2nd Laguna Blogging Summit: Social Revolutionist

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Get ready for another huge social media event soon brought to you by the same people who gave you the 1st Laguna Blogging Summit.

The 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit 2013 will be held this coming October 15 and 16 and will start at 8am to 5pm at the same venue where it was held last year. The Cultural Center of Laguna, located at the Municipality of Santa Cruz, the capital town of the province of Laguna under Governor Jeorge "ER" Ejercito, will play host once more to the 2nd run of the biggest blogging event in Laguna.

The 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit aims to make all Laguenos
aware and more educated about Social Media and Digital Marketing, and will also promote the Tourism of Laguna. The organizers are bringing experts and notable speakers who are highly successful in their respective fields and advocacy programs to share useful strategies and tips to an expected bigger audience.

"The theme this year is Social Revolutionist, very appropriate for what's happening today through the proliferation of social media that's now integrated with our everyday activities. People are not only using Social Media to promote their products or services or just to hook up with their friends, they are also using it for political campaigns, advocacies and even job hunting. Social Media revolution is happening and we can see like-minded individuals gathering to form groups with the same beliefs through the use of Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn and further continuing it offline. There are so many professionals and advocacy groups right now who were formed from Facebook accounts and hugely benefiting from it. We are bringing these experts to Laguna and we are hoping that my fellow Laguenos will learn from them." According to Engr. Grace Bondad Nicolas, the lead organizer of this event.

It's More Fun in the Philippines Branding Campaign Wins Yomiuri Advertising Award

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippines continues to attract global attention, as the Department of Tourism’s It’s more fun in the Philippines branding campaign bags the Readers’ Choice for the “Fun” category of the Yomiuri Advertising Award 2013. The awarding ceremony was held on 14 June 2013 at the Prince Tower Hotel, Tokyo, Japan.

Started in 1984, the award was conceptualized with the goal of inviting the readers’ participation in the selection of winners. The award is composed of two main parts: (1) advertisements created by the readers and (2) advertisements selected by the readers. The success of the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) may partly be attributed to the power of social media, this being the launching pad and source of never-ending support. The ‘fun stuff’’ of the website has engaged browsers and supporters to contribute their own versions of the memes. Through the apps, some of the best products have been utilized as materials for above-the-line and below-the-line advertising.

“It may be beginner’s luck as this is the first time that the DOT has advertised in Yomiuri, one of Japan’s leading newspapers. We were told that the DOT is the only national tourism organization (NTO) recipient under this category which could mean one thing: we are undisputedly FUN,” DOT Tourism Attache to Tokyo Valentino Cabansag shared.

Cell Sites Pose No Adverse Health Risks

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Radio frequency signals coming from cell sites do not pose any adverse health effects, according to Globe Telecom, citing studies conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to Emmanuel Estrada, Globe Head of Network Technologies Strategy, radio frequency signals coming from cell sites are classified as non-ionizing. Other low frequency devices that emit non-ionizing radio signals include transistor radios, microwave ovens and baby monitors.

On the other hand, ionizing radiations are those that have higher risk of adverse health risks that include x-rays, ultraviolet rays, gamma rays, which can break the chemical bonds in DNA.

“Based on studies conducted by WHO, the world’s most trusted authority in health issues, there is no convincing scientific evidence that the weak radio frequency signals from cell sites or base stations and wireless networks cause adverse health effects,” Estrada emphasized.

Camiling, Tarlac : A Summer That's Better Late Than Never

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Everyone deserves a meaningful summer vacation.

Summer vacation usually starts at the end of March and ends at the first week of June. In this limited period of time, how can we say that we’ve already spent our vacation wisely? What do we really mean in saying “meaningful summer vacation”?

Maybe some of us would answer that meaningful summer vacation means doing things that would make you enjoy life. Some would say it means to experience travelling to unusual places but for me, a meaning vacation simply means having time with important people in your life. And that’s how I spent my vacation.

Goddess of Agriculture

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The great Olympian goddess of the earth is Demeter and more as the goddess of producing fruit, and consequently of agriculture, whence human food or bread. She was looked upon also as the goddess of marriage and was worshipped especially by women. Demeter was depicted as a mature woman, often crowned and holding sheaf of wheat and a torch.

Demeter was the daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and sister of Hestia, Hera, Aides, Poseidon, and Zeus. Like the other children of Cronus she was devoured by her father, but he gave her forth again after taking the emetic which Metis had given him.

As agriculture is the basis of a well-regulated social condition, Demeter is represented also as the friend of peace and as a law-giving goddess.

Mighty Goddess Artemis

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Artemis is one of the greatest goddess I’ve encountered in exploring the Greek mythology. Besides of being beautiful, she was also protecting those who were in need. She was that exceptional that she captured my attention. This picture was captured in the English Culminating Activity last year. In this picture, Artemis was the role played by Meg Celine Cruz a former Pascian. I admire her because she was able to imitate Artemis: her strength, appearance and beauty really fits in. I admire Artemis mainly because of her courage and beliefs.

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus, the mighty ruler of the Olympian gods who is considered to be the king of gods and goddesses. And Leto, the early and favorite lover of Zeus. It was said that Zeus married Hera while Leto was pregnant. After an affair and secretly impregnating Leto, Leto had to give birth to Aretmis while being chased by the Python sent by Hera. Fortunately for Leto her first child Artemis, was born without any pain. Artemis didn’t bring any pain to his mother all throughout the pregnancy stage of her mother until she was born and that is one of the amazing things on her.

The Greek God : Artemis

Wazzup Pilipinas !

In Greek mythology,Artemis was the daughter of Zeus, the mighty ruler of the Olympian Gods.Artemis was the great Olympian goddess of hunting, moon, forest, hills, virginity, fertility(she became a goddess of fertility and childbirth mainly in cities) and protector of young girls, bringing and relieving disease in women; she often was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows and also she often was depicted with the crescent of the moon above her forehead and was sometimes identified with Selene(goddess of the moon). Her main vocation was to roam mountain forests and uncultivated land with her nymphs in attendance hunting for lions, panthers, hinds and stag. Contradictory to the later, she helped in protecting and seeing to their well-being, also their safety and reproduction. She was armed with a bow and arrows which were made by Hephaestus and the Cyclopes

In one legend, Artemis was born one day before her brother Apollo. After an affair and secretly impregnating Leto, Leto had to give birth to Artemis on the island of Ortygia while being chased by the python sent by Hera, then, almost immediately after her birth, she helped her mother to cross the straits over to Delos, where she then delivered Apollo. Fortunately for Leto her first child, Artemis, was birthed without any pain. Artemis her twin brother was Apollo.

On her birthday, when she was 3 years old, Artemis asked 6 wishes from Zeus, his father.

Urban Kitchen Showcases Kitchen Wonders

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I got to attend an event that I was hoping why wife should be attending if she was blogging because it fits perfectly for her being the master of the kitchen. I do cook every once in a while but she still outdo me in all types of kitchen tasks.

But whoah! Our guest chef during the event was a man. I guess the "bigger kitchen" has been dominated by men already. When before there were only cooks, now there have been a proliferation of chefs - of the male species - all over the world.

Those huge restaurants in Makati, BGC Taguig, Eastwood, and Quezon City are now highly favorites because of their chefs who know their way in the kitchen and in our stomach.

But these chefs also have their own favorites aside from the dishes that they meticulously prepare. Yup! you've probably guessed right if you said : kitchenwares!

Princess Catherine Gives Birth to Baby Boy

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"It's a boy! Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has given birth to the first child for her and Prince William." ---- CNN

Kate Middleton, also known as Princess Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge and wife to Prince William, has given birth to a bouncing baby boy of 8.6 pounds (that's heavy).
The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth after weeks of anticipation and fevered speculation about the sex of the third in line to the throne. The baby boy was born at St Mary's hospital in London at 4.24pm. Both mother and baby are doing well, but will stay at the hospital overnight accompanied by Prince William.

A deluge of congratulations lead by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh who are said to be "delighted" by the birth of their great grandson. Prince Charles said he was "enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time".

Thousands of well-wishers had gathered outside the Palace to await news, while the press have been camped outside the Lindo Wing outside the Paddington Hospital where the Duchess gave birth for several weeks.

The baby, who is still unnamed as of this writing, is third in line to the British throne.

Mark Zuckerberg Announces Death of Facebook Executive Chef Josef Desimone

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Mark Zuckerberg has announced the death of Facebook Executive Chef Josef Desimone via his Facebook account:

"I have some very sad news to share.

This morning Josef Desimone, our executive chef, was involved in a motorcycle accident and I’m sorry to report that Josef has passed away.

Josef was a Facebook legend and institution. "Chef Josef" joined us in 2008 and built our culinary team from a handful of employees in a single café into a global team with dozens of world class restaurants. He never compromised on quality while maintaining total attention to detail. Josef played an incredibly important role in defining our culture during those first years and right up to the present.

Away from Facebook, Josef was just as energetic and driven. Almost every weekend he was volunteering with veterans’ organizations, hosting firefighter breakfasts or supporting some other valuable cause. He had a strong belief in giving back more in life than he took, and it shows in all the people who mourn him today.

We will find a way to permanently honor Josef’s legacy at Facebook soon. For now, let’s remember and celebrate the passing of a great friend, devoted mentor and inspirational leader."

Torque Droidz Sport Versus the Arc Mobile Prime 350 Mobile Phone Review

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Let's go straight to the point.

The Torque Droidz Sport and the Arc Mobile Prime 350 are so affordable yet they have features too good for their price range. With the addition of extra memory to improve storage space, they could very well be the promising units enough to satisfy the basic mobile needs of an individual.

But, of course I would let you know which one between the two is more superior.

I usually do my reviews after more than a week of usage so as to make sure everything was well checked and tested. We can't afford to rush things. We need to be able to present the actual daily experience with the device.

WD My Passport Air 500 GB Portable Storage Drive Review

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Well, I definitely need more hard drive space. That would always be a requirement every after few months since I deal with lots of photos that I take during events - and product reviews would be one of them busy activities that will add more files on my USB storage drives.

I really do not want to fill my MacBook  hard drive with all my files. It's so difficult to organize with the very limited space taht I most likely will just reserve for my Photo and Video Editing applications. Most of the time I would like to carry the photos and videos around in several USB drives to show them to my clients.

However, dangling with me several USB drives just won't do any more. I need more storage space but I want a durable storage space at the same time. I'm even willing to pay more just to keep my data safe, and I prefer a storage space that will let me access my data fast - with ease and convenience. Having no worries means a lot especially when your files mean more expensive than the gadget itself.

Luckily, I stumbled upon the WD My Passport Air.

Gantimpala Theater announces 36th Theater Season Line-Up!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

As I've said before in many of my social media accounts and blog articles, the theater never ceases to amaze me. I would at anytime chose to watch a play rather than attend a movie premiere. Well, the big stars may be in the movies and TV, but I can see and appreciate real talented actors and actresses in theater compared to the other artists that we see in film or TV. Theater performers are indeed better and in fact well-motivated, highly inspired and matured. They do not only rely on their good looks alone, but more on their acting ability. They are not after huge paychecks but the personal satisfaction of being able to do well above and beyond their talent fees.

I would have to agree to what Director Joel Lamangan had to say during the press conference held at Cafe Ysabel in San Juan that there is a significant difference between TV/Film actors/actresses and Theater actors/actresses with regards to the desire to learn and improve their crafts and acting prowess. He had said it right when he mentioned that he would like to bring all of them, referring to the TV and Film performers, to Theater so that they will learn the discipline and hard work involved in theater acting, which will eventually make them better performers in the future.

I also admired the conviction of the actors/actress, and even directors, as some shared their life stories and backgrounds/origins and what the theater means to them. It seems these type of artists demand real respect from us, not that they have to force it out from us, but because they truly deserve to be applauded after every stunning performance.

IRRI Partners with PhilRice and National Nutrition Council in Kanin Get It Promoting More Nutritious Rice

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Brown Rice is essentially healthier and more nutritious than white rice.

"Brown Rice has more vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), and B3 (niacin) than white rice because 60 to 80% of the said vitamins gets loss during milling.

There is also an estimated loss of 40% manganese, 60% phosphorus, 40 to 75% dietary fiber, 70 to 90% fat, and 15% protein."

But why do we patronize the latter rather than the former?

Globe Business Bats for PHL Cricket

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In a move to bring cricket into the collective sporting consciousness in the Philippines, Globe Business recently announced it will do a major pitch to make the international game a local staple by teaming-up with the Philippine Cricket Association (PCA), the governing body for the sport in the country.

With this agreement, Globe Business will be the lead sponsor for the Philippine National Cricket Team and the International Sixers Tournament, with naming rights for the squad as well as company branding and exposure for all PCA-hosted collateral and events, among others.
