Hidilyn Diaz off to the Tokyo Olympics

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz officially makes a return to the quadrennial meet!

Diaz competed in the women’s 55kg division. This event formalizes her entry to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics during the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Taskhkent, Uzbekistan.

Diaz becomes the seventh Filipino in the Tokyo Olympics. She will make her fourth Olympic appearance since Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio (2016) Games.

She joins boxers Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, pole vaulter EJ Obiena and gymnast Carlos Yulo.

Diaz is now a step closer to claiming more of the Philippines' Olympic medals after formalizing her qualification.

Regardless of her positioning in this tourney, Diaz already secures a spot in the Tokyo Olympics by virtue of completing the five-tournament rule.

From silver memories to golden thoughts. Hidilyn Diaz is about to make us proud again in Tokyo.

Proud of our athletes as they make it rain medals at #SEAGames! Special shoutout to our weightlifting champ on winning her 1st SEA Games gold. Thank you for showing us the indomitable spirit of the Filipino
