quality films eventhough it lacks the monetary backing of a big time producer.
