Sexy Boys Go Bare For HIV Awareness

Wazzup Pilipinas !

Love Yourself, the country's fastest-growing HIV advocacy group with more than 200 trained volunteers, has launched its 2013 visual campaign dubbed ‘Project Indulge’ in collaboration with advertising agency Campaigns and Grey, and photographer Jeanne Young.

‘Project Indulge’ – a first-of-its-kind campaign, features provocative yet tasteful imagery coupled with insightful, witty ‘matter-of-fact’ copy that departs from the usual fear tactics of HIV awareness campaigns. It suggests that people include regular HIV testing as part of their personal grooming routine to stay healthy and sexy.

WCC Airbus Flight Simulator : Fly Like Its The Real Thing

Wazzup Pilipinas !

The WCC Aviation School is now carving a reputation as a leading school for pilots not only in the Philippines, but also in Asia.

Proof of this is the recent acquisition of WCC of an Airbus A320 full flight simulator -- the latest of its kind and the only one that is housed near the NAIA complex. The recently acquired multi-million dollar worth of simulation training system developed by SIM Industries allows you to feel and experience how it is to land in the world's busiest airports -- from Chep Lap Kok Airport of Hong Kong, Incheon Airport of South Korea, to even our own NAIA Airport. You can even feel like a 'pilot-for-a-day' and experience real-life scenarios (rain, strong winds, night time, etc.) while inside the Airbus simulator.

G.E.B. Superclub Sponsors a Pre-Valentine Party

Wazzup Pilipinas !

Great food, drinks, games and raffles highlighted the My Bloggin' Valentine Pre-Valentine Party sponsored by the G.E.B. Superclub. The club is located at Tomas Morato and played host to a party for bloggers and their special someone. After all, its the season of loving, and we loved every minute we spent at the G.E. B. Superclub.

Everyone was laughing until the end because of the events that transpired that night. Each one went home fulfilled, a bit drunk, noisy, and satisfied! Some had stage fright but was able to get away with the prize, some had to sound off the longest and went home with some cash, while some had to gulp a bottle of beer as  fast as they can to claim a cash reward as well, and more had the opportunity to bring home some cash and a couple of concert tickets.

Thank you G.E.B. Superclub for the best night ever!

Mozilla Firefox OS App Days

The Manila leg of Firefox OS App Days was held at the Boracay and Balesin Rooms of the Alphaland Southgate Tower, strategically located at the corner of EDSA and Pasong Tamo adjacent to the MRT Magallanes Station in the country’s financial district capital: Makati City.

The Firefox OS App Days was an opportunity to learn, hack and celebrate Firefox OS, Mozilla’s open source operating system for the mobile web. Technologists and developers presented tools and technology built to extend and support the Web platform. The browser-based Firefox OS Simulator was used to view and test mobile apps on the desktop.

Mr. William Reynolds (in the picture along with Robert "Bob" Reyes) from Mozilla Mountain View (California, USA) joined the celebration.

Firefox OS App Days are a chance to kick start creation of apps for the Firefox Marketplace, and represent a great opportunity to build new apps or optimize existing HTML5 apps for Firefox OS, as well as demo your projects to an audience of peers, tech leaders and innovators.

The day formally started with Community Manager Eusebio “Jun” Barrun, Jr.‘s talk about “Mozilla in the Philippines“. His slide deck can be viewed here.

It was then Mozilla Rep Bob Reyes' turn to be on stage for his “Firefox and the New Web Challenge.” His slide deck (HTML5) can be viewed online here.

Monique Almario
, the country’s very first WebFWD Scout gave an overview of what the program offers to aspiring technopreneurs. Her slides are here.

Another Mozilla Rep, Kevin John Ventura, gave the attendees an overview of the Firefox Marketplace. His slides can be viewed online here.

William gave his presentation entitled “Apps are Boring; Games are Fun!” — originally created (and presented) by TofuMatt (get well soon, buddy). His slide deck can be viewed here.

Some more pictures below:

Everybody went home with a swag bag (with some stickers and a usb drive inside) and a “limited edition” Firefox OS App Days shirt courtesy of Mozilla.

Dell Supports Childhope Asia in Teaching Street Children

Dell announced it has joined the advocacy of Childhope Asia Philippines, Inc. (CHAP) to help close the learning gap among underserved children. CHAP will receive a Dell Powering the Possible grant that will facilitate its aim to empower street children through education and computer literacy.

Since 1989, Childhope Asia Philippines has been at the forefront of advocating the cause of street children in the Philippines and in Asia. It reaches out to about 1,200 street children every year and works to uplift street children from the hazards of working and living on the streets and aims to realize a better future for them by providing learning opportunities outside the confines of a formal school set-up. Visit www.childhope.org.ph to learn more about the organization.

CHAP works with the underprivileged street children and out-of-school youth in Metro Manila to give them equal opportunities for learning through several programs, including basic literacy and numeracy, alternative learning system basic education, computer literacy, as well as life skills, values and primary health education. To facilitate its outreach and protection/education program, the charity is aided by mobile education vans with street educators that are deployed to 18 locations daily where street children are commonly found—in parks or on the sidewalks of urban centers—to teach children there.

The core of this partnership is to provide the underserved youth and educators with access to technology and serve as a catalyst for lifelong learning and career readiness. Dell technology will be used to equip the mobile education vans with laptops and the required education software to accomplish the work of accredited programs administered by CHAP, benefiting an estimated 500 children.

In addition, the grant will also enable CHAP to set-up a computer lab with Dell desktops to provide digital learning and basic computer literacy classes to 120 selected street children brought to the charity’s premises and to the areas in Metro Manila where CHAP operates.

The computers at the center will also be installed with a database program that will be used by the 25 street educators for recording and tracking the progress of the street children under the program. This will greatly help in monitoring the welfare of the children and in evaluating the impact of the program to the beneficiaries.

Quotes:
“We’re grateful for Dell’s support in our efforts to defend the rights of street children by providing them with learning opportunities and knowledge that can help protect them from the vulnerabilities of life on the street. The education and skills they acquire will also go a long way in preparing them for a future as productive members of the community.”
Teresita L. Silva, president and executive director, Childhope Asia Philippines, Inc.

“Our initiatives to empower youth by closing the technology gap and providing training in information and communications technology skills are focused on improving, enhancing and jump-starting learning for life. By putting technology to work for underserved communities, we aim to help young people discover new possibilities, change their lives, and unleash their true potential.”
Richard Teo, president,Dell Philippines

“Providing our world’s youth with access to technology is something that is dear to me and dear to Dell. Our Powering the Possible program is designed to change the way youth learn and access information today. Our work with Childhope Asia is giving us the power to provide the technology, the know-how and the resources to help the next generation grow and thrive in their communities.”
Ranjita Menon, Dell Giving Manager, Asia-Pacific and Japan

Valentines Season Treats at Bistecca

Wazzup Pilipinas !

It was definitely the best post-Valentine date I had.

To dine in a luxurious restaurant like Bistecca with my loved ones. Yes! Its a plural! I have more than just one love - my wife and my three kids.

Who says Valentines are only for couples? Cupid still shot an arrow to our hearts and we remain strongly bonded as one big happy family.

A big happy family deserves a big tasty and juicy steak. Not just one but two! Since the Bistecca steak cuts can serve between two to three people, two steaks were ideal for our group of five. My kids may be at their tender age of 9, 13, and 14 but they do eat plenty- and Wow! The steaks at Bistecca never failed to satisfy our appetite.
