Container Gardening Series: Harvesting Ampalaya

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Harvested my ampalaya... One (not in the photo) was infested with fruit flies inside so I threw it away. Sayang! But glad the rest were untouched.

Dahil infested yung isa, I went out and harvested another one para pamalit.

Sa ampalaya talaga ako very proud. From its leaves to its fruits, very useful for us.

Considering they are growing from small plastic pots, makes you thankful of the harvests you are getting from them.

Patuloy na paglaki ng ampalaya fruit. Sinubukan kong huwag balutin this time, at bahala na kung kakagatin ng fruit flies.

Pasensiya na, favorite ko talaga itong veggie na ito.

Gusto ko na i-harvest yung malalaki but still wanting to see how big they can get...and proud to have so much also growing so healthy.

Some more ampalaya fruits to look forward to.. Ambait talaga ni bitter gourd veggie ko, laging may kasunod na mga bunga for next harvest.

Sulit na yung pinagmulan niya na seeds from the ampalaya fruit that we bought from the store.

Does he appreciate my taking of her photos? Baka natutuwa siya everytime I take pictures of her fruits kaya nagpapasikat talaga.

Though meron ding bad news:

Naunahan na ko ng fruit flies on this ampalaya fruit. Discovered the hole at the back. Mukhang inuutakan na ko ng mga fruit flies dahil sa likod na umaatake.

Cut the fruit from the plant and threw it away because there could be infestation inside already.

What a waste. Pinapalaki ko pa sana.

May maliit pa lang nanilaw na. Attacked by fruit flies or aborted by the plant itself?

Could be for other reasons. I got one or two of these before but usually mga three times bigger na so I assumed they were attacked by fruit flies or other insects, but in this case, it could be the plant itself is losing the capability to grow fruits successfully?

Parang unsuccessful pregnancy?

But let us not dwell on the failures, instead go for the positive. Let's cook our harvest.

Traditional pa rin na ampalaya with egg ang gusto na iluto ko pero haluan ko ng a few ampalaya leaves at 1/4 kilo of shrimps (will cook first then balatan) ...then the 6 pieces kamatis and just 1 sibuyas (di ako mahilig)...of course the eggs.

Kainan na!
