Chef Boy Logro at Panlasang Norte "Mahalin Pagkaing Atin" Movement of Pilmico Foods

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Join the Mahalin Pagkaing Atin movement to support the local farmers and the love of local food.

The Mahalin Pagkaing Atin program aims to to encourage more farmers to invest in manufacturing local produce, and to encourage corporations and entrepreneurs to buy home-grown food instead of importing from abroad in the hopes of bringing forward the quality of local Filipino goods, which showcases that local quality food can be better than foreign produce.

The movement is directed towards providing sustainable livelihood businesses to places with high incidences of poverty, disasters, and conflict. It also aims to tell the story of the farmers, whose produce reflects the various geographical conditions in the country, as well as the differences in local farming practices and culture.

We were invited to visit the Mercato Centrale, BCG on July 31 8PM-12MN for the Mahalin Pagkaing Atin movement with a theme of Panlasang Norte - to experience the taste the best of the North has to offer!

Mercato Centrale that night had some of the famous dishes and delicacies from Luzon that's truly #MahalinPagkaingAtin. There was a live band playing with performers giving out their best songs. There were also the DJ hosts from a local FM radio station who moderated the program proper for the night including the introduction of RJ Ledesma, co-founder of Mercato Centrale; John Paul Pangilinan, Marketing Manager of Pilmico Foods, and Chef Boy Logro, celebrity chef of the Kapamilya network giving a few "ping, ping, ping, ping" cooking demos of dishes that can be found up North.

"Each and every agricultural produce raised by the backyard farmers build the localities of the regions. They deserve to be celebrated." says John Paul Pangilinan who definitely lives up to the vision of strengthening the support for local Pinoy food and championing everyone to uphold Filipino delicacies.

"When we go to other countries like Singapore or Thailand, the first place locals take you to is the food strips. That's why we created Mercato -- so people will have somewhere to go to for local food. We want to support Filipino food - it's the next big thing in the world" says RJ Ledesma who holds a love for Filipino food so intense, it's contagious. I've heard RJ telling this story before of their humble beginnings inspired by the street food market they would often visit every time they are out of the country.

Since 2014, the advocacy of Mahalin Pagkaing Atin has been traveling the country through Food and Livelihood Expos to raise awareness about embracing local food. Pilmico, the food subsidiary of Aboitiz, visits tragedy, poverty and conflict stricken areas to help the people residing there to build a new life and prepare them for sustainable livelihood. Pilmico also conducts seminars on animal husbandry and nutrition, as well as cooking and baking demonstrations to showcase the different flavors of the provinces and promote local delicacies.

Thus Chef Boy Logro presented a few local dishes coming from the North in very interesting cooking demos, after which the sample of the dishes were also served to the audience delight. He wowed the crowd with his high-energy and great-tasting cooking. He taught the audience his recipes on four yummy recipes: Chicken Roulade, Pinakbet with Bagnet, Mango Empanada, and Crème Brulee; good stuff that the crowd were only very happy to partake in.
