SM Youth Summer 2017 Collection

Wazzup Pilipinas!

TOKYO DRIFT
The SM Youth Summer 2017 collection looks to Japan’s fun mix of quirk and style.

Everyone seems to be in Japan—it’s the new millennial playground, where the young, hip and travel-obsessed go in search of new inspirations and Instagram fodder. But as far as style goes, the country has always been a great influence to how the youth dress themselves. But anime and J-Pop aside, Japan and all its nooks and crannies—Tokyo, Harajuku, even the less-populated lands of Hokkaido and Niseko—have proven to inspire a great deal of stylish individuals. This inspiration makes up SM Youth’s Summer ’17 collection.

Set in a pitch black yet lantern-lit space, the SM Youth Summer ’17 Collection is inspired by Japanese cuts and prints, Asian minimalism and the stylish quirks of young Tokyo. Eastern-inspired patterns are seen in dark florals and ancient Asian illustrations, while kimono-like cover-ups introduce a Japanese-like silhouette that’s a great, less structured alternative to the common guy’s hoodie or blazer. Asian minimalism is also seen in the collection, with oversized, boxy shirts, shorts and denim jackets done up in solids and spartan stripes. Bringing a jolt of craziness into the collection comes kooky cartoon prints and colors reminiscent of Harajuku’s vibrant, crazy-cool and devil-may-care style, pared down to be palatable to the SM Youth dresser: pop art banana prints, aqua-themed paint splash board shorts, and pastel Tees are just the right punch of sunshine this summer.

The SM Youth Summer ’17 Collection campaign was shot with SM Youth’s Richard Juan and Janna Tee. The collection is a line-up of Asian-inspired summer staples that can be worn on a beach trip, at a city staycation and even on a cool trip abroad.

Until May 31, get P100 on a purchase of any three (3) regular-priced items from Tee Culture, Markus, Tank, Character Brands and Coco Republic Teens.

SM Men Summer 2017 Collection

Wazzup Pilipinas!

GARDEN STATE
SM Men dresses up in foliage for summer.

The SM Men Summer '17 Collection takes us back to Copacabana, a hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil described in the similar-titled song as "the hottest spot North of Havana." The song describes a 1970s club showgirl sporting yellow feathers in her hair, and the men involved in her affairs. If that Copacabana setting was today, we imagine those men wearing pieces from this SM Men collection.

Inspired by the unending summertime vibe and retro foliage aesthetic of tropical locales such as Rio and Havana, Cuba, where men are able to emasculate botanical elements and incorporate them into dapper clothing. Tropicana has long been a recurring in fashion, yet its place in menswear has long been left for the fashionably bold—thankfully, palates have been skewed to accommodate nature prints in menswear fit for just about any kind of man. SM Men Summer '17 Collection provides a wide range of tropical prints and complementing pieces that hits the right notes for the summer.

Starting the season with a fresh palate, SM Men features short-sleeves polos with lush leaves and foliage prints in cool-toned palettes, complemented by drawstring cropped shorts in both printed and plain summer colors. Worn together as complete coordinates, clashing prints or complementing pieces, the collection is versatile enough to wear in summer cityscapes or tropical nature spots.

Until May 31, buy any three (3) regular-priced items to get P100 off on these brands: Baleno, Bo Athletics, Code Blue, Coco Republic, Men’s Club, Sportsclub and Maxwear.

Land of the Rising Sun vs Pearl of the East

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Kon-nichiwa!

It's Japanese vs Filipino Culture. I know that most are already familiar with the differences about Japan's and Philippine's culture when it comes to foods, ways of greeting, and education. Well for me, I can somehow say that I am interested in fashions from different countries. Obviously, I chose Japanese clothing vs Filipino clothing.

The traditional wear for women of Japan is kimono. Kimono is generally made of silk, have large sleeves and reach from the shoulders all the way down to the heels. It is tied with a wide belt called an obi. Nowadays, kimonos are used for special occasions such as weddings, festivals, graduations, and other rare gatherings. The kimono tends to limit one's movement, and it takes more time to put on properly.
