Michael Christian Martinez: An Olympic Dream at the Sochi Winter Olympics

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippines' flag bearer is figure skater Michael Christian Martinez who leads his national delegation during the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Not only is Michael Christian Martinez the lone Olympian from the Philippines at the Sochi Games, he's also the first to compete at the Winter Games since 1994.

As for support from the Philippine government, “I don’t even think anyone at the President’s office knows there’s a Filipino skating in the Olympics,” said Teresa Martinez, who said she has written the office several times asking for help.

Not a single peso from the government, "kahit isang singkong duling", but the government can afford to spend P150,000 a month to keep suspected criminals like Janet Napoles "safe".

Be that as it may, let's pray for all the best for Michael Christian Martinez. The young gent with the unwavering support (emotional, spiritual and financial) of his parents deserves no less than our bestest of wishes.

Athletes were never prioritized nor will it ever be by any of our government officials it seems. The only time they get noticed is when they win, then someone will approach them to get whatever fame or credits for their win. Number one on the list will be Kim Henares from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). Lol.Unfortunately, this is nothing new. The government only steps in IF you've already done everything in your power and gained something for yourself and the nation without their help... and then they try to get the credit. Unfortunately, this is not only the case with sports programs but across the board... the lack of vision to see where the nation will go (beyond the "tuwid na daan") is the very reason that there is no solid plan nor any budgeted items.

The government is reactive rather than being at the forefront of innovation, leadership and especially development... and I am not only speaking with regards to the executive branch... but to all branches of government. The current ills that we've experienced such as the electricity concern is mainly happening because The DOE & ERC has no planned energy independence?

Innovative and alternative sources of energy that they can implement? Nothing... With regards to the throttling down and capping of Internet services, the DOTC & NTC again has no vision. About bringing the Philippines to improved services at cheaper cost comparable to our neighbors, given that we're now a BPO hub with Internet infra being important (backbone). Again, where's the plan?

Everyone is at the mercy of the providers... to sports... PSC... heck..... I can go on and on... sad that Pinoys must fend for themselves before government do anything. They (government) often think of excuses not to do anything... rather than hurdle around difficulties to achieve a vision and focus on how to develop it and be a success... Oh but hey... there is no vision to even determine where to go.
Ito yung dapat tutukan ng media, international ito, hindi si Vhong Navarro at ang alang kwentang Deniece Cornejo!

To Michael Christian Martinez, go for gold and go for your dreams! To the parents, you guys are simply amazing! God speed!

Go Michael, we hope for the best but no matter what the results would be, we would still be proud of you. It is an honour for the Philippines for having you in the Winter Olympics. Skate with your heart. May the angels be with you and help you reach the skies.
