The Philippine Postal Corporation (Post Office) commemorates National Stamp Collecting Month and the 255th Anniversary of the Philippine Postal Service with the launching of FVR Stamps and commemorative exhibit featuring the late President’s collection and other memorabilia held at the lobby of the historic Manila Central Post Office building in Liwasang Bonifacio, Nov. 25.

Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio thanked the family of the late President Fidel V. Ramos, his wife Mrs. Amelita “Ming” Ramos, and Ms. Cristina Martinez-Ramos, fourth Child among five daughters of FVR, for allowing the Post Office to exhibit FVR’s stamp collection and other paraphernalia in honor of his legacy and passion for stamp collecting.

He added, “Apart from his popular hobby, the Post Office pays tribute and celebrates the legacy of public service he has imparted to each one of us”.

As someone who has a deep knowledge of stamp collecting, FVR has declared November of every year as National Stamp Collecting Month through presidential proclamation No. 494. He is instrumental in the promotion of Philately, which is the study and collection of stamps.

With his declaration, Philately is now being propagated to promote the art of stamp collecting to Filipinos, especially the youth. “This is the Post Office’s way of reaffirming our appreciation and support to one of the indelible legacies of our revered FVR”, Assistant Postmaster General for Management Support Services Atty. Benjie Yutoko said.

Although former First Lady “Ming” Ramos was not present during the launching ceremony, her daughter Cristina was there to represent the Ramos Family.

” We are thankful to the Post Office for paying tribute to President FVR”, she said.

Ms. Cristina thanked the Post Office for recognizing the services and contributions of his Father. The Ramos family is deeply honored for this recognition”.

It is the mandate of the Post Office to immortalize and pay tribute to former Presidents, who in one way or another have served and contributed to the development of the country. He added, the Postage Stamps we issued symbolize unity, respect, and love of the country. When a former president passes away, we set aside politics and the whole country mourns.”

Stamps, Souvenir Sheets, and official First Day Covers are now available at the Philatelic Counter in Manila. Ms. Eunice Beatrix U. Dabu and Agnes C. Rarangol (Post Office) layout the stamps.
