My Pope Helps You Feel Forever Young

Wazzup Pilipinas!

My Pope Philippines is guaranteed to put a spring in your step this June with feel-good and youthful features for all ages.

This month’s issue will inspire readers of My Pope Philippines to embrace the joy of growing wiser day by day. Open up a copy and you’ll be in for a real treat with 36 secrets to staying forever young, as well as 16 inspiring stories of young movers and shakers from all over the globe who are initiating change in the world with their advocacies such as Millie Bobbie Brown, the youngest Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF; and Carlos Yulo who bagged a historic bronze medal in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships- men’s floor final. Take your cue from 20-year-old Janrey Nevado, the summa cum laude son of a security guard, and the formerly at-risk-youth of Messy Bessy on how hard work, perseverance, and big dreams are fool-proof traits for success. Professional photographer Shaira Luna also gives us a fresh perspective on success and creativity.

Of course our Youth issue would not be complete without our exclusive glimpse into Lolo Kiko’s cute antics as a young boy, before he became our most beloved Pope! We also bridge the gap between the older generation and today’s youth by exploring what each one can learn from the other.

Just as My Pope Philippines has always done in the past, our June issue sheds a positive light on some of our most pressing concerns. In our pages, we discuss bullying, and the dynamic between parents and teachers, because our youth and children need all the guidance they can get to flourish into responsible, loving, and successful members of our society.

To cap it all off, we bring you St. Joan of Arc, the famous sword-wielding teenager of medieval France, and her awe-inspiring life story. The young girl who became one of her country’s patron saints continues to stir a sense of bravery in the hearts of young people even after centuries later. And why wouldn’t this be the case? As Pope Francis said, “young people are more than the future of our world. Even now, they are helping to enrich it.”

My Pope Philippines is available in newsstands nationwide. Subscribe to the magazine for your monthly dose of feel-good stories and get a chance to win the My Pope Win a Trip to the Vatican Raffle! When Is The Right Time To Introduce Bra To Your Adolescent Girl?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Moms of small school going girls who are just transforming into their teenage and developing a shape at their breasts often are searching eagerly for the answer to one question. They want to know the right time for their girls to start wearing a bra. Now, this is a tricky question, but with a very scientific explanation, which you must understand to get to the answer. For this, you first need to understand why exactly women need a bra. Then you may get to the factual explanation.

Why is it important to wear a bra?

Women wear a bra to support their breast tissues. The breasts are lumps of fat with some muscle tissues, which are held by a pouch of skin at the place. They are the softest part of the body because there is no bone to protect them or to give them any firm shape. Breasts are full and firm by appearance when they are maintained well with the support of a bra. The fabric in the bra gives a cage or pouch to the breasts to support their weight, and keep the lumps of fat and tissues in a shape throughout while maintaining the elasticity of the skin over them. Therefore, it's imperative that women must start wearing a bra as soon as their breasts start to develop, and should continue wearing one till they are healthy and deem it important to care for their breast shape and body proportion, appearance, and sexuality.

If the breasts do not get that support from a bra, then they are going to lose their elasticity and shape with time. The weight of the fat and tissue in each breast would make it droop downwards, which is a common natural reaction to the earth’s gravitational pull. Over time, an uncared pair of breasts which don’t get their support from well-fitting bra would droop and lose shape. Naturally, due to shapeless drooping breasts, the overall feminine look and appeal would get impacted to an extent. That’s why, to keep breasts firm and shapely, and also the tissues elastic, it’s very important to wear a bra. And the decision to wear the bra at the right age is even more important so that you can start caring for the breasts as they start forming and taking shape.

When a young girl does start developing her breasts

A young girl may start developing her breasts at any age between 8 and 14. Every girl grows at a different pace, and every girl's body is different. That's why some girls mature a little early at around 8, and some mature a little late at around 14. The average age of maturity when the girl starts needing bra support is 1. At around age 11, most girls need bra support. Now how as the guardian or mother, you would determine if this age is the right one depends on your observation and judgment. Here are some important points to look for as you try to understand the developmental phase of the young girl:

Look for signs of breast buds. Breast buds are the early developing breast tissues, which gives a little lumpy appearance to the breasts. The area around the breast looks little lumpy or heavy.

When beast buds develop, then the nipples get prominent. Often they get visible over the shirt or dress. Naturally, they would get visible over the school uniform too, which is a sign that the girl is ready for a bra.

Lumps of fat get deposited at various places in the body to give a little feminine shape. When your young girl gets this kind of little fat deposition along with a little feminine heaviness or curves, then it may be the time.

When the girl gets her periods, then it’s a sure sign of puberty.

All of the signs mentioned above are signs of puberty and secondary sexual characteristics getting prominent in a girl. And this is the right stage for you to introduce a bra to her.

The right time to get a bra for a developing young girl

The right time to get your young girl a bra is when her breasts start to mature and take shape. You must not wait too late to get her breasts mature. This may bring on a big gap in the support system, thereby permanently affecting and partially damaging the developing breasts and her feminine shape. Therefore, the right and ripe time is the initial stage of formation of the breasts. To get her ready, you may initially introduce a teenage bra or preparatory bra. As she accepts the concept and feel, you can get accurate measurements of her developing breasts to get her the right bra size. You may have to start with the smallest bra size, and then with time, you will have to update the size with the continuous periodic measurement and buy bra o the updated sizes.

It is very important to keep in mind that you will have to teach your young girl to learn to check her on bra size, while you also help her measure the right size for her bra. This size must be noted every few months as the breast keeps developing, and the girl never has to wear the wrong sized bra and affect her growing breast tissues the wrong way.

How to prepare her mind to carry her bra?

Some girls mature faster mentally. They like it when their friends at school also wear bras and want to get one for them too. Their way of showing interest to this would be by telling her mom about how their friends have started wearing one. But some girls feel shy about it or may feel embarrassed to wear a bra initially. Hence, you must help the young girl get accustomed to the concept, and explain her the importance of this underwear.

Finally - Choosing the right bra size

It's very important that you choose the right sized bra for your growing young adolescent. The size has a key role in further supporting the development of a firm, healthy breast shape. Too loose or too tight bras have to be strictly avoided by adhering to the right area specific size calculator.

Liquid Biopsy Uses Blood Tests to Track and Treat Cancer

Wazzup Pilipinas!

MakatiMed discusses developing its own “homebrew” for monitoring cancer treatment

When a patient has a suspicious lump or shows cancer symptoms, one of the first things a doctor can perform is a tissue biopsy. This procedure collects cells for a closer examination to determine if cancer is indeed present, indicate what type it is, and provide clues on the course the disease is likely to take (prognosis) – which in turn, impacts the treatment the patient will receive.

Though remaining the gold standard in detecting and getting information on cancer, tissue biopsies can be risky, invasive, and painful. The inaccessibility of a tumor, as well as existing health conditions, often prevent some patients from undergoing the procedure. Still, there is no question about the importance of biopsies as these help guide doctors on personalized treatment strategies for their patients.

According to Makati Medical Center’s Jose Maria C. Avila, MD, co-director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CRM), the hospital has, in recent years, began offering liquid biopsy as a complementary procedure for monitoring and treating cancer patients.

“Because of how a tissue biopsy is conducted, repeatedly performing the procedure will be difficult for patients. But we still need to track tumors as they change and develop overtime to allow doctors to gauge a patient’s response to treatment and make necessary adjustments when needed.”

Liquid biopsy essentially uses blood from a patient to collect a sample of cancer cells or parts of DNA. “The procedure is less invasive since we are only drawing blood,” says Dr. Avila. “That’s easier on a patient since we have to perform the procedure a number of times to monitor their progress.”

Another benefit is being able to further personalize treatment. The procedure detects mutations from fragments collected in the blood, and a mutation of a tumor can vary greatly in the kind of treatment it requires.

As Dr. Avila explains, “This is personalized medicine. A tumor will have a mutation that is unique, and there’s a treatment needed for this particular mutation, and this individual cancer. A kind of treatment can work for one patient but not for another, and we want to be able to make the best decisions for each individual patient.”

Currently, MakatiMed utilizes liquid biopsy as a complementary procedure, and not as a replacement to tissue biopsy – at least not yet, as the approach is still evolving. “What we utilize it for right now is on the prognostic side, for monitoring patients’ response to treatment. Although, there are certain circumstances wherein liquid biopsy may be considered an option,” Dr. Avila points out.

These include if the patient cannot undergo tissue biopsy due to the location of the tumor or other factors affecting his or her health condition, or if the situation is critical and tissue biopsy will present complications in procuring samples as quickly as possible.

The CRM has also developed a “homebrew” liquid biopsy for its patients. “Our method detects gene expressions. Gene expressions determine what the cell can do and how it responds to its changing environment. There are a number of gene expressions that correspond to a certain type of cancer,” says Dr. Avila.

He continues, “After a patient is diagnosed with the specific type of cancer and receives the first or second round of treatment, we can use the liquid biopsy to monitor how the patient is responding by looking for these gene expressions. The oncologist can then adjust or change the treatment in order to decrease these expressions.”

As of now, the CRM is offering the liquid biopsy procedure for patients with lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and soon, colon cancer. MakatiMed has also selected the U.S.-based specialty cancer diagnostics company Precipio, Inc. as its provider for the mutation enhancement technology used in liquid biopsies.

“With liquid biopsy as a viable, effective and less invasive monitoring procedure to help address the challenges of tissue biopsies, MakatiMed is able to consistently provide quality healthcare for our patients,” Dr. Avila concludes.

During the final session, the participants will be presenting a 7-minute pitch of their project to the jury. Two (2) projects will bring home the SOVOLAB co-production grant worth of One Million Pesos.

PHLPost Opens Stamps Exhibit to Mark Chinatown Museum Grand Launch

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has mounted an exhibition called “Revive” featuring a section that showcased historical artifacts of the old post office building, chronicling the history of the postal service and Philippine Stamps to coincide with the Grand Launch of the Interactive Chinatown Museum.

Located at the 4th floor, Lucky Chinatown Building A in the famous district of Binondo, Manila, guests and museum enthusiast were treated with a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage, colorful festivities and traditions featuring “Binondo: A History of Connections”.

The Chinatown Museum has sections that the public can walk through famous places, and historical collections which can also be seen through multimedia displays for the public to enjoy and appreciate.

With PHLPost participation, it aims to inspire Filipinos to protect, preserve and promote this nationally important historical archive of stamps and collections providing visual, physical and written records of 251 years of postal heritage in the country.

The Philippine Postal System has a remarkable history. It was first established in Manila in 1767. The first known location of the Manila Post Office was on Escolta, next to the Estero de la Reina near Santa Cruz church.

The Manila Central Post Office Building was built in 1926 as a modern colonial architecture, an example of a perfect neo-classical monument built and designed by Filipino Architect Juan Arellano and Tomas Mapua in the heart of Manila. The structure was rebuilt, guided by its original design, after suffering extensive damage during the World War II.

The historic building has been declared an Important Cultural Property (ICP) and will undergo renovation with the assistance coming from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) next year.

Tick These Checkboxes And Enjoy The Best Possible Cake

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In your special event, what is it that you pay the most attention to? You can feel free to say decoration, location, etc. Very seldom do we hear someone say it’s the cake. This is no laughing matter but every aspect of your event is important and the cake is simply one of them. You cannot afford to alter or collapse the sweetness of the bonding with your loved one. Many might think that cake is mostly about its appearance but the truth remains that the look of it is just a part of the cake but your choice will be right when you have a cake that is a great blend of looks and flavors.

Choose an Ethical Bakery

The person you choose as your baker may not have prepared many cakes and be self-assured with the design. They should be enlisted and insured and hold a certificate of capability for Food Handling. Validate that the work they show you is their work, it is very late on the day to find out that they are not whom they appear to be. Ask around for customer reviews. A dear cake is not certainly better than a less expensive cake.

Buttercream or Fondant?

Let us first understand the difference between them, Italian buttercream is made from Italian meringue with butter lashed through it. It is the most widespread icing used on cupcakes and if you like the pastoral or textured appearance on tiered cakes then this is the icing to use. Trundled fondant is a sugar paste and not marzipan, it tangs a little like marshmallow and gives a flawlessly charming customary finish.

Quantity Matters

When you opt for a Butterscotch Cake online, cake makers come with a special guide that will help you fix the number of servings. One must be guided by this in the final decision for the size of the cake.

Shortlist Your Plan

It’s your special event and it’s always great to be a man with the plan. Shortlist some of the aspects that you would like to see on your cake. It might be decoration pieces or even flavors that might be everyone’s favorite. If you already have a rough plan in your mind then it would help the baker to come up with a better design as well.

Be Open To Experimenting

You’re free to have your favorites in terms of design and flavors but you need to be flexible with your choices and not be too stubborn or adamant. Too much of strength in your choices can lead to discomfort for the baker and designer.

Keep in mind these tips and you will have the best cake at your disposal. Keep in mind that a cake is deemed successful only when it tastes good. Invest your time on garnishing and designs but the flavor remains the last and that is the most important aspect of selecting a cake.

#ShopeeScam Ruins Blackpink Meet And Greet

Wazzup Pilipinas!

#ShopeeScam became the #1 trending topic on Twitter after a number of Filipino Blinks claimed that the online shopping site scammed them into a chance of meeting BLACKPINK during their visit to PH by becoming one of the site’s “top spenders.

Online retailer Shopee apologizes to its users for issues that involved a meetu-and-greet with Korean girl group

ShopeePH is so dumb for giving tickets to the so called influencers/celebrities for marketing purposes when blinks could easily trend anything WW at #1 to give them clout, follow and hype them. But instead they decided to scam filo blinks. Their BIGGEST mistake!

Sue Ramirez, Kristel Fulgar, Sharlene San Pedro, Anne Curtis are the only celebrities who deserve to be invited at the event. The rest like Awra Briguela, AC Bonifacio, etc., are just insensitive freeloaders.

Lazada, Zalora, BeautyMNL and OLX are probably all partying after hearing Shopee's going to hell due to that Blackpink fiasco.

Blink or not Blink, ANY fan doesn't deserve to be taken advantage by insensitive capitalists. No matter what the name is written on your "jersey", we all deserve better. I hope and pray they'd be given justice.

Jennie had a panic attack and y’all fuckers still calling her lazy just because she has motion sickness that she uses medications for (proven) y’all have me SICK. fuck shopee!

ABS-CBN Bandila reporting this last night on national TV, posting the full report on all of their social media accounts, tagging BP’s twitter account and using the hashtag #SHOPEESCAM is one of the best thing they’ve done!

I have always known that blinks are powerful once they were united but I never expect them to be this powerful. Like damn they could drag a whole country down if they wanted to and I am not even exaggerating.

Blinks literally spent hundreds of thousands just to win and see BlackPink but Shopee did them dirty lol You think they will spend that much if they are not really a fan?
I'm not a Blink, but man no one ever deserves how Shopee treated them. They failed on every front of the event & have the gall to push the fans away after all the trouble. My heart goes out to all the Blinks. Hope this gets resolved soon and they get to meet Blackpink on better terms. To all BLINKS who are really affected by the issue, please file a legal case, regardless of the apology. That 1K voucher offer to remedy is laughable.

PH companies should never underestimate KPOP fans. Messing with these fans can bring down a company.

In Ddudu-ddudu medley... Shopee ay magnanakaw, ah yeah ah yeah! Scammer! Ah yeah ah yeah!

Tips to Choose the Right Weighted Blanket for You

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Weighted blankets are found to be helpful in better managing insomnia, anxiety, stress etc. Some physicians also recommend it in addition to therapeutic methods to better manage health issues related to sleep disorders. In fact, these heavy blankets are found to be a bit costly too compared to regular blankets. However, if you are a bit knowledgeable and careful about purchasing these, one can make it the most cost effective and viable choice. Let's see how.

Why buy a weighted blanket?

As we read above, weighted blankets are now very popular as they help relieve symptoms related to sensory processing disorder, which affects both adults and children alike. There are many kids with developmental delays and adults with sensory perception issues.

Human takes information from our sense and then process it to take real-time living decisions, which is a continuous function we actually don't realize. However, in individuals with sensory processing disorders, the brain doesn't process the information properly, which creates a mental jam, and the sufferer will experience anxiety and stress. This may further lead to learning and behavioural disorders in children and adults.

Some health professionals and occupational therapists suggest that deep touch pressure therapy may help in sensory process disorders. It is proven that weighted blankets can create an impact as of deep touch pressure therapy, which seems to have an effect in treating stress and anxiety symptoms in sensory disorders. Many reputed providers like https://www.calmingblankets.com.au offer a wide range of weighted blankets now.

Choosing the right weight blanked for the best results

Nowadays, you may also get blankets with polyester fibre ball, which may add a little more warmth in cooler seasons.

Demand for CBD Cream and Other CBD-Infused Products Continues to Surge

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The popularity of Cannabidiol or
CBD-infused edibles, oils, and vapes continue to surge. It seems there is a huge market interested in the products, though a bit controversial, especially on many countries, the interests continue to increase.

CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis, a plant with a rich history as a medicine going back thousands of years. Both CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC (one of at least 113 cannabinoids and the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis) have significant therapeutic attributes. But unlike THC, CBD does not make a person feel “stoned” or intoxicated.

Diamond CBD is America's most trusted manufacturer of hemp based CBD oils, CBD vape oil, CBD lotion, CBD edibles, CBD gummies, CBD creams, and other hemp-based products like crystals, tinctures, and vape liquids. The recent product additions like CBD-infused coffee, bath bombs, and Brain Chill Slushies have helped carve out a distinct position for the brand across the country, and their other customers across the globe. The greater innovation helps sustain the market's excitement and appetite for new premium CBD products.

The company's main focus is to research and develop innovative CBD hemp extracts and to make them accessible worldwide. They seek to maintain the highest quality possible with all of their products, sourcing all of ingredients from only the best places.

With a team of doctors and scientists that are dedicated to produce the finest and purest CBD products while never compromising on quality, be at ease knowing that Diamond CBD contains no psycho-active inducing THC that could be harmful to your well-being.

Their primary goal is to create diverse, high-quality hemp extracts with a broad profile of cannabinoids and other natural molecules found in hemp, while identifying their distinct properties, through their extensive efforts in research and development.

All their products are carefully monitored throughout the production process, and include 100% natural, lab tested, CBD extracts.

Non-GMO organically-grown plants are manually selected with careful precision, then gently harvested and dried under the most optimal conditions. They work with farms from Kentucky, Colorado, and Scandinavia.

Their raw materials are quality tested to ensure that they meet the highest standards. They use third-party independent labs to test products and verify ingredients.

Supercritical Extraction is the most gentle approach to extract high quality CBD, which retains the naturally occurring beneficial molecules in the hemp plant.

CBD products are lab tested to ensure the highest level of quality extraction. Every batch of an extract is lab-tested to ensure a consistent product and to achieve the utmost purity in our products. They carefully supervise the entire process, from growth to manufacturing, and distribution.

Experts estimate the hemp-derived CBD market to hit 22 billion by 2022, as consumers around the world increasingly look to CBD products to help treat chronic pain conditions and as a potential preventative measure for muscle soreness and inflammation. A growing body of research evidence also shows that CBD may offer therapeutic advantages for a whole host of conditions from autism to Alzheimer's.

DOE Calls on MERALCO, Other DUs to Expedite CSP Bidding of Stalled PSAs

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi upheld the recent Supreme Court decision mandating the Competitive Selection Process (CSP) in the public bidding of power supply agreements.

"All affected power industry players must catch up and push under the CSP, those stalled supply agreements for the next 23 years," he said.

It may be recalled that the Supreme Court (SC) decision which maintained that “all Power Supply Agreement (PSA) applications submitted by Distribution Utilities (DUs) to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on or after 30 June 2015 shall comply with the Competitive Selection Process" was welcomed by the DOE.

Sec. Cusi said that the government will ensure the compliance of all affected parties in the energy sector to the SC ruling, with the DOE taking the lead in prodding industry stakeholders to expedite the CSP bidding of stalled power supply PSA applications of Meralco and other distribution utilities.

The Energy Chief has previously emphasized that the High Court’s ruling is a nod to the DOE's "longstanding conviction on the fundamental role of the CSP as a mechanism to ensure transparency and fair competition in the procurement of our power supply. It was designed to protect the consuming public from power rate spikes, pass-on charges, and avert predatory practices."

Lastly, Sec. Cusi reiterated the government’s responsibility to uphold and protect the right of the Filipino people to receive the full benefits of the country’s liberalized electric power industry, as envisioned by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA).

He again underscored the wisdom of the EPIRA in providing for the deregulated and demonopolized generation and distribution of power as a means to "yield the delivery of the best services at the least cost to our consumers."

Consultative meetings with the concerned stakeholders are already underway, with the DOE also requiring all Distribution Utilities to submit annual supply demand projections to demonstrate the sufficiency of their supplemental power supply levels in the coming years.
