Balik Tanaw 2016: A Pasig River and Cultural Heritage Experience

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In celebration of the 118th Celebration of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, PIA-NCR, in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC), and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), will conduct a river tour entitled Balik Tanaw 2016: A Pasig River Tour and Cultural Heritage Experience on June 8, 2016 (Wednesday), 8:30 AM.

The activity aims to create a community that is well-informed on the rich history of various cities in Metro Manila traversed by the Ilog Pasig as well as to increase their level of awareness on the importance and preservation of heritage sites, and rehabilitation of rivers and its tributaries (esteros).

Historians and tour guides will be onboard during the tour. Aside from this, various art activities such as kundiman and spoken word performances will be the major highlights of the event onboard.

The tour will originate at the Guadalupe Ferry Station (Dr. Jose P. Rizal Avenue, Makati, Metro Manila) and the end point will be at the Escolta Ferry Station. The Pasig River tour will take around one (1) hour from Guadalupe Ferry Station to Escolta Ferry Station. We were advised that taking videos/photographs along the MalacaƱang Area is NOT allowed.

There will also be a walking tour in Escolta, Manila. The Escolta Commercial Association, Inc. and Heritage Conservation Society will lead the tour in various museums located at Escolta. The walking tour is FREE however, donations are encouraged. The walking tour at Escolta will also take around one-hour.

We were told to wear comfortable clothes for the event. Prepare umbrella/cap, extra shirt, bottled water, and sunblock in case needed. Morning snacks and lunch will be distributed to the participants during the event. We were also requested to inform the organizers ahead of time if we have sea-sickness or any other health concerns.

We are very fortunate to be among the few invited to join this event. Truly, Wazzup Pilipinas is now being recognized as an influential online platform that could help share the information about the event. Your Pambansang Blog ng Pilipinas is a truly advocate of everything about the Philippines especially when it means promoting and maintaining the country's rivers, most specially the Pasig river.

We will share the stories soon after we experience the actual tour. For now this is a pre-event aticle to inform everyone of the tour thatw e are about to embark on. We hope the weather cooperates and we don't get too much sun, or rain, so that the tour will be very successful. We also hope fatigue does not overwhelm us, and that the Pasig River would not stench too much. The Escolta tour will not be the first for us but we believe every tour will have something different depending on the guide and his or her knowledge about the many heritage spots around the area.
