Power Mac Center Pixelworx Awards Cinemansanas Short Film Challenge Winners

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Ypur Pambansang Blogger had the pleasure of attending the culmination event for the Power Mac Center Pixelworx short film challenge where six finalists were pre-selected to get the chance to be among the 3 grand winners.

The finalists at the event were all probably both nervous and excited while awaiting the decision of the judges.

Cinemansanas is the second installment of Pixelworx, Power Mac Center’s advocacy of recognizing artists who break the standards of the art scene. It is celebrated with a series of workshops, live demos, and an ultimate art challenge.

The name Cinemansanas is a play between two words, cine and mansanas, to mean film/movie and Apple since the competition required participants to submit 5 minute movies shot using any iOS device.

The awards ceremony was held at the Power Mac Center Spotlight in Circuit Makati. A special screening of all the films were also shown afterwards at the Black Box Theater where the awarding took place.

I got to interview one of the finalist, namely Jaime Mari Morados, who was announced as one of the winners bringing home fabulous prizes from Apple Mac Center. Morados, a grade eight student, won the Platinum award for student category.

I am amazed of how young the finalists were. It seems I'm really getting old as during my time, we didn't have easy access to similar devices which could allow you to take videos with a quality acceptable enough for even the discerning critic. I envy these young generation but is very optimistic of what the future of technology would soon bring to our convenience in developing our creativity and imagination.

We would have to congratulate these bright young minds for both the professional and student category:

Professional category winners Jessie Villabrille (Gold Award), Edward Golla (Platinum Award), and Dylan Ray Talon (Diamond Award)
with Pixelworx ambassadors Monster Jimenez, Mario Cornejo, Ricky Lee, and Yam Laranas and Power Mac Center Marketing Director Joey Alvarez (leftmost) and Marketing Manager AG Constantino (rightmost)

Student category winners Jaime Mari Morados (Platinum Award), John Raymond Ilagan and Seliada Asilo (Diamond Award), and Caitlin Casenas and Dion Floreza for Joel Griffiths (Gold Award) with Pixelworx ambassadors Monster Jimenez, Mario Cornejo, Ricky Lee, andYam Laranasand Power Mac Center Marketing Manager AG Constantino (rightmost)

Premier figures in the film industry and designated Pixelworx brand ambassadors were also present as among the judges who deliberated on who will finally win the competition. Present were independent filmmakers Mario Cornejo and Monster Jimenez, seasoned director Yam Laranas, and multi-awarded author and screenwriter Ricky Lee.

A series of workshops in film production, cinematography, direction, editing, and scriptwriting to assist contenders in crafting their masterpieces were also spearheaded by these brand ambassadors.. This was supported by tutorials for iMovie, GarageBand, and Final Cut Pro X.

“The entries to this year’s Pixelworx competition showcase the talent and resourcefulness of Filipino artists. We are honored to introduce the visual storytellers who truly rose up to our challenge of filmmaking using Apple devices only,” said Marketing Director Joey Alvarez.

Entries were rated based on creativity of presentation (50 percent) and the quality of technical elements (50 percent). There were three winners in the student category and three winners in the professional category awarded during the ceremony.

Winners took home up to Php50,000 worth of Power Mac Center Gift Cards each. The Diamond Award winners in both student and professional categories also got the chance to have their films screened during the program.

Power Mac Center has also opened online voting for the Pixelworx People’s Choice Award. All entries that made it to the finals were uploaded in the Power Mac Center YouTube channel. The entry with the most number of likes by May 19, 2016 wins. It will be announced online on May 20.
