Ang Bagong Harana by the Philippine Opera Company

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Philippine Opera Company's "Ang Bagong Harana" press preview event was on a Monday, October 11, 2013 for the members of the media at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati.

It was a timely show that will be appreciated by every Filipino. A highly recommended comedy play for every Filipino to watch.

"Sa kanyang pagharap, ano ang hinaharap?" ...

"Ang Bagong Harana" is also a tribute to the Filipino youth of today. As more and more younger kids are drawn to Western influences the young kids of today can learn from “Ang Bagong Harana” specially, those who need to assert their own Filipino identity through the rich music heritage we have.

"Manumbalik tayo sa paniniwalang tinuro sa atin sa ating pagkabata na marahil ay atin ng nakalimutan."

We are One. We are Copernicus.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Copernicus. I thought that it is just another section in fourth year, but my perception changed when I became a part of it.

Honestly, when I saw the list of names included in IV- Copernicus, I felt a little sad, because the names of some of my buddies from my previous section was not included. The moment I entered the room, I almost felt comfortable, because I saw some of my colleagues.
Since I entered another chapter in my high school life, there are a lot of changes, new faces, new set of friends. I thought growing closer to the friends that still remain would be a really good idea, after a few events, I thought not.

Everybody waited for this, every fourth year student wanted to be a part of this dance competition called Aerodance. Almost a month before the competition, our section started to prepare for this contest. Every weekend, we tried to practice, so that we could be one of the placer in the competition, because as we all know if your section is one of the winners, there's a possibility that you can dance in Paskotitap.

Coffee Origins 2013 : The Country's Biggest Coffee Event

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A cup of coffee would always be the first thing I would look for every morning. It's the perfect drink to start the day right along side my favorite breakfast meals cooked by my adorable wife.

We take pride in drinking brewed coffee sourced from Filipino farmers coming direct from nearby provinces. If there is none available, that is the only time we resort to instant coffee.

Coffee drinking is indeed a common sight here in the Philippines. That is probably why there has been a proliferation of coffee shops in our country. Almost everyone appreciates coffee not only in the morning but at every hour of the day.

The Philippine Coffee Board Inc. (PCBI) and Ayala Malls have once again joined forces to bring us the country's biggest coffee event dubbed as Coffee Origins 2013. The event is set for October 10 to 22 at the second level of Greenbelt 5 Ayala Mall, Makati city.

For the Philippine audience, their series of concerts will be unique, when not the first ever chance to get encountered with cymbalo, a special music instrument which the group is using,

Aerodance, Pistang Pinoy and Sci-Olympics : Merely Competitions

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Being on Pasig City Science High School is very stressing and requires a lot of effort. We have academic competitions like: outside school competitions, inside school competitions and even inside the classroom competitions. Isn't it ironic how we share our laughter and precious moments every day? Isn't it ironic how we are united even though we have these little competitions?

Funny, isn't it?

Noone ever imagined that two hundred and one heads would be acting as one. No one ever imagined that our batch—sixth batch—would treat each other as brothers and sisters.

Aerodance, Pistang Pinoy and Sci-Olympics helped us fourth year students grow our bonds; to tighten these bonds and to boost our confidence and other moral values. These events are not merely school programs. They are indeed a bonding for us.

Boracay Imagery: Life of Locals and Expats

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Boracay has become a popular resettlement island for foreigners. Retirees and business-minded individuals see the island not only as a peaceful place for living the life, but also as a lucrative destination for establishing a tourism-related enterprise. But inside this bigger picture, it is interesting to see what Boracay inhabitants do on a daily basis. Below are some of the details that show the daily lives of Boracay locals and expats.

The locals

Native Filipinos retain the habit of waking up before dawn. In families with schoolchildren, adults prepare breakfast first and send them off to school on the main island. Doing domestic chores takes up most of the time in the morning, where mothers administer tasks to older kids. The head of the family may leave before or after the schoolchildren depending on their employment.

Being a tourist destination, Boracay offers different kinds of occupations for locals. Bars, restaurants, and the D'Mall employ young adults for regular or contractual positions. Some older people who are still able to work manage kiosks in the populated areas to sell trinkets and other basic necessities like food and drinks. Skilled and educated locals take on hospitality or instructing jobs. Basically, locals on the island of Boracay are the laborers who assist and extend service to foreigners.

Walker Underwear Philippines Rips off Baybayin Font

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Seems like a trend that people and businesses in the Philippines don't respect intellectual property.

Walker Underwear stole my Baybayin artwork recently. They refused to make a public apology and threatened to take it to court. They took down their FB page with the photos after my supporters and I called them out."- Kristian Kabuay, Filipino Calligraphy Artist

I am reposting the article below to help share the news:

I’ve been ripped off again. This time by Walker Underwear from the Philippines. They used my Baybayin font that’s of my personal handwriting their “Extreme Collection:Baybayin”

I noticed it when some celebrity Teejay Marquez posted it on Instagram. I bust my ass traveling the world for free promoting Baybayin and Philippine culture out of my own pocket. This blatant disregard of my work will not be tolerated. I think it’s a great idea for Baybayin underwear but all they had to do was ask.

I’m sure they’ll come back and say our designer did it or it’s the fault of the freelancer. There was no note, we just downloaded it from the internet so we assume it was free. We never heard of you, etc. All lame excuses. If there’s any doubt of the origin of the art, they should know that they have to make an attempt to investigate.

iAcademy Supports the National Bullying Prevention Month

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Being bullied, whether at school, or at the playground, or anywhere within your neighborhood by other children the same age as you could become a very traumatizing experience. Unconsciously, it creates an emotional burden in our personality that may somehow bring our confidence down, and what's worst is that we may take this inferiority complex with us all throughout our lives - at work, as we start a family, as we raise our kids, etc.,. Unknowingly, if you have experienced being bullied during your younger years, it might have forever stained or bruised you, admit it or not.

The effects are damaging and may become a lifetime of struggle. We should act quickly before our children suffer the same disturbance to an otherwise peaceful and productive life.

iAcademy is actively promoting an Anti-Bullying Campaign in support of the National Bullying Prevention Month of October.

Below is a video made by the students to help create awareness and support the Anti-Bullying Campaign.

Annebisyosa now titled as "grANNEdiosa" for being the new face of the videoke microphone formerly branded as Wow Magic Sing, which then changed its name to Wow Videoke and had product endorsers like Regine Velasquez (Asia's Songbird) and Charice Pempengco (International Singing Sensation) - and don't forget Willie Revillame as side endorser on his Wowowillie show.

Anne truly reflects most Filipinos who would be using the gadget that makes anybody sound like a pro because of its technology that somehow enhances your singing capability and helps you to comfortably and confidently sing with all your might. It's definitely a lot better than singing inside the bathroom.

We all know that Anne is not a professional singer, and she must have been playing around with gadgets like these before to practice, so everyone is assured that she will use the Grand Videoke to dramatically improve her singing prowess.

As what Andres V. Sanchez Jr., President of Wow Group, has said - they wanted a brand Ambassador that may not necessarily be a Soul Siren like Nina (I think he should have said Asia's Songbird like Regine Velasquez) or an International Singing Sensation like Charice Pempengco, but one who personalizes the "madlang people" and having a lot of followers in her TV, movie, and social media accounts is a big bonus.

Robin Padilla Versus Franklin Drilon : Abolish the "Pork" Now!

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Kami ni Senador Jinggoy Estrada at Senador Bong Revilla ay naging magkaibigan dahil kami ay mga artista. Kung anuman po ang kinalaman ng kanilang trabaho sa isa't-isa, wala po ako doon. Hindi po tayo mabubuhay nang walang kaibigan, at hindi po ibig sabihin na sasamahan ko ang kaibigan ko pag siya'y mali... Ang sinasabi ko po, sa oras na ito, lahat sila'y marumi," Robin Padilla
Do you think Robin Padilla is level-minded and fair to everyone? Do you think he can lead some changes in the country?

3rd Halo-Halo Indie Film Festival : Showcasing Filipino Talents in Film Making

Wazzup Pilipinas!

MaSKay is now accepting short film entries for the 3rd Halo-Halo Independent Film Festival(HHIFF 2013). Deadline is on October 31, 2013.

Halo-Halo Independent Film Festival (HHIFF) is now on its third year. An event aiming to provide opportunities, encouraging interested people who have undying passion for filmmaking and the arts. It serves as an outlet to express and a venue to showcase talents through films.

The 3rd Halo-Halo Indie Film Festival shares a different viewing pleasure from its pilot run two years ago, where people comfortably watch films while dining with friends and families. Showcasing various short films in narrative, documentary, animation, music video, experimental and other genres produced by Filipino students and filmmakers both amateur and professionals.

Halo-Halo 3 breaks the stiffening impression of a distant stage, where the films, the filmmakers and the audience get to easily engage and communicate with each other. And because we value the participation of our filmmakers and audience, we will be having an “Audience Choice” award where the film viewers will pick their favorite film among the entries in the film festival.

Pokemon X and Y : Launch Day Meet-Up

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The PKMN-ph Team, spearheaded by me, Ranger Paul (yeah, dropped my name there already) decided to create this Pokémon X and Y: Launch Day Meet-Up event (October 12, 2013, Saturday at 1 pm) in order to establish our community better by participating in this one global event in the franchise's history.

We are already listed at the Bulbanews Fan Launch Event Page so if that still doesn't make you proud, then I don't know what to do anymore.

However, we lack the manpower, the funds and the support of TPCi (or even DataBlitz) to start a Fan Launch Party that you guys have been expecting.

To be honest, we don't even know if a 5-man team can handle 90 members at the cramped-up CyberZone in Megamall all at the same time; let alone conduct a B/W tournament for all of us on Saturday.

Tears For Fears Music Night at Route 196

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Everybody Wants to Rule the World! Who doesn't?

I guess that is why we love singing that song because it has a deeper interpretation aside from the catchy tune and the meaningful lyrics. Who doesn't know the singers behind that iconic song? Unless you were just born today, you've probably heard one of their famous songs already, and you have to admit that you would get the LSS (Last Song Syndrome) after hearing any of their songs, especially the chorus part.

The Tears for Fears are an English New Wave band formed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Their music has caught the attention of this Mad World and has continued (and will continue) to play their music for everyone's enjoyment.

I grew up with their music, and their MTVs, and I have to say that I appreciate their music very much!

Wazzup Pilipinas is happy to announce that we are a proud online media partner of the Generic Mamaw Presents Tears For Fears event happening this October 30 at Route 196. The Tears for Fears party starts at 10 pm until 2 am the following morning!!!!
