School of Rock USA Opens First School in Asia and it is in the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

With more than a decade of successful experience teaching music, School of Rock has been teaching kids to rock on stage and in life. It’s the USA’s leader in kid’s music education from age 7 to 18. Including adults. We believe the best way to learn music is to perform music. Students learn from professional musicians that take them from the lesson room to the stage, develop both their confidence and musicianship through weekly private lessons and group rehearsals with the ultimate goal of performing live in front of real crowds.

School of Rock is an ingenious concept that gets kids and adults rocking out to the classics and on stage performing with their peers. Music programs are designed to create a supportive environment where music students of all skill levels are comfortable yet challenged at every turn. In addition to individual private music instruction on guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and/or drums, students also learn how to jam with their peers in a weekly practice session. The team dynamic creates a supportive and motivating environment where kids feel inspired to excel.

All School of Rock programs are performance-based and emphasize the message that music is not just about playing an instrument; it’s about teamwork, building confidence, and creating leaders.

DOTC Awards LRT-1 Cavex PPP; Starts Bid for LRT-2 O&M

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) awarded its biggest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project so far, the P 65-Billion Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension (Cavex) Project, to the Light Rail Manila Consortium (LRMC) yesterday, 12 September 2014.

“We are pleased to push the project forward for the sake of the riding public, especially those who live in the southern part of Metro Manila such as Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa, as well as Cavite. This project will level the playing field for them, giving them convenient access to employment and educational opportunities in the metropolis,” said DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.

LRMC now has twenty (20) days to comply with post-award requirements, including the payment of 10% of its P 9.35-Billion premium bid amount, after which the Concession Agreement may be executed by the parties.

The award is subject to the final decision of the Supreme Court (SC) with respect to the Common Station project, which will connect LRT-1, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and MRT-7 at the EDSA-North Avenue area.

BPI Opens Search for Ibang Klaseng Anak Expats

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There are regular students and there are exemplary students. And there are students who excel despite living away from their parents who work overseas. These are the OFW children who braved against distance and dependence and become Ibang Klaseng Anak Expats.

Ikaw, ibang Klase ka ba? This is the challenge posed by Bank of the Philippine Islands to Anak Expats nationwide as it launches the 2014 Search for the Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children. Now on its 8th year, the Search continues to be one of the most prestigious awards given to children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) or “Anak Expats” who excelled in the academic and non-academic fields.

“We recognize the significant roles and sacrifices of our OFWs. We extend this recognition to their families as we continue to honor their children who excel in their studies despite being distant from their parents. Our Anak Expats are our OFWs source of strength and inspiration. Truly, our Anak Expats have been Ibang Klase and deserved to be honoured,” says BPI Executive Vice President Natividad N. Alejo.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Come With Me

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I consider myself as a coward because I’m always terrified of little and big things. Little things include cockroaches, spiders, and the likes, while big things include the death of someone special to me. When my pet cat died, I cried for days because of the fact that my cat will never return and be in my arms again.

In the story the narrator cannot accept the fact that she is scared of the woman that kept appearing at her window. She also cannot accept the fact that of all people in this world, why her? On the last part of the story the narrator had decided she had enough and killed the woman that kept appearing at her window.

On the first part of the story the conscience acted upon the narrator when she cannot tell her friends and father about the woman that kept appearing at her window. But on the last part of the story the conscience became inferior while the ego and anger ruled.

Please read on and enjoy the short story.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: The Mystery of Mr. Dawn

Wazzup Pilipinas!

John Joseph Cole is a man back from World War I and renting a house in West bank of Long Island. His cousin Victoria and her wealthy husband William lives across the bay in fancier East bank. Stewart Dawn, John Joseph’s next door neighbor, is a wealthy newcomer who throws large parties weekly.

John became good friends with Stewart. John brought Victoria and Stewart back together by inviting Victoria to tea. However, Stewart wanted Victoria which he couldn’t have because she is married to William. William wanted to have both his wife and his other woman without Victoria knowing about it. William and Stewart goes on a showdown to determine who gets to control Victoria.

The story below shows the mysteries of love. It showed that love may last for a very long time on the part where Stewart still loved Victoria after a 6 year time period. It also showed that love may seem fake but it is real, on the part where Victoria chose William instead of Stewart.
The story teaches us to learn to move on. Don’t focus on a girl who doesn’t love you. When Victoria cut in when Stewart’s about to talk he should have known that she doesn’t love him anymore.

Pulso ng Pilipinas: Siksik, Liglig at Umaapaw Ngunit Masikip, Madungis at Umaalingasaw

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Ocean Park Hong Kong Launches Spook-tastic Halloween Fest at a Trade Cum Media Luncheon

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I couldn't help but wonder if I lost track of time or was accidentally transported by a time machine when I got to the event held last September 11, 2014 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

This was because I saw lots of people at the venue wearing Halloween-inspired head gears. You know, the familiar witches hat, icky spiders, scarecrow hats decorated with lizards and other crawlers, and even pumpkins with etched faces. There were also a few men and women wearing Halloween fabulous costumes. They were obviously foreigners because of their facial features even with those make-up on.

I thought I was attending a press launch of Ocean Park Hong Kong at the hotel but I got confirmation only when somebody called out my name. Yes! The ladies from the PR agency probably saw me seemingly lost and confused that they called out to me and thanked me for being always early at their events.

After asking me to register, the ladies then gave me a press kit along with the long hashtag of #OceanParkHKHalloweenFest, told me to drop a business card for the raffle, and later asked me to pick a head gear for my own. I chose the purple witch hat.

MRT Problems Not Stopping Anytime Soon

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Senator Grace Poe tried to ride the MRT 3 ahead of the Senate MRT Probing. She was praised by commuter group TREN (Train Riders Network) for riding from North Avenue to Taft Avenue station and not bringing any bodyguards with her. She also had the courage to line up for 40 minutes during rush hour and took note of the problems of the train.

She said that there should be MRT buses for people who get stuck because of problems with the train. She also said that the public announcement system is hardly being heard so commuters won’t know when to get off or if it is nearly time for them to get off.

Another good observation she made is that the escalator leading to the station is always broken and some ticketing machines always seem to malfunction since I always ride the North Avenue station myself.

She made really good observations and she did the MRT experience unlike DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya who rode the MRT himself but on 1 PM which was not rush hour. Not only that but he also rode the first couch meant for women and elderly people. I guess the first couch is also meant for high ranking government officials now.

Epson Encourages Projector Customers To Give Feedback

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Owners of Epson’s 3LCD projectors have a chance to win an Epson LW-900 label printer just by giving feedback to the digital imaging leader.

“For 13 consecutive years, Epson has been the No.1 projector brand in the whole world. This remarkable achievement was made possible because we listen to our customers, understand their requirements, and then create a product that exceeds their expectations,” said Donna V. Ferro, Head of Marcom & PR of Epson Philippines.

“It is a source of great pride for us that even here in the Philippines, Epson is now the No.1 projector brand. As a technology company that believes in continuous improvement and innovation, we are taking this opportunity to invite all Epson projector owners to give us their feedback. All our customers need to do is go to our website (www.epson.com.ph/reviewprojector), tell us what they think about their Epson projector, and provide their details for a chance to win an Epson label printer,” added Ferro.

Users of Epson projectors can go to the company’s website, give a rating for the projector they use, and share their experience with the product. Five participants will be chosen at random (“Sweepstakes”) as winners, and each winner will receive an Epson LW-900 Labelworks printer.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: The Deferred Fate of the Star-Crossed

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We should not decide when we are influenced by anger or hatred because we might come up with a hasty decision that will make the current situation worse.

It is advised that we think first because all the decisions we made/are about to make have consequences. We should always consider what is the right thing to do.

All people can make a mistake which we should understand. But always remember that a mistake in a certain matter is done only once, if it exceeds it is called a choice.

We should learn to listen before complaining. In this way, we can understand them easily because actions and mistakes are done with reason.

We should be open-minded because it is a key to have harmonious relationship

The themes of the story below are forgiveness and realization. Forgiveness is shown when our character accepted an apology. Realization is evident in the last part of the story when our character regrets the decision she made that cost someone’s life in return.

Theft at CCP Parking Lot, Audie Gemora Shares Horrible Experience

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“I really want to rally everyone to press CCP to improve its parking areas. My gosh, wala na ngang ilaw, wala pang gwardya. May parking fee pa! I don't even mind paying higher parking fees but naman reinvest the money into REAL security. The thieves are mostly under 18 years old! If they keep getting away with petty crimes dahil sa kapabayaan ng CCP, they will grow bolder and ang sunod nito hold up, rape or kidnapping na. Changes have to happen there.” – Audie Gemora

I am reposting this terrible incident experienced by Audie Gemora, one of our popular theater and mainstream actors. This is to open the eyes of the people that vandalism and theft is so rampant even with the youth, especially the out-of-school, because of the inexcusable lethargy in this day and age that the Philippines is in poverty. If there are the big-time criminals with their well-financed syndicate, there are also the squatters loitering the streets looking for their next victim to prey on.

I am sure that there are several instances where these low-lifes have been involved. They obviously resorted to a life of crime due to poverty but we all know that a quick buck may be able to buy them a few good meals for a few days, but it is not enough to save their souls from the fires of hell.

There are also several bad business services with their inept securities which could have been addressed by a good government that is able to strictly implement the laws and provide safety to its citizens. When will everyone wake up to insist on having a decently progressive country with responsible leaders and citizens?

Someone please call the attention of Mayor Joseph Estrada. If that dark area belongs to jurisdiction of Manila, then they should put up solar lights in the area. Policemen should round up those kids and give them to DSWD which should provide a more efficient process to dissuade these kids from a life of crime.

There should also be something done to teh process of reporting a crime and persecuting the criminals. Many of us would no longer try to pursue a complaint due to the amount of stress and financial burden it will give us because of the many intricacies that makes it difficult for an ordinary citizen to get justice from a system that only favors the affluent and well-connected.

Please read on and hopefully do something for the benefit of those that may become future victims.
