Mary Jane Veloso Granted Reprieve, Execution Delayed

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipinos are rejoicing after hearing the news that Mary Jane Veloso, drug trafficking mule, was spared from the execution. Below are some thoughts taken from the Internet from Filipinos and media publications all over.

What a great news to see in the morning!!! I literally cried and intensely prayed for a miracle until 12:40am last night before I fell asleep. Also hanging on with her family. Indeed, God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

It feels so relieving that Mary Jane Veloso was spared and given the chance to prove her innocence. As the recruiter surrendered herself let the case prosper. I just hope truth will come out so that no innocent life would be waste.

Mary Jane Veloso’s life has been saved—for now. According to Indonesian officials, Veloso was spared from the firing squad, citing the surrender of the woman who recruited and allegedly tricking her into.

Let me remind everyone that she has not been absolutely pardoned just yet, but was only spared of execution. A lot still has to be done.

The people who were executed in Indonesia: Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Nigerians Martin Anderson, Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, Okwudily Oyantze and Raheem Agbaje Salami, Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte and Indonesian Zaenal Abidin.

Mary Jane Veloso has received a reprieve, but this is not yet a pardon.

Activists outside the Indonesian Embassy in Manila erupted in cheers on Wednesday (April 29) after learning about Indonesia's decision to delay the execution of a Filipina on death row.

The alleged illegal recruiters of Mary Jane Veloso, who is set to be executed in Indonesia for drug trafficking, appeared before Nueva Ecija police yesterday. Ma. Cristina Sergio and her live-in partner Julius Lacanilao face charges of illegal recruitment, human trafficking and estafa by swindling.

According to the Indonesian Attorney General, it was PNoy's request that spared Mary Jane Veloso's life, but what is this news below?

This just in... To honor Indonesia's national hero and woman's rights activist: Raden Kartini.

Veloso was spared, not because of appeal from Bankimon, the UN Secretary General, certainly not because of Philippine President Noynoy Aquino who was ignored, but probably will claim the credit, but to honor Indonesia’s national hero and woman’s rights activist Raden Kartini.

At any rate, what is important is that Mary Jane's life was spared. It's cause for rejoicing.
