Madame Tussauds, Klook and Cathay Pacific Immortalize Pia Wurtzbach as First Filipino Wax Figure

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Don't be surprised if you saw two Pia Wurtzbachs at the Fashion Hall of SM Megamall earlier of March 29, 2019.

With wax figures as detailed as this one, no wonder Madame Tussauds is a popular attraction everywhere they setup a museum, and with this replica wearing a similar blue gown with Swarovski crystals created by the same designer, Michael.Cinco, you can't tell them apart if Pia stood still imitating the wax figure.

Dopelganger, twin, clone, or whatever you want to call it. It's an attraction you could hug and even kiss without the real person minding. Shucks! I should have done that during the photo ops with the real Pia herself. How come it only came into mind just now! Bummer! It would have been amusing seeing Pia's reaction.

Congratulations to Pia for being chosen as the first Filipino immortalized as a wax figure...You beat the Pacman, and all other Pinoy personalities. It's a big hard punch against other "famous" or "infamous" personalities in the Philippines. Who would have known a beauty queen who took home the Miss Universe crown last 2015 will be the very first Madame Tussauds Pinoy icon.

We interviewed the General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong to get some more details on the selection process so watch it as soon as it gets uploaded.

Also interviewed Klook's Market Lead to know more about the promos on tours and other activities. This is also because I'm planning to visit HK soon in July for another event coverage so I will definitely be passing by Madame Tussauds.

Too bad the rep from Cathay Pacific already left the event before we could get to interview him. The only limtation I have with their promo is that they don't accept Paypal payments. I should have booked my flight with them.

But there was the photo ops with two other beauty queens which sort of saves the day since who doesn't want to be in the middle of two gorgeous ladies. Nah! They were there for Pia and not me...hehehe. Actually, every beauty queen or candidates much-coveted crown is the Miss Universe title so being crowned by the former Moss Iniverse will be truly epic....It's like transfering the Queen title to Miss Universe hopefuls.

DOE Holds Basic LNG Training

Wazzup Pilipinas!

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER: DOE Assistant Secretary Leonido J. Pulido III stresses the importance of the Basic LNG Training and encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the natural gas industry.

Members of the Department of Energy – Oil Industry Management Bureau led by Assistant Secretary Leonido J. Pulido III, held a two-day training program on Basic Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) last 25 and 26 March 2019 as part of the Gas Policy Development Project (GPDP) of the DOE and the University of the Philippines – Statistical Center Research Foundation, Inc. (UP-SCRFI).

The program provided a basic understanding of key concepts of the LNG value chain, the Philippine Downstream Natural Gas Industry Regulation (PDNGR), as well as the technical assistance to be extended by the GPDP relative to the implementation of the PDNGR.

Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi expressed his support for the knowledge and capacity-building activity given the crucial role of LNG in the country’s energy supply.

“It is important for the government to keep cultivating a strong partnership with the academe. Their expertise and perspectives are crucial in helping us develop effective strategies in meeting our energy development goals, especially in light of Malampaya’s forthcoming depletion. We need to gain a deep understanding of the LNG for us to fully harness its potential as an energy resource,” Sec. Cusi emphasized.

Representatives from various LNG companies such as Cheniere, Japan’s Energy for a New Era (JERA), Golar LNG, and Osaka Gas were among the resource speakers for the training program.

Other government agencies that were represented in the workshop included the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Department of Labor and Employment-Bureau of Working Conditions, the Maritime Industry Authority, Bureau of Fire Protection, the Environmental Management Bureau, Philippine Coast Guard, as wells the Health and City Engineering Offices of Batangas City. Together with other industry stakeholders, the participants engaged in a dynamic discussion on relevant Philippine laws, policies and regulations, and other technical processes required for the establishment and operations of LNG facilities.

Inputs from the discussions will be used in the formulation of natural gas policies and in the development of a comprehensive resource document on LNG in the Philippines.

The GPDP is being implemented by the United States Department of State under the US-Asia Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy initiative.

All-new Mazda3 Ushers in New Era for Bermaz Auto Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Our correspondent Donna Raquiza recently attended the Mazda 3 Hatchback / Sedan Launch

We're excited to share to you the news about this new model that will surely be another bestseller among car owners especially those wanting to own their first car. Mazda has been known as an automobile brand with exceptional driving experience together with higher levels of design, craftsmanship, and engineering.

The all-new Mazda3 Hatchback boasts of its distinctive and sporty styling that completes the model’s appeal and complements the luxurious character of the sedan,” says Steven Tan, president and CEO of Bermaz Auto Philippines. It's the brand’s decisive shift toward a premium product and customer experience.

Mazda has applied its human-centric philosophy for dramatic improvements in every area: design, driving performance, NVH, environmental performance, and quality feel.

Watch out for it soon in the Philippine market.

The Media Launch was held on March 20, 2019 at Blue Leaf Filipinas located at Aseana Macapagal, Paranaque City.

Check out our videos, including our interviews with the head honcho of Bermaz/Mazda himself, and other photos at our official Facebook page at https://www.Facebook.com/WazzupPilipinas

Below is the official press release from the event.

The all-new Mazda3 Hatchback makes its ASEAN debut in the Philippines

A new chapter begins for Bermaz Auto Philippines, the official distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, as it premieres the all-new Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback. The Mazda3 pioneers the new era of Mazda Premium by elevating the nameplate’s already exceptional driving experience together with higher levels of design, craftsmanship, and engineering.

Making its debut in Southeast Asia, the Mazda3 Hatchback embodies a more emotional design that evokes a sense of exciting experiences to come. To achieve such a look, Mazda took an unprecedented approach to design that eliminates all character lines and relies entirely on lustrous and beautifully curved body panels that reflect the surrounding environment. As such, the model delights onlookers with an appearance that changes by the season and the hour of the day. “We’re proud to host the ASEAN reveal of the all-new Mazda3 Hatchback. Its distinctive, sporty styling completes the model’s appeal and complements the luxurious character of the sedan,” says Steven Tan, president and CEO of Bermaz Auto Philippines.

The Mazda3’s mission is to amaze and delight customers all over the world. To achieve this, Mazda has applied its human-centric philosophy for dramatic improvements in every area: design, driving performance, NVH, environmental performance, and quality feel.

Featuring what Mazda calls its 7th Generation design direction, the Mazda3 represents the brand’s decisive shift toward a premium product and customer experience. “Having sold over 6 million units since its debut, the all-new Mazda3 is a global strategic model that has driven Mazda’s growth from both a brand and business perspective,” shares Tan. “More than 19,000 Mazda3 units have been loved by fans since its 2004 introduction into the country, making it the most successful Mazda model on record in the local market.”

As the first Mazda model to adopt a more mature interpretation of the KODO design language, the all-new Mazda3 has a richer and more powerful expression of vitality than previous models. The Mazda3’s overall form presents a simple and single motion, while subtle undulations bring the design to life through shifting light and reflections.

“Mazda continues to explore the essence of Japanese aesthetic sensibilities, pursuing a uniquely elegant and sophisticated style that elevates car design to the level of art,” says Susumu Niinai, General Manager of the ASEAN Business Office, Mazda Motor Corporation. “Our new-generation design vision models, the RX-Vision and the Vision Coupe, have won a number of prestigious design awards, showing that our new design direction is being well received. Based on these two models, the all-new Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback have very distinct personalities, the design of the Hatchback is emotive, the Sedan elegant.”

Also elevating the all-new Mazda3’s driving pleasure is the new SKYACTIV-Vehicle Architecture. Designed to enable people to make the most of their natural sense of balance, the updated SKYACTIV Technology will offer a more comfortable and less tiring drive through innovations in engine, chassis, body, and suspension performance. Thus, interacting with the Mazda3 will bring joy and entice owners to keep driving.

Passengers of the Mazda3 will also relax more with each ride because the car’s motion has been engineered to be congruent with natural human movements. Owning, driving, and spending time with the car will truly be a satisfying experience, further heightening Mazda’s much-praised driving pleasure.

The Mazda3 will also lead the way in riding comfort toward a class-above experience through a combination of design and engineering innovations. Measures were taken to minimize sound and vibrations, and to make any noises transmitted when the road surface changes reach the ears of cabin occupants in a linear fashion. The Mazda3 is set to provide a comfortable quietness by focusing not only on noise volumes but on the time it takes for sounds to be transmitted and the direction from which they arrive.

In line with Mazda’s corporate goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent in 2030, the Mazda3 will lead the way toward the achievement of the company’s “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030” target. Niinai-san adds, “To achieve this goal, we will take a multi-solution approach for each region as we work toward reducing CO2 emissions throughout the car’s life cycle.”

As a core model in the Mazda lineup, the Mazda3 has always reflected the latest advances in the brand’s vehicle engineering and manufacturing. “The all-new Mazda3 is the beginning of our journey toward higher aspirations,” shares Tan. “More than just another nameplate, the Mazda3 has become an important catalyst for innovation and direction for the Mazda brand. Every generation of the Mazda3 has elevated the brand to a higher stature. We believe this new generation will do the same, and even more.”

Bermaz Auto Philippines, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles and parts in the Philippines. Its current product line-up now includes the Mazda2 sub-compact sedan and hatchback, the Mazda3 compact sedan and hatchback, the Mazda6 full-size executive sedan and sports wagon, the CX-3 freestyle crossover, the CX-5 five-seater and the CX-9 seven-seater premium crossovers, the MX-5 2-seater sports roadster and the BT-50 pickup truck. Cusi welcomed the insights of the Consultative Workshop participants to ensure the proper and effective implementation of EE&C once it becomes a law. “EE&C will play an important role in our sustained economic development. Mutya ng Pilipinas Search for the Hometown Girl, It's Their Time to Shine

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Mutya ng Pilipinas is sort of rebranding on its 51st year as they now get the services of celebrity and health and wellness personality plus former Miss World lead Cory Quirino, in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas

With the objective of searching for the Hometown Girl that could come directly from the barangay levels, the challenge of looking for the rightful candidates out of the more than 40k baranggays and trimming it down to a few  30 candidates, or more depending on the search results, would be definitely difficult to achieve.

But knowing Cory Quirino, as evident from her poise, and her smart and intellectually convincing yet realistic answers to the inquiries of the media, we can confidently say that the girls are in good hands especially if she will be on hands-on with the selection and training to groom the candidates and the winners to their finest forms.

Congratulations in advance to our aspiring young ladies as this fair playing field may lead to something new.. We are at that hopeful moment when ladies that are new and inexperienced with regards to beauty pageants could open up new horizons for them as this could mean discovering emerging beauty queens other than those who have already experienced national competitions.

DOE: Use Energy Wisely As World Price Fluctuates

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Recent world events have once again caused the increase of oil prices in the local market. The Department of Energy (DOE) has observed the continuing decline of oil production by members of the Oil Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as well as by countries outside of OPEC.

Saudi Arabia, with its large contribution to world oil supply, has steadily reduced its crude oil production by 336,000 barrels per day (B/D) this March, bringing the total OPEC reduction to around 1.6 million B/D as of March 2019. Further cuts on exported crude oil from Saudi Arabia are expected in April 2019, with the announced reduction of an additional 635,000 B/D.

Actions by the United States, with the imposed sanctions on Venezuela and Iran have also affected world oil prices including the impending Iran export waiver expiring in April, affecting a further reduction of crude oil supply by around 1.1 million B/D. This has already resulted in recent cuts of U.S. oil reserves, causing the overall increase in crude prices.

In the East Asian region, scheduled shutdowns due to the maintenance of oil processing facilities in Japan (JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy) and China (Sinopec) are also expected to contribute in the further reduction of oil supply.

DOE Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said, “The nation, along with the majority of the globe, is facing the realities of socio-political turmoil in oil-producing countries, which, sadly, results in fluctuations of oil prices. I cannot stress enough that, as an oil importing country, our market is susceptible to these effects, and it is up to us as a nation how we handle this challenge.”

ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSUMER POWER OF CHOICE

Meanwhile, Energy Chief reiterated that despite the price adjustments in the world market, the consumers must continue to utilize energy efficiently and exercise their power of choice to enhance more competition in the retail level.

“The retail prices and services per retail station are different. Our consumers must compare the prices and services and choose the retail station that provides the best products and services that suit their needs,” Secretary Cusi explained.

He added, “Everyone must be aware of their respective energy consumption habits and continue to observe an energy efficient lifestyle, whether we have fuel price increases or not.”

“The DOE will continue its oil price and fuel quality monitoring activities,” the Energy Secretary concluded.

E-powered EnerKids

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Energy – Consumer and Welfare Promotion Office (DOE-CWPO) in partnership with the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) conducted an Energy Consumer Education for Students, known as “EnerSmart” on Tuesday (19 March) at the DOE Training Room.

Around 30 Grade 5 EnerKids from the different GSP Councils of Lipa City, Batangas, and Pangasinan attended the lecture to appreciate the value of energy in their everyday lives.

Students were shown various rock samples to illustrate the process of energy resource development. Thereafter, they had the opportunity to visit and explore the lighting and appliance testing, geoscientific research and fuel testing laboratories.

The activity was concluded with the EnerKids’ Pledge of commitment to adopt energy efficiency and conservation measures.

Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi places the EnerSmart program as an important activity of the DOE in order to increase the awareness of younger generation Filipinos on the importance of energy in their lives. “We want our children to participate in public debates on national energy programs and policies,” Sec. Cusi stated.

“Our strategic partnership with the Girl Scouts of the Philippines will accelerate the awareness and will further empower the country's young women and children on energy matters,” Sec. Cusi concluded.

PHL Remains in IMO White List

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippines remains in full compliance with the International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention), 1978, as amended, of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), as signified by the country’s continued inclusion in the “IMO White List.”

The so-called “White List” refers to a list of parties confirmed by the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) to have communicated information that demonstrates the full and complete effect that is given to the relevant provisions of the STCW.

The incontrovertible proof of this compliance is the MSC Circular (MSC.1/Circ.1163/Rev.11) published on 14 December 2018, which categorically includes the Philippines in the list of STCW-compliant parties.

In this regard, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) maintain that reports on the Philippines’ alleged exclusion from the IMO White List are without factual and sufficient basis.

We caution the public against efforts to generate undue panic to the country’s over 400,000 seafarers and their families.

Even as the Philippines’ inclusion in the White List is confirmed, the DOTr-MARINA continues to assure all stakeholders that it is exerting maximum efforts to maintain its status of compliance with IMO standards.

In fact, pursuant to its mandate, the MARINA will be attending the Sixth Session of IMO’s Sub-Committee on HTW on 29 April to 3 May 2019 in London, United Kingdom, as part of the Philippine delegation to bolster our position in the White List.

The DOTr-MARINA bears paramount pride in the world-class qualities of our maritime workforce, and will do its utmost to secure the viability of livelihood of our seafarers.

We remain positive in maintaining our seafarers’ standards of service as a prime reflection of Philippine maritime excellence.
