Makati City is Selfie Capital of the World

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Wow! After making as Word of the Year in Oxford Dictionary, TIME magazine is now declaring Makati, the financial capital of the Philippines, as the Selfie Capital of the World.

Makati is the "selfiest" city in the world according to the popular international magazine. TIME identified 100 cities in the world were the most selfies are hugely being made. "Makati City produces more selfie per capita than any other city in the planet", says Chris Wilson, interactive graphics editor at TIME magazine. Wilson adds that Makati has 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.

Cebu City was also included on the list of selfiest places in the world ranking at No. 9 with an average of 99 selfie-takers for every 100,000 people.

According to TIME’s report, here are the top ten "selfiest" cities in the world:

Makati City and Pasig, Philippines – 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Manhattan, New York – 202 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Miami, Florida – 155 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Anaheim and Santa Ana, California – 147 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – 141 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Tel Aviv, Israel – 139 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Manchester, England – 114 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Milan, Italy – 108 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
Cebu City, Philippines – 99 selfie-takers per 100,000 people
George Town, Malaysia – 95 selfie-takers per 100,000 people

It was bound to happen but I was not surprised it turned out to be Makati since everyone there has a smartphone and those huge buildings houses several companies with a great number of employees all capable of owning a smartphone and more technically inclined to do more "selfies" than any other location in the Philippines.

Is this something we can be proud of as Pinoys? Well, we proved one thing, we rule social media with our awesome personalities glaring infront of the phone camera!
