No More Third Telco Player, PLDT/Smart and Globe Duopoly Remains

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"A lot of Filipinos like myself were looking forward to a third player to shake up the telco market and improve competition. Knowing that this third player is far from reality again is unfortunate.
The Philippine Competition Commission needs to look into these transactions carefully and responsibly.
The Philippine Competition Act provided the Commission with wide-ranging powers and the mandate to protect the public interest. This is their first test and definitely a defining moment for them." - Bam Aquino

The telcos are now boasting that they have access to 700 Mhz frequency that will soon change the way we do "Internet." I am surprised that they are brainwashing people with the promise of a better Internet when they already could do it in the first place even without this new acquisition. They are just not allowing us to experience the full potential by intentionally capping speeds and limiting our access.

However, the duopoly remains with the absence of a third player that was supposed to make the gameplay more competitive. I don't agree with just having two telcos manipulating us. The government should let other telcos join in, and investigate what really went on with the transactions among San Miguel Corporation, Globe Telecom, andPLDT Home / Smart Communications, Inc. . Don't let the greed continue.

If these so-called Filipino companies continue to give such insulting service to Filipinos, then the government should open the business to foreigners. To protect us taxpayers, this sale should not push through and anti-trust cases should be filed by DOJ if it does.

The competition was "bought". Clearly they have done it not simply to provide better service. As an ordinary citizen this is the immediate response. They cannot blame us to think as such.. It is better to have more competition so people can have more options to select what is is best for their needs w/o spending too much. It keeps the telco services up on their toes and provide better quality service.

This "duopoly" in telco industry should be monitored closely by govt.. Something is wrong if they keep on doing this.. Please encourage more investors in the telco industry it will also provide jobs, technology thru training, and may even improve govt services (govt e-services) for the Filipino.

The industry could highly benefit from competition from a third player in the telco mix. If this deal pushes through though, I hope that Globe and PLDT would utilize it as an avenue towards highly progressive development in mobile internet services. We need to catch up with the Asian market! It's high time to open the market to foreign competition so that internet speed can be comparable to best in Asia if not the whole world. The coming administration should look into this matter as it concern about public welfare.

It's sad that none of these entities actually are no better and their billing for higher speeds & bandwidths are a joke compared to our ASIAN neighbors. The Filipino people deserve better than these monopolies who do not care for any improvement! Open the market to foreign entities for better competition and service.
