Bicycle Implementation on our Streets

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Should the government implement bicycle lanes on our streets?

Our nation has come to an age of modernization where accelerating machines and simple ones co-exist. Bicycles on the other hand, fall on the latter category: a simple one yet economical. Bicycle is one of the easiest means of transportation. Above anything else, biking reduces carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and promotes healthy lifestyle to the ones who used them.

The Bicycle Act of 2011 (Senate Bill No. 2688) invokes that main roads and highways shall have at least bicycle lanes as per the mandate of the LBO. The bill also indicates the right, restrictions, regulations and incentives of the cyclist. It also indicates the right use of bicycle parts to ensure the safety within the user’s control. Meanwhile, bicycle lanes are installed along EDSA, Remedios circle up to Roxas Avenue, Marcos Highway in Marikina proper and Commonwealth Avenue.

We cannot turn back the time when the Earth was still young. It is an irreversible process. The air is not clean as it is. We do something now or were going to pay it later. Whether we are paying attention or not, the fact that we live in Earth proves us that no matter what the circumstances, this Earth is the only planet that is susceptible to living things.
