Megan Young is Going Home to the Philippines on October 11

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"See you soon, Philippines ♥♡♥"- @meganbata Megan Young
I'm just reposting some newsworthy announcement that I'm sure every Filipino will be excited about:

Recenly crowned Miss World of 2013 Megan Young returns to Manila on October 11, ABS-CBN reports.

Cory Quirino, director of Miss World Philippines has confirmed the news. "Parating na siya. Darating siya Thursday," she said. The 23-year-old actress and model, who has fulfilled her dream to take part and win in an international beauty contest, is the first Filipino to win the coveted crown.

Upon her return to Metro Manila, she is expected to be welcomed with a parade around the metropolis, in the historic tradition accorded to Gemma Cruz (for winning the Miss International title in 1964) and Gloria Diaz (for winning the Miss Universe title in 1969), among other past Filipina winners in international contests.

Megan's arrival will thus be another moment in the history, pop culture, and social life of Manila. - via RAPPLER

“Today, we find ourselves at a time where we are cleaning up and strengthening our systems and processes; at a time when we once more face a crossroads—if we choose what is right and what is straight, this is the path that will bring us to true and meaningful change in society. It is my hope that, as a people, we will see today’s destruction of the culture of corruption as part of our goal to achieve inclusive growth.”

GoinOut Social Networking App : Very Much APPreciated!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Gotta love the Pick-Up Line "I must be dancing with the Devil, because you're HOT as HELL!" It's one of the pick-up lines I see in an app that I just downloaded a few minutes ago.

I reviewed a social networking app that lets you know of exciting events happening globally while interacting with your online friends and other subscribers. Since my blog is all about anything and everything happening in Manila, or the Philippines as a whole, and even outside the country for events  and issues which every Filipino share the interests globally, I believe I would APPreciate this app very much.

I welcome the relaunch of a new network app called GOINOUT - the premier dedicated nightlife social networking platform.

Trying out the app was so fun and it was very easy for me to navigate around the program. I logged in using my Facebook account so I didn't have to register, and it was really user-friendly. Easily comprehensible instructions and I was surprised that quite a number of my online friends, especially the ones who are always out on a gimmick checking out the different bars, clubs and other events places.

Acne Can't Be Cured But It Can Be Controlled Especially With Proactiv

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Acne may be a very common sight for many of us. It is a human disease that many under-estimate. We all went to the stage when we were bothered by acne, and some of us even had the worst kind, having acne occupying almost our entire face and even all over our body. While some were lucky enough to have only a few coming out to tease us but still acne was there as a threat to a flawless facial skin.

The disease is characterized by areas of skin that may turn scaly red, with blackheads and whiteheads, pinheads, large papules, pimples, and possibly scarring. It affects mostly skin in the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back.

Acne is common, complex and chronic, and NOT curable. But it is controllable.

Acne must be taken seriously. It is a common misconception that it can be cured. The only way to deal with acne is to manage, control and prevent it as you outgrow it. And of course, to use Proactiv
Solution.

X Means Love : A Campaign to Raise Cervical Cancer Awareness

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Cervical cancer claims lives in an alarming rate! Not everyone knows that it can be prevented, and the discovery of the cancer only normally occurs at a stage when it is already at its worst.

We really need to run a campaign to raise the awareness of the people especially the women who are the most number of affected by the cancer.

I have heard of a few of my relatives that died of this dreaded cervical cancer so I am in full support of all campaigns that would aggressively inform people of how to fight it.
GSK, in partnership with ABS-CBN Foundation, BayaniJuan, and local medical societies, Bravehearts and Healthway, launches new campaign to raise cervical cancer awareness.

A new campaign was recently launched to increase awareness of cervical cancer that claims the lives of many Filipino women . Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the country, with an estimated 4,800 mothers, daughters, wives, and girl friends diagnosed each year. Every day, there are 12 Filipino women who die from this disease1, which is preventable through regular screening and vaccination.

Enchanted Farm Cafe from Gawad Kalinga

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I got an invite to meetup at a place called the Enchanted Farm Cafe that is said to be located in Commonwealth, Quezon City.

Now, I remember the same cafe that we went a few months ago. This was where I bought a Bayani Brew drink to quench my thirst while on the road on our way to the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in Bulacan.

They sell many interesting products at the Enchanted Farm Cafe whose portion of the income or revenues goes to the Gawad Kalinga programs.

The Enchanted Farm Cafe is a story of faith, passion and love of country. It is a project originally launched by Gawad Kalinga Center for Social Innovation (CSI) to bridge Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan to the city market. Its original concept was to test social enterprise products and to create a platform where GK Enchanted Farm’s organic vegetables could be sold.

Boundaries Can Be Defeated!

Orpheus and Eurydice (Greek Mythology)
credits: to the owner

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Are you fond of Greek Mythology? If yes then you must have known the sad love story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The two lovers who tried to defeat the boundaries of death.

If you haven't heard of the story yet then let me give you a summary.

Orpheus was the son of Apollo and he was a very gifted musician whose music could charm mortals, animals and the trees. Eurydice was the wife of Orpheus, the two of them showed how much they love each other, that even death is can never separate the two.

One day Eurydice was wandering with the nymphs. A shepherd named Aristaeus attempted to make advance towards Eurydice. Because of fear Eurydice ran off. While running she was bitten by a snake and died.

Being so grief stricken Orpheus played his sorrows in his music which was heard by gods and men.Orpheus then came up with an idea and went to the underworld. He played music that made Hades, king of the underworld, decide to give Eurydice back to Orpheus. But in one certain condition. And that is to never look back to Eurydice unless they are already out of the underworld.

Sinead O' Connor Writes Miley Cyrus an Open Letter

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Irish singer Sinead O' Connor, the singer who infamously ripped a photo of Pope John Paul II on National television (Saturday Night Live) calling the Church as the "real enemy", has an open letter for Miley Cyrus.

You really gotta love or hate her insanity, but there is no doubt that her songs are great and this one act of reaching out to the 20-year old singer Miley Cyrus deserves a praise.

Wrecking Ball's controversial video was inspired by Sinead O' Connor's song Nothing Compares 2 U. She said she was compelled to warn Cyrus that she is being "pimped" by the pop industry.

Now who among our Filipino singers would do the same act of goodness for the new young singers out there that already have the tendency to get lost in the wild side?..and further inspired to follow the crazy path of the former Disney teen star. Think skimpy outfits, too much revealing cleavage, skin-tight body hugging outfits, etc.

Below is the full text of O'Connor's blogpost:

Ulm: Method and Design Exhibit at the Yuchengco Museum

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The ulm: method and design | ulm school of design exhibition focuses on research into, and visualization of, the "Ulm Model," exploring its effects up to the present day. Using large-format photos, text panels, an illustrated synopsis, models, graphic works, draft designs, products, a "tower of books," and videos, it shows the great variety of intellectual approaches, procedures, and results of the school's work.

From its existence in 1953 through 1968, the Ulm School of Design was one of the most important contemporary design academies. It saw itself as an international institution for teaching, research, and development in the field of design. Students from many different countries were drawn to Ulm, attracted not only by the interdisciplinary aspects of the training program, but also by the names of founders and teachers. The special methodology used in Ulm is still internationally influential today in design teaching. Known as the "Ulm Model," it has helped define what it means to be a professional industrial designer.

Yuchengco Museum invites you to the exhibit Ulmer Modelle | Modelle Nach Ulm (Ulm: Method and Design | Ulm School of Design) on Wednesday, October 16, until November15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Yuchengco Museum located at the G/F RCBC Plaza, Corner Ayala & Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati.

Stay tuned for updates on the October 16 Art Walk and other exhibit programs.

Puppy Crushed to Death By Three Ladies

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Every netizen is infuriated with another viral issue spreading like wild fire online about three ladies crushing to death a puppy with their bare feet.

My daughter said there is even a video of this "Puppy Crushing" in YouTube. She was traumatized by it she can't sleep and was crying when she reached out to me for comfort. I'm not sure if it's still up and I don't dare try posting it here or even a link. It's so cruel to find out that human beings can do such a thing.

It's truly sad when people act without compassion to life. Doesn't matter if it's not human. All living beings are equal.

I felt so angry as I watched the video. I couldn't even finished watching their devilish acts! Sana sarili na lang nila ang pinagtatapakan nila. Mga walang kaluluwa! Maputulan sana kayo ng mga paa!

Mark Lindo : Another Photo Plagiarist Like Mark Joseph Solis

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Looks like we have another "Mark Solis"..... in the person of another Mark.... This time Marky Lindo . I saw mutual friends on his list. He's even Tesda approved hahahaha. The f#ck with that." - Peter Jaena
Whoever is this guy, ang tigas ng mukha! Grabe! No wonder puro magnanakaw karamihan sa gobyerno! Picture nga lang sa web ninanakaw na, what more ang perang di pinaghihirapan?

I was just shock to know na malala na pala ang talamak na gawain na photograbbing sa Pilipinas. TESDA certified photograbber! Baka naman product of UNIVERSITY OF RECTO yung TESDA certificate.

She is remarkably pretty in punk in the October issue. I swear I couldn't have recognized her if it wasn't mentioned. Loving the hair color, and the "bangs", and the new look of Toni here!

But I think the make up is too romantic and bridal for a punk-themed shoot. Though I'm so glad to see a different face in Preview mag, even though it's her second time.

Wearing the latest from Miss Selfridge and ACNE, the host/actress finds the rebel in her as we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a punch.

Miss Resorts World Manila 2013 Awards Best In Swimsuit and Media Darling of the Night

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Wazzup Pilipinas was invited for the special media presentation of the 20 candidates of the Miss Resorts World Manila 2013. I am very fond of attending pageants since I've attended all of them here in the Philippines like Binibining Pilipinas, Mutya ng Pilipinas, Miss Earth, and other similar pageants where Filipinas all compete for the title of a beauty queen, and then eventually get the chance to compete at an international beauty competition.

Miss Resorts World Manila 2013 is a celebration of beauty, congeniality, luxury and world-class elegance. As Resorts World Manila (RWM) brand ambassador for an entire year, the winner will play a key role in events hosting, radio and TV guestings, fashion shows, and print ad modeling, and representing RWM in various events and activities.

The Media Presentation and Swimsuit Competition event had a distinguished set of judges composed of Jeff Evora - Senior Director for Gaming Events and Promotions of Resorts World Manila (RWM), Scott Sibley - Chief Hotel Operating Officer (RWM),  Stephen Reilly - Chief Operating Officer, Martin Paz - Chief Integrated Marketing Officer (RWM) and Tati Fortuna - Managing Director of Scribble Works Productions, Inc. who were all instrumental in determining with their points or votes the winner in the best in Swimsuit competition.

The event also awarded the Darling of the Press, or the Media Darling, as voted by members of the press including Wazzup Pilipinas.

Goya Take It : Enjoy Your Chocolate the Way You Want It

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm a self-confessed chocolate lover! I would do anything for chocolate even if it means sacrificing other sweet treats just to have a bite of the sweet chocolatey goodness of this treat sent from heaven!

The Greeks were on to something when they called the cacao tree the “food for the gods.” It is, after all, where chocolate comes from. And, if left on their own, people would anoint chocolate a food group, like grains and vegetables.

To many, chocolate is already an elixir, capable of banishing fatigue, boosting flagging spirits and mimicking the giddy feeling of being in love. That chocolate has other health benefits (decreasing the risk of stroke, upping heart health) is, well, more reason to eat it!

In fact, Goya has found another easy-peasy way to get your fix: by just taking it with the new Goya Take It.

Raket Market is the Philippines Newest Online Marketplace for Raketistas

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Each one of us would like to be able to run a business, may it be big or small, solo entrepreneurship, partnership, or even a corporation. But almost everyone starts out small (unless they have a rich financier, or kapag big-time si Daddy, or when you suddenly win in the Lotto, or got a huge "pamana" or inheritance).

For those who do not have the means yet to make it instantly big, there is a new website that allows us to post our small businesses or "rakets" and gather attention from the public looking for products and services online.

RaketMarket.ph is an online marketplace for Pinoy’s who want to make extra money using the Internet thru “rakets,” or small services. It is also a place where members can sell their own products, or refer the products of other members and receive a certain amount from the sale.

But wait, everyone can actually also post in the site regardless if they're business is big already (though many of them can afford aggressive promotions already if they really are "big" enough). The site adds opportunity for the business owner to increase its potential customers, and since its Ambassador is the very popular comedian Tado Jimenez, that's a face you can trust that will surely appeal to the masses or "madlang people".

THOR: The Dark World 3D Blocked Screening on October 30

 Wazzup Pilipinas!

I'm sure not to miss the blocked screening of  THOR: The Dark World 3D on October 30 at Shang-Cineplex, EDSA Shangri-La Plaza. Wow! The Php 550 blocked screening fee even includes free popcorn and drinks, loot bag goodies, plus a chance to win in raffle for all attendees!

I'm a fan of all Marvel comic book, cartoon and movie franchises so hearing that there's going to be dedicated movies for my beloved comic book characters is awesome news!!!  I've watched all of them superhero movies - every single one of them, both on the big screen and at home when the DVD copies becomes available. I guess I never get tired and would always have a kid's heart and love for these fictional characters from the imagination of superb writers and artists from the comic book industry.

The fascinating CGI or Computer-Generated Imagery that the movie producers have been incorporating on their movies have improved a lot and continuously making people impressed with the life-like and stunning visual stunts and effects to enhance our movie experience! It has made superhero movies feel more powerful and a feast to the eyes.

NBA 2K14 Season is Now On and Going Strong!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I've been playing the NBA 2K game franchise since its very first release! Whew! Did I just revealed my age? Nah! I started out young, as a toddler! Hehehe !!!

Seriously, I really played the latest basketball game version every year, and comparing the newest version with the previous, the updates, the improvements, the additions, even tried the patches released that will somehow modify or enhance the game.

I played on both PC and Playstation but I really prefer to play longer on a PC so that I could easily multi-task with other work. I only play on the console if I really want to keep focus on rest and relaxation.

It was great news to know that the season is on for NBA 2K14 as it becomes available here in the Philippines.

The SRPs of the game boxes were reported as Php 2,395 for the PS3, Php 2,195 for the XBox, and Php 1,295 for the PC.

Devina DeDiva Racist Comments Against Miss World Megan Young of the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"A Facebook comment supposedly calling Miss World 2013 Megan Young and Filipinos "poor, filthy maids" triggered online outrage on Tuesday, as screenshots of the alleged post made the rounds on social networking sites.

"Miss Philippines is Miss World? What a joke! I did not know those maids have anything else in them," a certain Devina DeDiva was quoted as saying in the viral photos.

Responding to a comment saying Filipino women are "cute, humble and honest," DeDiva said, "They are poor, smelly from cleaning toilets and uneducated."

"They are less privileged everywhere," she added. "What a joke those people cleaning our toilets won Miss World!"

The account went on to call Filipino girls "easy," as she challenged commenters to air their "baseless opinions."

Placebo Paintings at Galleria Duemila on October 7 to November 2

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“Placebo Paintings” stems from the drawn parallelism about thoughts on the act of painting to the empty placebo drug that produces miraculous effects. Painting, itself, is empty in pragmatic functions, but this too, is its oxymoronic reflex, as its inability to define itself makes it viable for various audience to regard its importance.

“Placebo Paintings” recognizes the power of the commonly misunderstood medium, or the empty pursuit of painting, to change views, to take an effect on psyches, and for a momentary but reverberating moment, to pinch a nerve in what is our understood humanity that proves to be moving and inspirational.

Working on the medium of painting for the past two decades, the artist-personnel composing “Placebo Paintings” have wrought the meandering extensions and possibilities of the medium, in their own ways.

Opted strategies have included working on paintings under the microscope of conceptualism. The paintings are done from at least a degree removed stance that necessitates the consideration of the work from the point of view of the artist’s context. The detached aesthetic employed is characterized by wit and humour in its artistic hedonism bordering on the esoteric. The mix is weaved with a preference for the past, opening cracks that romantically filter nostalgic fragments that expand and enrich the hunting grounds of the pursuit.
