Watson Institute Philippines' Demo Day Showcased Ventures of Scholars

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Friday nights have always been very busy for many of us as this is usually the time when many event organizers hold special gatherings or activities thinking the following weekend will guarantee attendance. Most events will start usually during late afternoons or night time until the wee hours of the morning.

I always find myself going from one event to the next (event hopping) because I really want to satisfy every event invite. But Fridays have always been undoubtedly the most hectic. Another reason why I really hate to decline is because I do not want to miss out on great opportunities to network or collaborate with like-minded individuals that I could possibly meet at events.

Watson Institute Philippines, An incubator program for student entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators in Manila, recently invited us to its culminating event, "The Watson Demo Day." last Friday, July 31, 2015, 6-9PM at the Freelancer office located at Ecotower Building, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), 32nd cor. 9th Ave, Taguig Philippines.

The Watson Demo Day showcased the ventures of the 13 Watson Institute Scholars who have been convened for 2 months this summer. They have been rigorously trained in transformative leadership and entrepreneurship and were mentored by the world's foremost social entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators.

Over the past 2 months, the students have also been working to pilot, prototype and scale their ventures in the Watson Lab. Several Master Course Teachers like Earl Valencia, Julius Paras, Esperanza Garcia, Noreen Bautista, Kei San Pablo, Lord Pomperada, Dean Tony La Vina, April Cuenca, Nicole Paterno, Brian Tenorio, Nix Nolledo, Dr. Ruth Uy Asmundson, Richard Decalos, Steve Benitez, Jojy Azurin, David Elefant, Raphael Mijeno, Ryan Letada, Farouk Merali, Paul Rivera, Diego Jose Ramos, and probably a lot more, supported the endeavor.

At the Demo Day, we learned from and celebrated the courage of these promising young Watson scholars, and afterwards, engaged with the diverse Watson community of social and tech entrepreneurs, startups, media, academia, nonprofit and government leaders, investors, and friends and family.

We also listened intently to some of the world's foremost leaders including Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneurs, a startup from Y-Combinator, and Ashoka and Echoing Green Fellows, to create solutions to the world's toughest social, environmental, and economic problems.

Watson Institute - Philippines is an 8-week long incubator in Manila, Philippines for student innovators, leaders, and entrepreneurs. It so happens that there was an event at nearby Mercato Centrale where I was also invited so some of us went there to have our dinner. I got to dine for free thanks to the Panlasang Norte of Mahalin Pagkaing Atin movement event organized by Pilmico Foods who gave my blogger friends and I some food vouchers.

Even though I had six (6) events lined uo that day, my only opportunity was to attend four (4) of them that were all in the area of BGC. True enough, the life of a blogger or online media is so challenging that sometimes we have to squeeze in our activities really tight. Please do forgive us if we cannot really cover the entire event from start to finish if there are so much events scheduled for the day.

It is within our best effort to deliver all your stories as fast and as comprehensive as possible. I personally like to tell stories of amazing individuals and initiatives that have significant effects on our society just like these 13 individuals from Watson Institute that will soon be the changemakers of our world.
