Buying a New Smartphone at the Globe Online Shop

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I just had the spare time to exploring the Globe Online Shop to look for possible new gadgets for my travel opportunities.

Surprised that there are even apparels avsilable here aside from just the gadgets, accessories, or broadband/postpaid/prepaid plans.

"Whether you’re in the market for a broadband or postpaid plan, or looking for some new clothes and gadgets, this is the place to be. Shop for the latest promos and offers from Globe"

It's a place to hunt for discounts up to 50% off on new prepaid phones, sales, rebates, freebies and some of the best online deals in the Philippines with Globe.

Now tempted to purchase the new Samsung Galaxy S10+. It's available for P1499 per month with a cashout of P31200...and free shipping! or an option to picknit up from a Globe Store.

My total order is P32699.

After clicking on checkout, I was taken to the application page to choose whether it's a new postpaid or an additional line, and to fill up other personal information like name, email address and contact number. Even additional information and employment details.

And lastly was the shipping and payment details. However, the only options for payments are COD, Debit, Credit Card, or GCash. They should add Paypal payments since it's the universally accepted payment for all my online transactions with clients from different parts of the country, thus the bulk of my money is in Paypal.

Continuing, they will also ask you to upload certain documents like proofs of identification, billing address and financial capability.

The online portal is an innovative alternative to apply for the new phone line since it saves you from the hassle of physically being there at their stores though, as mentioned earlier, they should add more payment facility to maximize sale opportunities especially for those like us who live and breathe (transact, haggle, pitch, propose, counter-offer, etc) dealing with clients in the online or virtually connected world.

However, I believe expanding the payment options will be one of the futute plans for the site. Ibtrust that they've already considered that option along with other developments.

Cusi Firm on Review of ECs to Achieve Lasting Solutions

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi today emphasized the unwavering resolve of the Department to look into the issues plaguing electric cooperatives (ECs), and create the appropriate long-term solutions that would enable them to afford their customers the best services.

Sec. Cusi said, "We have to do the right thing for our country at all times. We cannot turn a blind eye to the pressing need for improved access and quality electricity services in some parts of the Philippines."

"We understand that there will be parties who might resist the required reforms. However, as public officials, we cannot and should not be deterred by any threat that aims to derail us from performing our duties to the Filipino people," he stressed.

The Secretary added that the cooperation and inputs of ECs are crucial to the successful resolution of the deep-seated problems besetting cooperatives for many years.

"We continue to ask the ECs and their leadership not to politicize this process, which only seeks to transform the state of electrification in the country to foster growth needed to significantly improve the lives of our countrymen," Sec. Cusi concluded.

FEU Film Wins at Singkuwento as Festival Goes to UP

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A short film which tells the story of a woman fighting her own battles and trying to overcome her fears, won Best Cinematography at the recently concluded Singkuwento International Film Festival awards night held at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Theater/Tanghalang Leandro V. Locsin.

“Ang Huling Bucketlist,” written and directed by Bibo Ebuen, was also nominated for Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Original Musical Score, Best Original Theme Song and Best Actress (Larissa Louise Alivio), in the event which is part of the National Arts Month celebration.

Assistant director Kate Lauren Restua received the award on behalf of Cinco Productions director of photography Rosa Mina Olan. The rest of the team is made up of Charmae Carambas, Stephanie Mae Mercado, Shaina Carandang, Angelica Virgilio, Japz Tacuyan, Jasmin Sellado, Mariel Torrejos and Angelo Angcaya. They made the film as a final requirement for their Cinema 2 class at Far Eastern University.

“Through the art of filmmaking as a powerful medium to mirror society, ‘Ang Huling Bucketlist’ has been able to raise people’s awareness and give hope to those who can relate to the story. Making this film would not have been possible without the full commitment of my production team,” Ebuen said.

The short film will again be screened together with fellow Singkuwento winners Belle Kay Loyola’s “Dalit,” Maggie Lirio’s and Therese Bayabo’s “Kung ‘di Man Dumating ang Gabi,” Maricel Cariaga’s “Limang Oras” and Tim Rone Villanueva’s “Paano Bihisan ang Isang Ina” on March 13 and 19, 9 p.m. at the UP Videotheque (back of Cine Adarna), when the film festival goes to UP Diliman this month.

Two other works from FEU alumni, which they made outside the university, also bagged awards in different categories. “Liwanag” by Arby and Christine Laraño won Jury Prize and Best Directors in the documentary category. It will be shown with three other documentaries on March 11, 4 p.m. and March 16, 9 p.m. at the UP Videotheque. Meanwhile, “Bisperas” by Ralph Lauren Quincena (Sinepanghalina) brought home the Audience Choice Award. The short film, which also made it as a finalist to Sinag Maynila 2019, will be screened with four other works on March 11, 5:30 p.m., and March 18, 9 p.m.

The other FEU finalists from the 25 short films which competed during the week-long Singkuwento festival are “Apo-Dios” by Victor Elijah Gador (Cine Mabuya Films), “Dama” by Trisha Marie Antonio (SineGang Films) and “Kumari” by Angela Aguila and One Carlo Diaz (Dream Developers Studios).

Presented by MPJ Entertainment Productions in cooperation with the NCCA, Asian Television Content Corporation and Film Development Council of the Philippines, Singkuwento aims to feature works of various Filipino and foreign filmmakers.

“It is an avenue for Filipinos both here and abroad to share their voice, sentiments and thoughts via the films they have created. It is also the festival’s aim to provide a channel for non-Filipinos to share their impressions of the Philippines and its people,” festival director, filmmaker and actor Perry Escaño said.

The official selection, according to Escaño, is “a collection of films which explore topics ranging from the youth to personal relationships, from growing up to death, and other thought-provoking social issues.”

The short film competition jury is composed of award-winning director Zig Dulay, FDCP Executive Director Will Fredo and producer-filmmaker Albert Almendralejo.

15 Things You Didn't Know About Coupon and Promo Codes

Wazzup Pilipinas!

When it comes to coupon and promo codes, many people have a basic and rather twisted understanding. For instance, while some people will seldom make a purchase before finding a coupon offer, others believe that things like extreme couponing are a complete waste of time.

Today, we hope to put all that to rest and help you understand the topic better. To achieve this, here is a quick overview of 15 things you didnt know about coupons and promo codes.

1. Promo codes and coupons are two different things
Many people allude to the fact that the two terms mean one and the same thing. However, they couldn't be further from the truth. A coupon refers to an image given that can be redeemed for discounts while a promo code is a computer-generated code used to get discounts on items and orders.

2. Some stores allow two promotional codes in one order

Once in a while, you will come across two amazing deals like 30% off your order plus free shipping. Though many stores will limit you to using only one code per order, a good number will let you use both.

3. Promo codes fall into 4 categories

These are the following:

  1. A $$ off order: This code lets a specific dollar amount be snipped off your shop
  2. A % offer: This code gives you a certain percentage off your order
  3. Free products: This offers you something extra alongside your order
  4. A delivery offer: This code gives you free delivery on your order

4. Some codes are case sensitive

You might have realized your codes dont work when you used small caps. This is because some are case-sensitive. To avoid any trouble, always copy paste codes before using them.

5. Certain retailers limit the use of codes by location

Although this is not a regular problem, some merchants work within country borderlines.

6. Coupons and promo codes have expiry dates

Dont hold to your coupons or promo codes forever; they all have expiry dates after which they wont work. The exact validity period can be found on their terms and conditions page.

7. Some codes wont work for certain sale stock and brands

Again, this information can be found on the coupon and promo codes terms and conditions.

8. Promo codes can no be used if wrongly activated

If your code doesnt respond, call the retailer and have them confirm whether they have been activated on their end.

9. Most promo codes have a minimum purchase

The minimum cost refers to the cost of actual items in the order that qualifies you for the discount. You have to meet this minimum before using the promo code.

10. Some retailers hide the redeem option on their payment process

Often, you will see a redeem or use option during the payment process. When you click on it, you will need to enter the code at the checkout stage. Beware as some stores hide this last step hence forcing you to do more research on how to use the code.

11. Both can be found on merchant websites

Sure, the best place to find coupon and promo codes is email newsletters and retail blog posts but a few merchants also hide them on their websites

12. They can also be found in the wild

Apart from mailing newsletters and merchant websites, coupons and promo codes can also be dug out from online resources.

13. Retailers use coupon and promo codes as an incentive

Were you perturbed by how nice the customer care rep was when you asked him to activate your code? It is simply because the store actually wants you to hurry and shop there.

14. Promo codes can help track ROI

If you want to keep track of your ROI, use promo codes. Since they generate barcodes and QR codes, you can monitor the interactions between customers and promotions.

15. Codes help limit participation during promotions

Codes are invaluable if you want to limit the number of participants in your upcoming promotion or if you intend to share the discounts with a few users.

There you have it: 15 things you didnt know about coupon and promo codes. Hopefully, weve put a few things in perspective with regards to saving money using coupons and promo codes.

Rene Catalan Brims With Confidence In Tough Bout Against Former Champion

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In a few days, Rene “The Challenger” Catalan is set for the biggest battle of his career in ONE Championship.

The 40-year-old Iloilo native is wrapping up the most rigorous training camp he has ever had as he takes on former ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito at ONE: REIGN OF VALOR, which emanates from the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium at Yangon, Myanmar this Friday, 8 March.

Knowing what is at stake in the contest, Catalan is leaving no stones unturned as he puts his five-match winning streak on the line against the submission wizard like Naito.

“Definitely, this is the toughest and biggest match of my career,” he stressed.

“Naito is a former World Champion, well-experienced and we all know how dangerous he is on the mat, but I’m confident with my skills and I will do whatever it takes to win and get my title shot.”

The battle between the two is another classic striker versus grappler match-up with Catalan getting the advantage on the feet being a multiple-time Wushu World Champion himself.

Naito, on other hand, will expectedly be looking to turn this into a grappling match-up as the bout will expectedly tilt to the Japanese’s favor the moment it hits the ground.

When that happens, Catalan vows to be ready.

“For the past few months, I’ve been focusing on my ground game, especially with my takedown defense with the help of our Philippine and SEA Games wrestling champ Roque Verangel Mana-ay Jr,” he bared.

“This is definitely one of the best camps I had, which is just in time for the most important match of my career.”

After starting with two loss in ONE Championship, Catalan is just a stone’s throw away from reaching his ultimate goal of winning a World Title.

Standing in his way is Naito, who looks to redeem himself after relinquishing the ONE Strawweight World Championship to Joshua “The Passion” Pacio in their September 2018 rematch.

Catalan made a promise to do everything he can to go past the former World Champion from Japan.

“I’ve been training for these kinds of guys for so long, and I’ve been training hard almost everyday.” he stated.

“I feel good and confident about this match. I will win in Yangon and put myself closer to my dream of becoming a World Champion.”

Jomary Torres’ Coach Confident In Claiming Impressive Win In Yangon

Wazzup Pilipinas!

If Catalan Fighting System head coach Rene Catalan is to be believed, then his warrior in Jomary Torres needs to step up more than ever.

Torres absorbed consecutive decision losses in her last two outings, putting her on a virtual must-win match when she takes on China’s Lin Heqin at ONE: REIGN OF VALOR this Friday, 8 March at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

Knowing how damaging a third-straight loss would be for his ward, Catalan hopes to see the Torres of old, the one who won three consecutive matches to open her campaign in ONE Championship.

"She has to be explosive and impressive in her upcoming fight. We cannot afford to have a third consecutive defeat,” he said as Torres suffered decision losses to Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol and former ONE World Title contender Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi to end 2018.

But if there is one reason to be hopeful for Catalan, it is the fact that they are going to finish this training camp seamlessly without any hiccups, major or minor.

Catalan shared that “The Zamboanginian Fighter” had to prepare with ankle issues in the past, something that they finally avoided for this contest.

"Our training went well this time around, unlike her last couple of fights when she had problems with her ankle," he bared.

Now that he was successful in preparing Torres physically, Catalan will have to focus on getting Torres’ confidence back.

It is not easy, especially coming from consecutive losses, but Catalan was happy to see that Torres’ head is in the right place heading into this critical match-up.

"I told her to take those losses as a learning experience, and that we must properly execute our game plan moving forward,” he stated.

“She was in high spirits even after losing. Everything I tell her she absorbs.”

Now that they have that out of the way, it is now a matter of getting things done in the cage.

"We might go for a stoppage in this fight. We are prepared to do everything,” he stated. “We already have a game plan that only needs to be followed."

DOTr: MRT-3 Rehab Not Delayed

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) wishes to clarify that the Japan-funded MRT-3 Rehabilitation Project is NOT DELAYED.

Rehabilitation and maintenance service provider Sumitomo Corporation, together with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), started advance transition works as early as November 2018.

Following the signing of a Rehabilitation and Maintenance Agreement (RMA) with the DOTr last December 28, Sumitomo-MHI started mobilizing advance engineering teams to MRT-3, and in February, started advance procuring of tracks, train parts, and other components necessary for the comprehensive rehabilitation of MRT-3.

To clarify earlier reports, what is currently pending is DOTr's advance payment to Sumitomo under the RMA, due to the pendency of the enactment of the 2019 General Appropriations Act, or the national budget, which is the funding source for the MRT-3 Rehabilitation Project.

Fortunately, despite the pendency of the advance payment, trust and confidence in the DOTr led to Sumitomo agreeing to advance the purchase of major components for the rehabilitation, which included rail tracks and train parts for the general overhaul of the MRT-3's 72 train cars or bagons.

Because of this, the rehabilitation of MRT-3 is still on track to completing in 26 months.

Under the project, the MRT-3 will undergo rehabilitation and maintenance of its electromechanical components, power supply, rail tracks, depot equipment, and overhaul of its 72 light rail vehicles.

Once rehabilitated, the MRT-3 will return to its high-grade infrastructure condition. It will increase the number of its operating train sets from the current 15 to 20 at peak hours, double the train operating speed to 60 kilometers per hour, and slash by half the time between trains from the current 7-10 minutes down to 3.5 minutes.

Three Reasons Why Filipinos Need To Watch ONE: REIGN OF VALOR

Wazzup Pilipinas!

ONE Championship will once again make its return to Yangon, Myanmar on Friday, 8 March for ONE: REIGN OF VALOR at the iconic Thuwunna Indoor Stadium.

While all of the Filipino champions are scheduled in ONE: A NEW ERA, there are still plenty of reasons for local martial arts from the Philippines to tune-in and enjoy another loaded match card.

Here are just three main reasons why ONE: REIGN OF VALOR is a must-see.

Rene Catalan’s path to desired ONE World Title shot

Rene “The Challenger” Catalan’s amazing run in the talent-filled strawweight division is something that cannot be overlooked anymore.

After losing his first two matches in ONE Championship, Catalan finally found his rhythm and is now riding high on a five-match winning streak.

Standing in his way is former ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, who undoubtedly poses to be the ultimate test to Catalan’s World Title aspirations.

It will be a classic striker-versus-grappler affair, but Catalan has shown tremendous improvement when it comes to grappling in his previous matches.

At age 40, Catalan shows no signs of slowing down, and if he keeps his pace, then the next Filipino World Champion could very well come from the Catalan Fighting System.

Road to redemption of Jomary Torres

Jomary Torres is an exciting young Filipina who burst into the organization’s stacked women’s atomweight scene with three consecutive victories.

She may be on a slump as of late following consecutive decision losses to Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaul and Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi, but those define does not ultimately define her as a mixed martial arts competitor.

Admittedly struggling to ankle issues in her past bouts, Torres has completed her training camp in tip-top condition and is raring to go back to her winning ways.

Given that her back is against the wall, Torres vows to be aggressive as she cannot afford to lose her third-straight match.

While her opponent in Lin Heqin is known for her willingness to stand and trade, this match has the potential to steal the whole show.

Zebaztian Kadestam’s first ONE World Title defense
Headlining the blockbuster event is knockout artist Zebaztian Kadestam as he defends his ONE Welterweight World Title against surging submission wizard Georgiy Kichigin. With World Title gold on the line, the stakes could not be higher in this classic clash of styles.

Kadestam put everyone on notice when he knocked out erstwhile-unbeaten American Tyler McGuire last November to be crowned as the ONE Welterweight World Champion.

His win over McGuire was Kadestam’s ninth knockout victory, making him one of the most fearsome competitors in the whole organization.

Kichigin, on the other hand, is a grappling wizard who is coming into ONE Championship on 14-match winning streak, with his last victory coming against another submission artist in Rousimar Palhares.

With two world-class talents bannering the card, there is no reason for Filipino martial arts fans to miss this event.

Kuya Kim Atienza Renews Contract with Baron Antenna and Signs New Contract with Kent Water Purifier

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Everyone knows that Kuya Kim Atienza took over the iconic TV personality Ernie Baron...but Kim Atienza's initial purpose in getting TV exposure was not really intended for that purpose.

For those who are not aware, Kim Atienza is the son of politician Lito Atienza, known more as the former Mayor of Manila. They were actually grooming Kim to become next in line to the father. Thus, the stint on television was merely to give the son exposure on TV.

However, Kim had a change of heart as he has seen how the public accepted him as Kuya Kim, the knowledgeable personality that aside from giving the daily weather, also provided trivia bits and not just about animals and other creatures, but also about almost everything, just like the late Ernie Baron, known as the walking encyclopedia....and Filipinos truly welcomed and loved his equally endearing style. ...thus earning him a place in the hearts of the people.

The renewal of endorsement for Baron Antenna is therefore not really a surprise as who wouldn't want to work with Kuya Kim whom the public believes as a credible endorser.

Antennas are still being used by a lot of people especially those in the provinces or areas where cable TV is not that available. The TV plus may be clear enough for Metro Manila, but at those areas where signal or reception is not that clear, the Baron antenna will supposedly improve the display. But this is again subject to actual testing. We're using a TV plus at our bliss residence in Pasig so maybe if I have an opportunity to get a unit, I could try to check if the antenna does improve the reception.

The new contract with Kent Healt Care Systems water purifier is likewise aporoved with thumbs up since aside from everyone really needs an alternative to the more expensive distilled, filtered, purified, mineral water we buy from water stations, it is also a convenience to just have it accessible within our own homes. I believe the almost 5k retail price is just small compared to the long-term benefits it will provide. The 1k priced consumable to be replaced on a yearly basis is also so small a price. We can safely say that their prices are very affordable even for the low income households.

Now, the effectivity is again another story. Thus, I am really hoping they will provide a unit fir review so we could try it at home.

Below are the official press releases of the contract signing event:

FROM KA ERNIE TO KUYA KIM: THE LEGACY OF BARON ANTENNA LIVES ON

#kuyakim4baron #baronantennaph

Just as the famous “Walking Encyclopedia of the Philippines” Ernie Baron imparted knowledge to his listeners and viewers during his time as a broadcaster and TV Personality, the Baron Antenna also endeavors to be a reliable instrument of learning by providing Filipino Homes with clear reception to one of the more common medium of communication and information in the Philippines; the television.

With the beginning of 2019, ADTEL once again entrusts this advocacy to Kim Atienza, this generation’s “Trivia King” and host of the hit science-environmental educational show, “Matanglawin”, and Ernie Baron’s successor.

Initially conceptualized for the purpose of enhancing the television experience of Filipinos, it was not long before the true potential of Baron Antenna was realized. More than provide better entertainment, Baron Antenna could give people better access to the most effective communication tool in the Philippines before the Internet Boom: Television Broadcast. Thus, in 2003, the Baron Super Antenna was officially distributed by ADTEL INC under the Channel Distribution Department. The public responded to it so well that the year after, it won National Shopper’s Choice Award.

Following the overwhelming success of the Baron Super Antenna, other varieties of the product were developed, especially taking into account the mixed geographic composition of the country. In 2005, Kapamilya Gitnang Luzon or KGL, was launched as the go-to antenna for homes in the countryside. The Baron Extended Range Antenna, capable of receiving television signal even in the most remote of location in the Philippines, was made available in 2006.

From then on, Baron Antenna has continued to reach milestone after milestone as it grows to be a household name:

2009 : Baron Antenna sold 1 Million units

2015: Baron Receiver Link (BRL) Antenna, the first-of-its-kind digital antenna in the Philippines, hit the shelves

2017: The Power Bundle is introduced, combining the ABS-CBN TVPlus Digital Box and BRL Digital Antenna in one convenient and affordable package.

As of December 2018, ADTEL Inc., already distributed 3.5 Million Baron Antenna in more than 5,000 retail outlets NATIONWIDE.

Moreover, BARON Antenna is now being manufactured in a PEZA-accredited plant in Laguna, ensuring that only high quality products are delivered to the customers.

Baron Antenna is committed to give consumers new and innovative products that are technologically up-to-date yet affordable and durable. Just like Ka Ernie Baron, who gave his name to the brand, and Kuya Kim Atienza, who lent his image to it, Baron Antenna hopes to improve the lives of Filipinos by providing high quality television experience.

#kuyakim4kent #kentph

2019 marks the year that the Trivia King, Kim Atienza becomes the face of KENT in the Philippines. Aside from being the successor of Ernie Baron, the Walking Encyclopedia of the Philippines, Kuya Kim is also famous as an advocate of good and healthy living. Survivor, Father, and Athlete, Kuya Kim has proven again and again that age is just a number and it’s never too late to start improving one’s life.

Is it any wonder why he has been chosen as the image of KENT Philippines, whose principal brand is a leader in healthcare products across the globe?

KENT offers a large variety of water purifiers and other healthcare products, each a result of intensive research and represents cutting-edge technology. Their gravity-based water purifiers, in particular, are equipped with Superior Ultra Filtration Technology. This technology not only makes it possible for the gravity-based water purifiers to operate without electricity, but also, completely makes for a chemical-free purification. The hollow fibre hydrophilic UF membrane with a pore size of 0.1 microns ensures that no micro-organisms such as bacteria and cysts pass through it, ensuring 100% microbe-free water without the use of chemicals like Chlorine, Bromine or Iodine.

With ADTEL Inc., whose advocacy is to improve the lives of Filipinos through modern technology, KENT water purifiers are now made available to Filipinos, who are becoming more aware and concerned about the quality of water coming from their taps and are turning to water purifiers for their supply of drinking water.

KENT Gold+

KENT Gold+ has an elegant table top design that can be placed on any flat surface. Its Tank-in-Tank configuration ensures that there is no overflow when water is poured into raw water tank even when the purified water tank is full. It is also this smart design that makes it possible for KENT Gold+ to have a remarkably high water-holding capacity; 10 litres of purified water storage capacity and an additional 10 liters in the raw water tank, ensuring continuous supply of purified water.

KENT Crystal
Just like KENT Gold+, KENT Crystal is also a gravity based water purifier that operates without electricity and does not use any chemicals such as chlorine, bromine or iodine for purification. MARINA to Shipping Operators: Uphold Passengers' Rights at All Times

Wazzup Pilipinas!

To intensify and ensure the protection of the public against inefficient shipping services, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) reminds shipping operators to uphold passengers rights at all times, especially in cases of cancelled, delayed, or uncompleted voyages.

The MARINA clearly established the rights of passengers in cases of cancelled, delayed, or uncompleted voyages through MARINA Circular No. 2018-07 addressed to all owners and operators of inter-island passenger liner ships.

In the MARINA Circular, the agency emphasized that all passengers of a cancelled or delayed trip have the right to information, right to refund or revalidation of ticket, right to amenities, and right to compensation.

Trips are considered cancelled if it has been called off to more than 24 hours from the scheduled departure or to an indefinite date and time. This also covers trips where passengers have been denied boarding due to overbooking or errors in booking.

If the voyage involved late departure from the point of origin resulting to late arrival in the port of destination not exceeding 24 hours from the scheduled departure or arrival of the ship, it is considered delayed.

Moreover, the passengers of an uncompleted voyage or any trip that commenced but failed to reach its port of destination have the right to information, right to comparable transport to intended destination or to a place nearest thereto, right to amenities, and right to compensation.

However, the MARINA noted that these rights are absolutely applicable to passengers only if the cancelled, delayed, or uncompleted voyage is caused by the shipping operator. These are not applicable if the unfortunate event is caused by the passengers themselves.

Also, some rights have relative application. The right to amenities and the right to compensation apply only if the cancellation, delay, or non-completion of the voyage is attributable to the operator. These do not apply if it is of passenger’s fault or there were extraordinary circumstances that occurred such as port traffic / congestion or receipt of orders from competent authorities. It will also not apply if the cause is a fortuitous event like a natural calamity or any incident involving government intervention.

Furthermore, the right to refund or revalidation of ticket applies for both cancelled and delayed voyages regardless of the cause, including extraordinary circumstance or fortuitous event. The only exception is if it is of passenger’s fault.

Finally, the right to comparable transport only applies to cases of uncompleted voyages, even if the event is caused by a fortuitous event.

The passengers are encouraged to refer to the whole text of the MARINA Circular 2018-07 for complete details on these rights and on the circumstances entitling them to exercise or avail of such rights. It may be accessed via this link: https://marina.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MC-2018-07.pdf

The public is further encouraged to report non-compliance to MARINA Circular 2018-007 by filing a complaint to the nearest MARINA office for appropriate action.

If found guilty of non-compliance, the shipping operator will be fined P 100,000 for each voyage for the first offense; P 200,000 for each voyage and a five-day suspension of operations for the second offense; and P 300,000 for each voyage and a ten-day suspension of operations for the third offense.

Initial complaints may be sent to the MARINA’s Enforcement Service (ES) via mobile number: 0995-400-7336 or email address: es@marina.gov.ph

The Araneta Center Celebrates Women’s Month

Wazzup Pilipinas!
As part of the celebration of the International Women’s Month, the Araneta Center and SPARK! Philippines launched on March 1 the #DontTellMeHowToDress Exhibit at the Gateway Mall.

The exhibit, which is the centerpiece of the "Respeto Naman" campaign, showcases clothes worn by women (and even children!) when they experienced gender-based violence in various settings - at home, in school, at the workplace, in the community.

“According to a report by the Center for Women’s Resources in 2017, Philippine Police records show that 1 Filipino woman or child is raped every hour in this country,” said Ambassador Harald Fries of the Embassy of Sweden.

“At the heart of the "Respeto Naman" campaign is the message of the importance about respect – respect for women’s basic human right for body ownership and respect for safe spaces for women regardless of their line of work, what they are wearing, where they are, or who they are. Nothing can ever justify harassment, violence, or rape,” explained Fries.

“I think it is particularly appropriate to have this exhibit here in Quezon City where the gender and development ordinance against catcalling and other forms of sexual harassment was passed in 2016 – the first among the cities in Metro Manila,” Fries added.

The clothes displayed at the "Don't Tell Me How to Dress" Exhibit are ordinary everyday outfits, which were worn by survivors when they were sexually harassed and assaulted. The exhibit aims to “transform the idea among misconception that it’s the surivors’ fault for sexual harassment, sexual abuse for what they wear,” explained Iori Kato, country representative of the United Nations Population Fund.

“Sexual harassment, sexual abuse is never, never the fault of the survivor,” Kato emphasized. “Stop the victim-blaming. Let’s put the blame on who should be blamed – the perpetrator!” he added.

“The "Don't Tell Me How To Dress" Exhibit reminds everyone what people wear should never justify harassment and rape,” Fries concluded.

The "Don't Tell Me How To Dress" Exhibit at the Gateway Mall is open to the public from March 1 to 8. It is part of “FilipinAmazing: Honoring Filipino Women at the Araneta Center,” a series of activities focusing on women empowerment.

Aside from the exhibit, the Araneta Center also held the “Neon Fitness Party” at the Manhattan Row last March 2. “Through the Neon Fitness Party, we are given the opportunity to work out together towards achieving our fitness goals! I believe that helping women to stay fit is one way to uplift them,” said Karen Gallman, first Filipina to bring home the Miss Intercontinental crown.

Women’s Bazaar will then be held at the Gateway Mall from March 15 to 17 to promote artisanal Pinay-made items. The bazaar will highlight the products made by women from Spark-sponsored communities, including those from Marawi.

“Filipinamazing: Honoring Filipino Women” is made possible by the Araneta Center, SPARK! Philippines, Novotel, Pizza Hut, Flawless, Ever Bilena, and Rustans.

5 Reasons Why Filipinos Obsess About Love

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Prepare to be obsessed with a new short film about love, falling in love, falling out of love, and everything else in between as a new Filipino short indie film is soon to take over the internet.

When it comes to the idea of love, Filipinos seem to be quite addicted, with no cure in sight.  It is a mysterious drug that either injects feelings of euphoria or cuts sharply like a double-edged sword.  Oddly, the more it hurts, the more we are drawn to it.  And in between falling in love and getting hurt, Filipinos love a good “hugot.”

Jollibee has mastered the art of hugot with its series on love and heartbreak and love all over again.  On its heels is a new production by Blade Auto Center called 12 Days to Destiny.

So if the journey of a thousand miles, according to a Chinese proverb, begins with a simple step, the destiny to love can happen in only 12 days.  Indeed, love presents so many complications that some never make it to the end of that journey, and with that comes the bittersweet memories we sometimes hold on to.

And these #bitterness and #hugot moments told through the lens of director JC Santos is what makes the 12 Days to Destiny series an obsession.

Daniel, portrayed by Akihiro Blanco of the recent indie hit, Born Beautiful, will trigger your romantic desires while Kathryn, played by Mary Joy Apostol of Bird Shot, currently playing on Netflix, will flame your hidden passions.

12 Days starts off with boy meets girl, boy likes girl, and both go through a series of “kilig” moments and emotional rollercoasters.  Sounds like the typical story, right?  Well, almost all love stories begin like this, as we have seen in classics like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Titanic’s Rose and Jack, and dates even as far back to Samson and Delilah.

What makes 12 Days worth waiting for is that we have another glimpse of kilig moments and hugot factors reimagined in only 12 days.  Most of the scenes take place at Blade Auto Center where Daniel, a certified automobile enthusiast who works there,  meets Kathryn, a customer who was only looking for an item.  A love triangle ensues, personal goals become obstacles, and the characters must discover what is most important to them.

In short, 12 Days helps us understand why Filipinos have an obsession with everything about love.  We become so invested in emotions that we either want to feel loved or be loved in return.  So here are five things that Filipinos obsess about love:

  • Hugot moments make us realize that we are still human.
  • Kilig moments make us feel how exhilarating  it is to be in love.
  • Bitter moments make us think that life has so much more to give.
  • There-is-no-forever moments make us want to fall in love all over again.
  • Forever moments make us realize that there is someone out there for us.

And that is what 12 Days to Destiny does to us.  It makes us love love even more.  Streaming soon on Youtube and Facebook, this gem of a short film also stars Xander Pineda, Carissa Viaje, Jansien Altamarino, and Tracy Thunder.  According to Robert S. Tan, founder of Blade Auto Center and the film’s producer, they will continue to make short films for everyone to enjoy and will select various actors that suit the roles.
