Dulaang UP Presents Teatro Porvenir : Ang Kasaysayan ni Andres Bonifacio at Iba Pa sa Entablado

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In celebration of Andres Bonifacio’s sesquicentennial, Dulaang UP stages Teatro Porvenir, Ang Katangi-tanging Kasaysayan ni Andres Bonifacio, Macario Sakay at Aurelio Tolentino sa Entablado, a Palanca-winning play written by Tim Dacanay.

Teatro Porvenir is a re-imagining of the history of the Katipunan through an amalgamation of myth and literature, history and religion. The play highlights Bonifacio as artist- a facet of this valiant revolutionary that remains largely unknown to most people.

It all starts with a struggling moro-moro troupe in Tondo, Teatro Porvenir (Theater of Tomorrow). Its members, Aurelio Tolentino, Emilio Jacinto, Macario Sakay and the brothers Ciriaco, Procopio and Andres Bonifacio, try to introduce reforms in the komedya and senakulo.

Born into a time of foment, their art-making is informed by the subversive works of Jose Rizal and Marcelo del Pilar. The moro-moro players ultimately become members of the supreme council of the Katipunan and play out their vital roles in Philippine history.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Words are not enough to describe the feelings that ran out all over the place when Animo! La Salle nipped UST in overtime to bag the UAAP crown...Lol!

When we saw the Teng Brothers (Jeron and Jeric) congratulating each other after the game, it was a sight to behold and I can't really stop myself from shedding a tear.  Who was I rooting for? You can make a wild guess, but the spirit was actually for the entire game and for both teams who gave their best and showed everyone out there that we are definitely the best! The epic battle between the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers and De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers.

De La Salle University denied University of Santo Tomas’ shot at history as it reclaimed its basketball glory last Saturday night, October 12, at the UAAP Season 76 Finals held at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Teng led the Green Archers in foiling the Tigers’ bid to become the first fourth ranked team to win the championship and bested his older brother Jeric, had 25 points -12 in the pivotal fourth quarter - along with eight rebounds and six assists. He had 15 points in La Salle’s 72-73 game one defeat, then bounced back with 19 points in their second game’s win.

DOE Drafts Comprehensive Energy Plan

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Energy- Energy Policy and Planning Bureau (DOE-EPPB) is conducting a series of sectoral campaigns in line with the agency’s mandate to formulate a comprehensive energy plan.

The DOE-EPPB is finalizing the Philippine Energy Plan 2016 to 2030 as the energy sector’s contribution to the Ambisyon Natin 2040 (Executive Order 5), which lays down the foundation for inclusive growth and a high-trust society.

According to Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, the DOE is currently formulating a 15-year energy plan and even a plan until 2040 that entails a series of studies factoring in gross domestic product (GDP) and population growth, among others.

According to DOE-EPPB, these sectoral roadmaps are a result of the review exercises done by the Department on the effectiveness of the current agenda and the identification of implementation gaps in the program. Each of the roadmaps is complemented by programs of action which are broken down into short, medium, and long-term targets guided by its overall objectives by 2030.

Cusi said, “The PEP formulation paved the way for the development of sectoral energy roadmaps that are critical to ensure energy security and increased energy access. We have conducted a series of consultations with various stakeholders – local government units, electric cooperatives, non-government organizations, civil society organizations (CSOs), academe, RE developers, oil industry players, generation companies, chamber of commerce and industries, financial institutions and development partners – to present the Plan and generate inputs for its enhancement."

The DOE brought the Plan to the following cities:

1) Cagayan de Oro (11 October)
2) Legaspi (13 October)
3) Iloilo (18 October))
4) Davao City (25 October)
5) Cebu City (28 October)
6) Bonifacio Global City (04 November).

The DOE-EPPB collated issues raised in the plenary discussion during the consultations held in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Legaspi, Iloilo and Davao, which are initiatives on low carbon future (lowering of greenhouse gas emissions), oil deregulation, electricity pricing, rural electrification, renewable energy development and its policy mechanisms, measures on energy efficiency and conservation, Energy Regulations 1-94 and other local energy concerns.

“Planning our country’s energy roadmap safeguards our Filipino consumers and our industry participants from any undesirable energy scenarios in the future. It is our job to protect them,” Cusi explained.

"Once the plan is finished, it will greatly contribute to the expansion of the country’s economic prospects through the provision of employment opportunities and generation of investments that will subsequently provide all Filipinos a life envisioned to be Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag,” Cusi concluded.

Transformative Power of Art Part III : Moving the Soul with Color

Wazzup Pilipinas!
“Color arises through the deeds and sufferings of the Light.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
In this third module of The Transformative Power of Art visual arts training course in the Philippines, artist, educator and art therapist Iris Sullivan will work with Goethe's Theory of Color and Liane Collot d’ Herbois' approach to Light, Darkness and Color.

This course offers participants the opportunity to experience, through sequential colored exercises, the journey of the human soul into incarnation through light and dark, or as Goethe said, through suffering and deeds.

Collot's path to art requires discipline in listening to color and not to oneself in the first steps.

This approach is to enliven the capacity to become a vessel for the creative and healing powers that move through color and art.

The Producers : A Satirical Comedy for the Theater Industry

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Producers is about two wily theatrical producers who cook up a scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. The humor of the show draws on ridiculous accents, homosexual stereotypes, and Nazis, along with many show business in-jokes. It is a satirical comedy that is deep enough for both insiders and outsiders of the theater industry.

To be directed by Jaime del Mundo, the Manila premier of THE PRODUCERS will feature top caliber actors Carlo Orosa and Robie Zialcita alternating as Max Bialystock, the beleaguered producer facing bankruptcy, who woos little old ladies into backing his shows.

The role of MAX was portrayed by Zero Mostel (in the 1968 film) and Nathan Lane (in the Broadway musical and the 2005 film)
