Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: The Window

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Julius’s ghost talked to Andrew that night and told him how he was and gave him a talk about life and sacrifice. The next morning, Andrew asked the nurse to open the window and asked her to tell him what was happening outside. The nurse said there was nothing outside but the ruins of an old school. Andrew just smiled."
Sacrifice is sometimes the “best escape route” to problems. If you can’t let go of something, let yourself go. Nothing is permanent in this world, so it means that in time, everything will fade away.

We can see in this story that the individual (pertaining to our character named Julius) decided for himself. He sacrificed himself for the betterment of others and to give importance to life. As an individual, he elaborated his core values of being a defeated person and he gave his own light to shine in others’ darkness. He is determined by his own free will and he had a choice for himself. His individuality transcends towards the bounds of dependency which can be found in the part where he was called for surgery. He did not hesitate and he knew he made a good choice for himself.

As for Andrew, our other character, he served as a contrast for Julius. He was dependent. He was in his darkness and only receives the light from somebody. His uncapability for independence was flourishing throughout the story, so as to enhance Julius’s character (irregardless of his age).

Below is our original short story for the day.

Duman Duman! Get Some Before It’s All Gone This December at Sugarleaf Makati

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Imagine a variety of grain that is planted only in a couple of weeks in select rice paddies in only a couple towns in Pampanga then harvested as the cool breeze of the holiday months sweep the rice fields. Processing this grain is a colourful undertaking in itself–from harvesting in early dawn, to winnowing, toasting and pounding to remove the chaff. For every hectare planted with this special variety yields a mere 4.5 cavans of grain while a harvest of the normal variety of rice yields up to 300 cavans.

Due to the limited harvest quantity, which was fortunately spared by the typhoons that hit Central Luzon this year, the demand for duman is much greater than the supply. However, despite its rather steep price, those who’ve enjoyed it vouch that it is worth every grain. It may be consumed by itself, rather like breakfast cereal, or taken with steaming gatas damulag (carabao milk) or tsokolate de batirol (frothy native chocolate).

Sugarleaf Makati shares this prized delicacy in limited quantities to residents of the metropolis. Together with La Moderna’s artisan bakery products as well as other carefully selected healthyummy food and non-food products.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In his second solo show and comeback exhibition, Of Gods and Patriots, artist Raymond Katawaki Go delves into the question of power and its immanent contradictions by projecting ancient and contemporary images, of the religious and the secular in an attempt to call and respond to myth and reality. These arresting images turn into a social introspection to review the historical past and institutional ideas that are so intrinsic to intervention and inquiry but with a pulse on the present based on the artist’s understanding and impressions of these realities.

After years of hiatus, Kawataki Go comebacks with a major show at Cevio that re-registers his remarkable artistic skills and passion for art and instigation of critical thoughts.

Manhattan Love Story: Sony Channel’s Charming New Romantic Comedy Will Have You Smitten!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Manhattan Love Story is a new romantic comedy based on this simple premise: The only way to maintain relationships—with lovers, spouses, family, co-workers, or friends—is to keep most of our thoughts to ourselves. Dana (Analeigh Tipton, Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Peter (Jake McDorman, Shameless) travel through the complicated terrain of modern-day relationship in this new romantic comedy.

The show has an extra dimension: the audience will hear Dana and Peter’s inner thoughts, highlighting the differences of men and women in dating and find out what they are really thinking when they say something.

Dana is from Atlanta and moves to New York to chase her dreams. When she gets a job, her colleagues started losing theirs and put the blame on her. She keeps a naive and innocent disposition despite these setbacks in high hopes that her colleagues will once again like her. She is determined to succeed in the Big Apple in both career and love.

Peter, on the other hand, is a cynical New Yorker who works for his dad at the family’s business. He has dated so many women to the point that he does not remember their names when he sees them on the street.

Immaculately Funny New Show ‘Jane the Virgin’ Premieres on Sony Channel

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Loosely adapted from a Venezuelan telenovela of the same name, Jane the Virgin is a delightful new dramedy on Sony Channel.

Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) has been convinced of two life truths owing it all to her overbearing grandmother Alba – first, that telenovelas are the highest form of entertainment; and second, that all women must protect their virginity at all costs. Now at 23, she is a driven young woman studying to become a teacher and a writer while supporting herself with a job at a new hotel in Miami.

All the years of watching telenovelas with her mother Xiomara (known as “Xo”) and her devout grandmother gave Jane a slightly unrealistic view of love – Her sexy, young-at-heart mom Xo was an unwed mother at 16 who continues to live her life as a performer at local clubs while looking for a new man. Her grandmother Alba on the other hand is a devout and prayerful lady with religion at the center of her life. Both women share a special place in Jane’s life and continue to root for her as an ambitious and compassionate woman despite their conflicting influences on Jane.

All of Jane’s meticulous life plans are turned upside down during her life-changing routine check up when she is accidentally artificially inseminated with a specimen meant for the patient in the next room. Unbeknownst to her, the specimen belongs to Rafael (Justin Baldoni), a reformed playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but also a former summer crush of hers.
