Cebu to Take Spotlight at Property Summit

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippines’ second most important metropolis takes center stage at the first ever Property Summit Cebu, co-organized by global property platform Lamudi Philippines and MediaCom Solutions.

Boasting a thriving tourism and leisure industry, a vibrant BPO, business, and shipping sector, and some of the Philippines’ best beaches and diving sites, Metro Cebu’s property sector is more buoyant than ever. Both national and local developers are looking into expanding their portfolios in the “Queen City of the South,” including real estate giants SMDC, Ayala Land, Megaworld, and Federal Land, among others.

To give industry professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs an outlook of Metro Cebu’s rising real estate market, including the opportunities and challenges it presents, Lamudi and MediaCom have lined up an exceptional roster of speakers to share knowledge and expertise on the city’s property market.

They include Colliers International’s Julius Guevarra, who will discuss Cebu’s real estate outlook; and Rudolf Kotik, founder of Filipino International Franchise Association, who will share his expertise on how to spot the perfect location for one’s retail, franchise, and food and beverage business.

Meanwhile, Valentino Cabansag, CEO of the Philippine Retirement Authority, will discuss Cebu as a thriving leisure, retirement, and tourism destination; while KMC MAG Group managing director Michael McCullough will discuss the upcoming opportunities and challenges for Cebu’s BPO sector.

Capping off the summit will be Janet Toral, founder of DigitalFilipino, who will share her expertise on digital marketing for real estate.

According to Jacqueline van den Ende, Cebu is one of the most developed provinces in the Philippines, and its capital, Cebu City, is the Visayas region’s hub for commerce, trade, education, shipping, and industry. “But Cebu is more than just a progressive province, as it is also a popular tourist destination,” says van den Ende.

Data from the Department of Tourism shows 3.02 million tourists, both local and foreign, visited Cebu in 2014. Unlike Metro Manila, visitors in Metro Cebu can find themselves in an office tower in the morning and go island-hopping and scuba diving in the afternoon. In fact, the island of Cebu—along with its Visayan neighbors—was named Asia’s third best island by readers of U.S. magazine Condé Nast Traveler in 2013.

It is for these reasons that real estate players have been quick to respond to Cebu’s thriving property market. Condominiums, high-end resorts, office towers, shopping complexes, and indeed entire townships are continuously being built to meet the needs of Cebu’s visitors, investors, and residents alike. Even the province’s main gateway, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, will get a new terminal by as early as 2018. When completed, the airport’s capacity will grow to 12.5 million passengers from today’s 4.5 million.

The Property Summit Cebu will be held at the San Martin Function Room of Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday, July 17, 2015. The event will start at 2 p.m.
