Firgun: A Book Swap Event For A Cause

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In this digital age when e-books, social media and blogs are the "in" thing to read, it is quite surprising to know that there are still a significant few that collect and read the printed book versions that many would probably refer to as the old school style of reading.

I remember the earlier days when I used to roam around all the bookstores in search of bargain books and magazines. I was a collector of the sci-fi, detective and adventure literature and glossy magazines of the same genre. But when e-books started becoming popular and many blogs started posting a lot of interesting readings, that passion of collection diminished.

However, I still collect a few rare ones that usually pops out as sensational or controversial but unfortunately, not entirely for reading but more on collecting. I'm not sure if I can still be called a bookworm, but I have to admit that the feel of turning the pages of a real book is a lot different from swapping of pages on the tablet. There is something about the touch, and smell, of the printed form that excites the senses.

This coming February 21, The Dream Shirt, an online shop that sells book inspired t-shirts, will be having its first book swap event called “Firgun”. It will be held at Local Edition Coffee and Tea in Makati City from 1PM to 4PM.

This may be an opportunity to relive my fancy for the printed books because I might find a lot of interesting titles that I've never read yet. It may be the start of another book collecting journey.

For interested attendees, an entrance fee of Php 250.00 will be collected, inclusive of one coffee or one bottle of Bayani Brew. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the kids from Wawang Capiz, Bulacan.

Firgun is an event that will let bookworms swap their old books to new titles. Inspired by the idea of sharing the joy of reading, the event aims to bring bookworms together, giving them a chance to inspire other readers through their book choices. People of all ages can attend the event as long as they bring in old books for swapping. Participants can bring up to ten (10) books, under the categories of Fiction, Classics, Essay, Poetry, and Art, may it be in English or Filipino. Books must be in good or mint condition.

Participants who wish to give toys, textbooks, or other materials to the kids of Wawang Capiz may also bring in their donations during the event. Those who also wish to buy book inspired merchandise from The Dream Shirt may also reserve prior to the event.

Firgun is made possible by The Dream Shirt, co-presented by Blink (www.blink.com.ph) and Belle de Jour Planners, with their official media partners, WheninManila.com and WazzupPilipinas.com.

For inquiries, reservations, and group discounts, you may text Janelle at 0906 3811776 or contact them through their Facebook account: http://www.facebook.com/thedreamshirt. You may also RSVP to their event at http://bit.ly/tds_firgun. See you there!

  1. I really would love this event, it is like a slice of heaven for such bookworms just like myself. This is a very creative project and I must say that this article should be read by many to inspire the people to read hard copies(books) despite of the advancement of technology. I am enthused by this article. :)

  4. I really like this event because it is a great way to promote reading. By swapping your old books to new ones, you will be able to share your experiences with that book and you will gain new experiences with the new book that you'll receive. I also like that part of the proceeds will be donated to help the needy.
