PH IT-BPM Industry Continues to Flourish with a Projected US$40B Revenue by 2022

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) foresees continuous growth for the country’s IT and Business Process Management Industry (IT-BPM) due to local and global business expansion. The IT-BPM, known as the local “sunshine industry”, is recognized for its world-class service, contributing to 10% of the economy and providing jobs for over a million Filipinos. With consistent annual revenue growth of US$18.9B in 2014, US$21.2B in 2015, and an expected US$25B by the end of this year, IBPAP predicts that the IT-BPM industry will achieve up to US$40B by year 2022.

IBPAP held its 8th International IT-BPM Summit (IIS) to celebrate the consistency of the IT-BPM’s success in the Philippines and to map out plans for the industry’s future. Promoting the theme, “Accelerate PH, Future-ready”, the summit gathered top influencers, industry representatives, and partners including co-presentor Globe Business, to discuss the strategies that will further expand the industry’s growth both locally and internationally.

The 8th IIS kicked off its two-day event with the launch of Roadmap 2022, which enabled partner associations and technical working groups to talk about its framework. Roadmap 2022 aims to accelerate IT-BPM’s future revenue by focusing on key subsectors such as contact centers & BPOs, health information management, IT & software development, animation/game development, and global in-house centers affected by the industry and on high-impact programs for certain segments. These include human capital, government support, inclusive growth, country competitiveness, SME and startups, as well as emerging technologies.

Globe Telecom’s very own Vice President for Content for Consumer Business Group, Jil Bausa-Go, served as a plenary speaker during the summit to discuss how IT-BPM companies can accelerate their services by maximizing the client experience through technology. In her speech, Jil highlights on how customer engagement and support should take on a personal approach even with technological and cultural changes. In fact, she emphasizes that such an approach is presently in demand, adding, "We, as customers do not just want to absorb messages. We want to be a part of it. It’s important that we take advantage of our technology’s speed to make it easier to connect with clients and to remain their principal choice."

To top off the IIS, IBPAP distributed its Flare Awards 2016 to members who displayed innovation and continue to inspire their industry and community. Globe Business, the enterprise information and communications arm of Globe Telecom, took part in the awarding ceremony by presenting the Shift 2016 Awards. Participants of the contest had to come up with a concept in the form of a vision board and story of inspiration, which showcased a future-ready IT-BPM industry by the year 2022.

“Technology has undoubtedly brought about an acceleration of change. But with this change comes uncertainty and, of course, challenges. What we asked of the candidates for the award was that they reveal to us not just how they will ride on the future’s changes, but how they will become drivers of change for the future,” Mike Frausing—Globe Senior Advisor for Enterprise and IT Enabled Services Group—mentioned before awarding the contestants.

For third place, Yondu, Inc.'s Jaime Bargan Jr. and Eliza Vanessa Villapando were given a cash prize of Php40,000. The award for second place, along with a prize amounting to Php60,000, were received by Converga Asia, Inc.'s Warner Doroja Jr., Sherry Ann Sambas, John Robby Corleo See, and Arvin Paguipo, while the first place and grand prize of PHP100,000 were awarded to Hinduja Global Solutions' Apurva Vora, Gaurav Banga, Anna Ruth Navalta, and Ray Carlo Villanueva.
