Mikey Bustos Is Now a Semi-Regular Mainstay at Bubble Gang

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It was just the other day when we shared the news here in our blog that Mikey Bustos is now a co-host DJ at Magic 89.9 FM Radio station. Now Mikey is happy to announce that he is now also a semi-regular mainstay of the very popular comedy gag show Bubble Gang.

Bubble Gang has always been my all-time favorite comedy gag show on television and having Mikey on it will be another great reason why everyone will surely be laughing out loud every Friday night. It is the longest-running Philippine comedy gag show airing on the Philippines GMA Network since October 20, 1995. The show shot up to popularity for their parodies of television commercials, politicians and current events. The show also airs internationally via GMA Pinoy TV, while re-runs are aired via Fox Filipino.

With Mikey Bustos joining popular comedians Michael V, Moymoy Palaboy and the rest of the equally humorous Bubble Gang cast, Bubble Gang is going to be extremely hilarious.

Entrepreneurs 101: Taking Advantage of Tourism Opportunities By Opening a Souvenir Shop

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Countless tourists flock to the Philippines every now and then to explore and experience what the nation has to offer. According to recent tourism statistics, the Philippines has successfully garnered more tourists than what is expected all throughout the first half of the year. This just means that our country has been doing pretty good in this sector. But what does this imply to the commerce industry?

Tourism is nonetheless a brilliant opportunity for money-making. If you come to think of it, foreigners—and even our fellow Filipino globetrotters—consider travelling as an avenue for trying out new things. They're obviously not only here to enjoy a day basking in our tropical sun. What they're looking for is the Filipino experience—the famous delicacies, sumptuous native dishes, unique activities, and other fun-filled Filipino stuff.

With such premise, we are able to conclude that tourism and business can go side-by-side. As of now, you are probably thinking of ways how you can take advantage of such lucrative opportunity. By all means, opening your own souvenir shop may be the best bet. This type of business—if managed and marketed properly—could prove to reap substantially good profits in the long run.

But how do you start?

Nancy Binay and the Nazareno

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm seeing a lot of this tweets supposedly from a Nancy Binay fake account making jokes about herself and linking it with the Nazareno theme depicting Nancy Binay as being confused by people for the Black Nazarene.

I get it. It's because the color of her skin is black like that of the Nazareno? Yeah!

The Binay's always get that kind of joke pertaining to their dark complexion, as if majority of the pure Filipinos are not dark in skin color. Well, maybe some of us are "brown monkeys" but a lot of us really appreciate the more light-colored skin influenced by our foreign neighbors.

Poor Binays being joked around all over the Internet with reference to their unfortunate Filipino skin color, and the rest of the Fil-Ams being praised and idolized for being so "Westernly" attractive.

Breakfast Magazine Features Ross Del Rosario of Wazzup Pilipinas

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's finally out! Breakfast Magazine's year ender and starter (December - January 2014) issue!

Ross Del Rosario, founder of Wazzup Pilipinas - an online community blog awarded as one of the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs of 2013 and Most Outstanding Filipino Community Blog of 2013, is among those featured as guest writer for the said issue. Ross writes about the holiday feast offered by Diamond Hotel Philippines in an article entitled "Diamond Hotel's Delectable Christmas Feast: Delightful Dishes for a Festive December".
"I still remember the photo shoot we did on site with the help of by photographer Justin De Jesus, and the editors of Breakfast magazine, where we captured on film the remarkable food creations of the hotel. This was a few months before the actual release of the article. I imagined it takes a lot more dedication coming out with a magazine. Unlike blogs, a magazine and its feature articles takes a considerable amount of time to prepare with regards to writing the actual story, proofreading, processing the photos, and everything else that, honestly,  I am not really aware of."

Dear Macaroni How's Spaghetti Sincerely Yours Daddy and Mommy

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipinos are truly creative....even in naming their children.

Last December, when the University of the Philippines released their UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) results, we saw one name that was quite odd and thought it was some sort of clerical error. Later we found out that it was confirmed correct as per Facebook post of Sincerely Yours 98 herself.

Yes! You've read it right! Sincerely Yours 98 it is! Truly for short!

Sincerely Yours 98 Pascual or Sincerely Pascual on her Facebook page is actually the third among three siblings with very unusual names given to them by their parents. Their father was the one responsible in giving the "yummy" food names to them composed of his kuya names Macaroni 85 and her ate Spaghetti 88.

The Order of Life: Get a Job; Get a Life; Have a Family; Get Married?! Wait, What?!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We all know how the saying goes right? ‘Magasawa ka kapag may trabaho ka na!’ or simply put, get a job then get married. But in reality, this isn’t the exact case.

Here in the Philippines, we all know for a fact that the numbers of jobless people are far greater than those with proper jobs who earn enough for their families. Now, let’s start with that thought; A large number of jobless people are married and have a lot of kids. Just the thought of providing for a large family with around P500 worth of everyday budget isn’t enough. That alone could say that we should get a career first, or get a decent paying job, before ever thinking of marriage. A blunter way of saying it is ‘Make yourself useful and productive before claiming your girlfriend/boyfriend in the altar’. Kinda harsh in my opinion, but that’s how some would put it. Of course, there are even more reasons to this.

Let’s look at a futuristic sense, shall we?

Anne Curtis Smith is the Newest Dyesebel of ABS-CBN

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Anne Curtis Smith is Dyesebel, along with leading men Sam Milby and Gerald Anderson to star in ABS-CBN's newest "fantaserye" television series.

Dyesebel is the dream role of Anne since she was a child. She was very grateful that she was chosen by ABS-CBN inspite of the controversy she was involved in last 2013 where the famous line "I can buy you, your friend and this club". Now it seems it will be more like ""I can buy Ursula, her friends and this kingdom"

Biboy Arboleda said that on the process of choosing Dyesebel, ABS-CBN ran a marketing survey among different platforms including social media and Anne topped the list. Thus she was finally given the role of the Philippines' most popular mermaid character.

From Dyosa to Sirena, Anne as Dyesebel this 2014 will be an interesting watch on TV.

Feast of the Black Nazarene: Devotees Sacrifice in Exchange of Favors?

Wazzup Pilipinas!
“The Black Nazarene is an ironic pornographic celebration of violence—the overt violence of the past and the more subtle violence of the present.....The familiarity of the Jesus story has anesthetized us from what is at the heart of the ritual. Millions of men, women, and children are parading around with a wooden statue of a bloodied victim of torture, capital punishment, and God-sanctioned human sacrifice. The Black Nazarene is an ironic pornographic celebration of violence—the overt violence of the past and the more subtle violence of the present.” - Filipino Freethinkers.org
January 9, the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene once again drew millions of devotees as expected. It is also expected that around 60,000 devotees are to attend the procession in Cagayan De Oro City. The  statue is over 400 years old and has survived fires, earthquakes, and the devastation of the 2nd World War. It is paraded around the city until its way back to the Basilica in what is known as the Traslacion.

The Nazarene devotion is the most successful example of what the church wants to accomplish. The dream that drew the founders of the Church of the Nazarene together is still the same dream that guides it today. Some may vehemently resent the eventual circumstances just to meet the objectives, but a great number probably just want to test and follow their faith blindly. A sacrifice in exchange of favors.
