16th Grand Wine Experience: We Keep Coming Back Because It Always Gets Better

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Congratulations to the Joseph brothers of Philippine Wine Merchants for the Grand Wine Experience for another success on their sweet 16th run held on November 4, 2016 at the fabulous and equally grand Marriott Hotel Manila in Pasay city.

At a bigger space, you can't imagine that the ballroom would be filled with so much people that were all excited to taste the more than 500 wines, beers and other spirits, plus the amazing buffet spread of tasty dishes lavishly displayed all over the grand ballroom. Sumptuous culinary treats were at everyone's easy reach courtesy of the chefs and crew of Marriott Hotel Manila led by Executive Chef Meik Brammer.

The event started with the attendees having chill time with white wines at the red carpeted halls leading to the main ballroom while everyone waited for the grand ballroom event venue to open its doors. Live music was also playing on stage to complete the mood, and then host of the night greeted everyone to officially start the event. Finally he led everyone in to the grand ballroom where everyone was amazed with the spectacular wine choices and buffet spreads.

The program continued after a few minutes of the attendees already engaged with eh wines and food offerings. The Joseph brothers held a welcome toasts for all on stage as many were already busy with their wine tasting and buffet dinner. Robert Lim Joseph, Chairman of Philippine Wine Merchants said a few messages including the announcement about the partnership with the Department of Tourism making the Grand Wine Experience another tourism attraction that will include visits at the different destination of the country. He also announced the very first issue of the Grand Wine magazine which featured Ralph Lim Joseph on the cover.

The most fun is that everything seems to be unlimited inspite of the numerous people who attended the event. The peeps from Marriott keeps replenishing their glorious assortment of food from the shrimps to the cheeses, sausages, breads, etc., except for the humongous cauldrons or pots of Pork Ravioli and Thai Curry which were already probably too much to consume all in one night.

Everyone enjoyed outstanding vintages, rare wines from the producers’ cellars and top-scoring wines from around the world. The Grand Wine Experience has become a must for wine lovers for a chance to taste the benchmark wines of the world and discover new favorites. It was probably many people's nth Grand Wine Experience but they were there because they love wines, and they keep coming back because it always gets better.

Then when you thought the highlights were all revealed, out comes a surprise from the ceiling, actually two surprises from both ends of the ballroom where marvelous chocolate buffet spreads shaped like the rice terraces were lowered down to the amazement of the crowd. I literally ran towards one so I can be among the first to see the creativity of the chefs of Marriott.

Marriott's Executive Chef Meik Brammer announced the surprise coming from the ceiling from both ends of the grand ballroom - chocolate dessert buffet galore shaped like the rice terraces, and sponsored by the DOT and Philippine Airlines.

Wines were chilled and ready for drinking - unlimited wines, beers and other spirits until 1 am ...or was it 3 am? says SJ Huh of Nissan with the Nissan Juke proudly displayed inside the ballroom as well.

Aside form wines there were also liquors from popular Filipino brand like Don Papa Rum, Beers from Corona and Stella Artois,  whiskies from Dalmore, cognacs from Hennessy, and a lot more.

We also got a special video message from Robi Joseph, the son of Robert Lim Joseph, Chairman of Philippine Wine Merchants. Robi is the third generation of Joseph, and aside from being one of the Directors of the company, he is soon to be next in line for the top management, and is also a part of a group called the Akafellas - an acappella or vocal group composed of only men, but surely admired and drooled over by women.

It was still too early to go home for a Friday night...but I'm already tipsy from all the delightful wines, and bloated from all the yummy food... Wow! Seems time stands still when you're having fun, and Wazzup Pilipinas is proud to be one of the media attendees here at the 16th Grand Wine Experience. It is truly the most illustrious wine event in Southeast Asia. Thanks to Philippine Wine Merchants for inviting me. If only I had no event the next day, I would have stayed until morning.

There are actually so many photos from the event that can be found at our official Facebook fan page at http://www.Facebook.com/wazzuppilipinas
