Rampage 2014, the biggest gathering of League of Legends fans in the country, supported by GameX, the online portal developed by wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) for eSports players, was a huge success this year, running a full and exciting day of games and activities.
A popular multi-player online battle arena game, League of Legends pits two teams of powerful champions in a head-to-head battle across different fields and game modes. The game’s unique and exciting design requires a lot of strategy and coordination among team members, and is one of the reasons for its keen following worldwide.

Among the highlights of the event held at the World Trade Center was the GameX Pro Gaming Series tournament, a search for the country’s top League of Legends group that will represent the country to the world arena. Thousands of gaming aficionados trooped to the venue to root for the country’s top four League of Legends teams.

Team Manila Eagles beats Team Mineski

At the tournament, Team Manila Eagles advanced to the final rounds after edging out Team Mineski twice in a best-of-three match. Team Manila’s line-up includes Marvin Dan Mansilungan ( Game Name: Chock); Yuki Tsuchiya (Yukz); Adrian Cabero (H4T3); Geral Gainne Gelacio (Tgee); Eric Allen Gubatan (Exo); and Elvis Zhao (Knut). Team Mineski is composed of James Calumpag (MAKULIT); Eric Medina (woopz); Cedrick Daez (CED); Danyll Balisi (Yume); James Santos (Hamezu) ; and Hazen Carandang (Arajaja).

On the other hand, Team Diamond and Team Wargods were tied with one point each, and are set to continue their clash to determine Team Manila Eagles’ opponent at the much-awaited final round.

Team Diamond is composed of players Mark Eddyson Ladrera (Shura) ; Egan Amatong (Naaage); Merril Dela Cruz (Meme); Ethan Amatong (Ethan); Evan Amatong (Ebaaan); and Reedze Luan Asensi (sunzi); while Team Wargods’ line-up includes Jaiby Paglingayen (JLC); Laner Robert Conrad Pascual (otchie); Carry Zeus Lee (Suez); Ronel Tan (Stronger); Robert Dan Mansilungan (Trebor); and Jesse Florence Hieras (Poysanity).

The winner of the finals will have a chance to represent the country at the Regional Garena Premier League and compete with the top teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand before advancing to the Garena Premier League. This is the only way for teams to qualify for the upcoming League of Legends 2014 World Championships to be held at the Seoul World Cup stadium, South Korea on October 19.

Growing community of gamers

“It was such a thrill to see how the top players conducted their game,” said 19-year old John Baculinao, who came to Rampage 2014 with his friends. “It’s actually our first time to attend an event like this, and we got a lot of inspiration from those who have already made it really far in online gaming,” he added.

Not new to the competitive gaming scene, 15-year old Knoxlander Lopez said he went to the event mainly to root for Manila Eagles, as well as enjoy the rest of the activities. “This year’s Rampage 2014 was such a great experience, and it is nice to see the growing community of League of Legends gamers in the country.”
