Mind Museum: Celebrating Two Years of Wide-Eyed Wonderment

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"To be a wide-eyed wanderer is a disposition - it is someone who travels aimlessly having one's eyes opened with amazement and astonishment. It's not just for kids who are curious about everything but also for grown ups who continue to journey in life."

The Mind Museum, marking its two years of operation this March as a science, exploration and creativity museum, is the first world class science museum in the Philippines that is ideal for wide-eyed wanderers to journey in the fun world of Science. And in celebration, The Mind Museum invited me and my family, along with other guests, last March 22, Saturday, at around 1:00PM at their place for us to wander and have a great adventure as we explored the fun world of science and what The Mind Museum has to offer this 2014.

The Mind Museum media family day was a special day for my kids because it was their first time to visit the Science museum. They had lots of fun going from one exhibit to another as they try to complete the challenge given to them by filling up with stickers the passport provided per family. Though they never completed the challenge because they were too overwhelmed at the sight of every attraction available at the museum. It took them a great deal of time discovering new learning and scientific information per area.

The event started out with a few finger foods for the participating families. I was with my wife and two kids, the third one (my eldest) was not able to make it because she had a school activity that Saturday.

Snack time was then followed by a bit of touch point discussions about the Mind Museum from a couple of key speakers on stage who reiterated information revealing that 90% of the exhibits at the Mind Museum were made by Filipinos.

That is awesome as we really need to equip and make use of Filipino talent and skills so there will be more employment opportunities for our countrymen even on a contractual or temporary basis.

The museum has been also hosting fantastic traveling exhibitions from other countries like the Biorhythm from Irteland way back 2012, and the Da Vinci- The Genius last 2013. It is also an institutional partner of the World Science Festival and the California Academy of Sciences.

It constantly evolves by coming up with new ways on how to present Science. For instance, they have three planetarium shows with the Tim Allen narrated "Back to the Moon for Good" as its newest. The show premiered last February along with other select planetariums around the world.

By end of April, there will be an exhibition touching on possible creative lifestyles under climate change. This will be housed at a portion of the second floor and is called "The Apocalypse Project - Imagined Futures."

They will also have summer programs like the Crime Scene Investigation or CSI 101 where kids will learn how to gather and analyze evidence from a crime scene, the Junior Mind Mover Program where the kids will learn about the works of scientists in museums, the Marine Science Camp where kids will experience an underwater look into the coral reefs of Anilao, Batangas, and the Soccer Science, a soccer game training and a Science workshop rolled into one.

To add more, there's also monthly science parties called Mindbursts, and free science conversations with rockstar scientists from all over in Cafe Scientifique.

There will always be something new and exciting that the Mind Museum will regularly feature and add to its huge number of science attractions. The entire day will not be enough for your kids to explore the many wonderful exhibits that can be found at the museum.

The experience will actually open their minds to many possibilities and realizations enough to creatively influence their imagination. We will surely go back there to continue our exploration.
