Philippine Businesses Gear Up to Serve New Generation of Information Hungry Consumers

Wazzup Pilipinas!

EMC Corporation is a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service. Fundamental to this transformation is cloud computing. Through innovative products and services, EMC accelerates the journey to cloud computing, helping IT departments to store, manage, protect and analyze their most valuable asset — information — in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way.

The company recently released the findings of a survey that asked IT decision makers in the Philippines, specifically 235 responses coming from 175 companies, for their perspective on IT’s role as an enabler of business change during the shift towards the mega trends of cloud, mobile, social and Big Data.

At a media briefing held at the Makati Shangri-La by EMC Corporation Philippines Country Manager Ronnie Latinazo and EMC Corporation Asia Pacific and Japan Vice President David Wirt, the members of the media got the opportunity to hear out the results of the survey and what they reveal specifically for the country.

Collected during a non-mandatory questionnaire after completion of registration for the EMC Forum event held in Manila, Philippines, this research polled a total of 235 business and IT management and executives, technical architects, data scientists and storage/infrastructure managers from a range of Filipino businesses.

Persia Grill: Iranian Comfort Food That Filipinos Would Love

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It would be safe to say that curiosity was what really drove us to try Persian cuisine this time. My blogger friends and I have tried so many kinds of dishes inspired from many different countries and their traditional cuisines, many of which were modified through a fusion of cultures and family heritage recipes.

First impressions for Iranian or Persian cuisine was all herbs and spices, and it may be so true. But for me that's their strength since it makes up for a more flavorful dining experience. You'll know you're eating Persian when you taste a distinctive sourness in the dishes and you see the most popular ingredients are wheat, lamb, poultry and yoghurt.Wheat is their staple food,as we are to rice. However, rice dishes are also among the true specialities of the region. Kababs also form part of the traditional cuisine.

Half-Filipino and Half-Iranian Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate Kian Kazemi was all excited to have us dine at the Kapitolyo, Pasig branch of Persia Grill. This branch is located at the ground floor of Ace water Spa and Hotel. Kian personally welcomed us at his restaurant so we could experience a very rare treat since many of us have not tried Persian food yet except for one who grew up somewhere in the Middle East.

As per their website, "The Kazemi family's deep rooted heritage and culture created exquisite, authentic & distinct Persian dishes that started from family traditions of cooking a feast at home & inviting friends & family over to share the delicious food and capturing lasting memories. Today they share their vision and love for exceptional food with the world through the doors of Persia Grill. You are not only eating great food, your having a taste of history."

Reading it made me realize this will be a great dining experience, and is so happy I now have the opportunity to go Persian with my friends.

Manila-Born Photographer Wins Epson International 2014 Pano Awards

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Earlier this year, global digital imaging leader Epson invited professional and amateur photographers around the world to enter The Epson International Pano Awards (www.thepanoawards.com) and compete for approximately $40,000 in cash and prizes.

This year, the competition received 3,971 entries from 870 photographers in 54 countries. The fifth Epson International Pano Awards is dedicated to the art of panoramic photography.

The overall winner of the 2014 Open competition is Manila-born Dennis Ramos from the USA. His winning image is also first in the Open – Built Environment category.

Dennis said, “It was a beautiful cloudless day with some patches of rolling fog over the bridge. My friend and I decided to go fishing that mid-afternoon. I found out that my reel wasn't working so I grabbed my camera gear instead. I took a lot of shots around including this long exposure panoramic shot of the bridge. It took me a lot of time waiting and shooting in between the fog to get a good exposure. While waiting during long exposure times, I wished I had my fishing rod as well.”

RC Jamaican Patties: A Few Reasons Why You Need to Try It Out

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Jamaican patties are originally found in the Caribbean islands, specifically in Jamaica, as the name implies. The pastry may contain various fillings, like ground beef, and spices like curry or chili, baked inside a flaky shell, often tinted golden yellow with an egg yolk mixture or turmeric. We Filipinos refer to it as "empanada" of which we also have our own version among which is the more popular Ilocos type of cooking.

My son and I visited this small food stall named RC Jamaican Patties located at the top floor of Market Market in Bonifacio Global City. RC stands for Royal Caribbean and have several outlets or kiosks all over the country including Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo. It was very near the cinemas so I imagine people flocking to this place to buy it as an alternative for the common popcorn. It's either that or the place will be a good choice to drop by after watching the movie.
The place was quite small but good enough since I think it was the only one at that floor that offers their customers a more comfy seating. The rest of the food outlets there were just kiosks and hole-in-the-walls.

From their menu, it can be seen that they have a total of 8 flavors (5 Classics and 3 Premiums)to choose from:

For eight months, investigators still has not conquered more evidences regarding the crime. Cooper is considered the prime suspect due to his unexpected disappearance with his wife. Strange things make us curious. Challenges make it intriguing but what I know is that I can’t be lost in all of that. This odd case I’m handling is simply a matter of time and I need to search and be patient. I can’t be pressured, I can’t be intimidated. My team sees me as the head of their game; hence, I should play that role.

“I can do this for hours” I thought “just stare and then watch her over”.

The only one left after the tragic event of her family. The only hope for my break, the one who holds the guidelines for resolution.

Suddenly, she wakes up and opens her eyes.

Orpheus and Eurydice: Love Story Between a Demigod and a Wood Nymph

Wazzup Pilipinas!

As per Wikipedia, a myth is a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. According to the internet, greek mythology is the body of myths and teachings that belong to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. One example of greek mythology, is the story of “Orpheus and Eurydice”

Orpheus and Eurydice” is a story of a demigod who is best known as the greatest musician who fell in love with a wood nymph named Eurydice. But there is man named Aristeus who became a trouble to the major characters. Eurydice was bitten by a serpent. The poison of the sting killed her and she descended to Hades immediately.

Orpheus was so sad about the loss of his love that he composed music to express the terrible emptiness which pervaded his every breath and movement. He was so desperate and found so little else meaningful, that he decided to address Hades.

As the overseer of the underworld, Hades heart had to be hard as steel, and so it was. Many approached Hades to beg for loved ones back and as many times were refused. But Orpheus' music was so sweet and so moving that it softened the steel hearted heart of Hades himself. Hades gave permission to Orpheus to bring Eurydice back to the surface of the earth to enjoy the light of day.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Two Sides of Pride

Wazzup Pilipinas!

This story is filled with references to my own life. Like the narrator, I have excelled in academics during my grade school days, I never failed to get in the top ten in a class of thirty students but this streak came to a screeching halt at high school. The first year was torture for me, I barely got through because of my inability to keep up with the pace of the school. I went from one of the top students to one who barely passed his class. Like in the story, the first year was a wake-up call for me to step up my game.

“ I am not the nicest guy in the world, I know that I am not as smart as I would like to be nor am I as strong either. You told me that I can be who I want to be with the right motivation.”

Last but not the least, the main idea of the story is one of the things in my life that I have yet to finish. I am a quiet but prideful person so I wanted this theme to fit in my story. My mouth betrays my mind, I say that I don’t care if I fail, I don’t care if I get hurt but in reality I would cry if it happened and cry again if I got hurt. I put up a strong front but my heart might as well be in my sleeve. My pride as a person to me and my pride as a person to others often conflict in quiet combat and I hate it. The last scene of the story is my saving grace, that no matter what happens that small rope that is hidden in a person I know will be my only hope in getting back up from this fight. My hope lies on that person’s words they will give me if I were ever on the brink of defeat.

And the reason I wrote this analysis in first person is a step in winning this conflict. I will refer to myself as me rather than refer to myself as another person.
This quote is my own, this is my own belief. This is what I think will lead people to a successful path but it is also a belief I can never follow for I lack the main ingredient, motivation. The narrator is someone whom I want and partly fear to be in the future. I want to be successful but I am scared that I will never be content with my success hence the predicament he is in right now.

Below is our short story for the day.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Maybe

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"You know what Summer, you've changed a lot." If I got a dollar for every time I hear those words, I'd probably be swimming in money right now.

"You're not like that before, what happened to you?" asked my friend.

"Weren't you informed? Change is inevitable." I answered laughing. Honestly, I'm tired of answering their questions questions which I'm pretty sure they know the answers.

"BUT we miss you," I stopped and glanced at her, "We miss your crazy antics, your irritating laugh, and your everything― everything you were before. When will "our" Summer come back?"

"Girls, cheer up! It's still me, it's not like I grew another pair of eyes. Besides, you'll get used to it."

If it weren't for you, things would have not turned out like this. If you didn't leave me, maybe things would still be the same. I would still be the same old Summer.
