Porn Site Blocked by Philippine Government?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In a previously published report, the Philippines is said to be #1 in the world for the time spent watching porn at pornhub.com. Filipinos spent an average of 12 minutes, 45 seconds per visit at the site.

Now there are reports that the porn site has been blocked by the government. To verify if it is true, I tried accessing the site but I was still able to access it. I'm using a PLDT Home account.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has also not issued any notice about it, and the blocked site(s) in question state that the move is in accordance with Republic Act No. 9775, or the anti-child pornography law. Huh? I thought all the porn actors there are 18 and above.

"A blanket block of porn sites is unconstitutional if the purpose is to filter child porn. And to begin with, the host countries of these sites (United States and others) don't allow child porn so they're already regulated. All porn state that their models are 18 and above." - Jesus Falcis

"So, days after PornHub releases its annual rankings that inadvertently show just how slow our Internet is (length of stay unchanged), the government has blocked it for violating child pornography laws.

I mean I'd understand if other law enforcement agencies took action against PornHub for child pornography but it seems we went against PornHub alone.

The PornHub network's stock in trade is the marketing of pornography. You'd have to be illiterate not to understand that. As a major player in the porn industry, it needs to get into as many markets as possible. That means it has a very pressing reason to comply with anti-child pornography laws. For that reason, children are not in the PornHub categories. Also, while the market taste has shifted, companies do explicitly state that they are portrayed by actors of legal age.

I know you wankers spend time on the site; we're 14th in worldwide rankings. There are human trafficking issues there for which no action has been taken, against the individual violators. It makes me wonder what the priorities are.

On the other hand (pun unintended), the anti-child pornography law is intended to catch the darkweb trade in child pornography that gets guys like Jared Fogle (the erstwhile Subway spokesperson). If you use one to catch the other, that reeks of taking unwarranted shortcuts. That worries me the most." - Francis Euston Acero
