Cartoons Versus Anime: Which One is Better?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Which one is better? Cartoons or Anime? Lets take a look.

First of all, I would like to clear up the bias that animations are for kids only. Just because there aren’t physical actors, doesn’t mean that concepts, intellectuality or even maturity are sacrificed. As an example, I’ll use Death Note. This particular anime delves into the ethical dilemma of whether or not killing can ever be justified. It also involves a thick plot with characters that use, dare I say it, cognitive thought and intellectual inquiry to suit their causes. Does that sound childish? On the American end, cartoons such as Family Guy and Futurama are meant to appeal to adults through humor.

Anime and Cartoons are types of shows than can be watched by majority of children and some teenagers or adults. These two are animations that reflect two cultures. Anime reflects for Japanese culture while Cartoons reflect for American culture. That’s the reason why these two have their own differences. Anime and Cartoons are usually for viewer’s entertainment. Anime is an animation which originated from Japan and is now popular internationally. They say that it is more popular than Cartoons which originated from Americawhich is also known internationally. But majority of the viewers are saying that Anime is much better than Cartoons because of their differences.

For me, Anime is better 'cause of its natural and very great animation. Its like in a whole different level from anime. We'll see what will you decide which one is better. :)

ANIME

Anime are Japanese animated productions featuring hand-drawn or computer animation. The word is the abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, where this term references all animation, but in English, the term is defined as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastic themes. Arguably, the stylization approach to the meaning may open up the possibility of anime produced in countries other than Japan. For simplicity, many Westerners strictly view anime as an animation product from Japan.

CARTOONS

A cartoon is a form of two-dimensional illustrated visual art. While the specific definition has changed over time, modern usage refers to a typically non-realistic or semi-realistic drawing or painting intended for satire, caricature, or humor, or to the artistic style of such works. An artist who creates cartoons is called a cartoonist. The term originated in the Middle Ages and first described a preparatory drawing for a piece of art, such as a painting, fresco, tapestry, or stained glass window. In the 19th century, it came to refer to humorous illustrations in magazines and newspapers, and in the early 20th century and onward it referred to comic strips and animated films.

I'll just share my own favorite between the two. My favorite anime is One Piece.

And my favorite cartoon is Adventure Time.

In my opinion, both are great but one will surely own the other. I really like both of them but when choosing what's best, i'll go with anime. So what do you guys prefer? Cartoons or Anime? :) Your choice!

  2. For me.. I like both. In cartoons, I really like Spongebob, Avatar, Teen Titans and more, while in anime, Naruto, Fate, and Fairytail were cool. For me, Anime and Cartoon has no difference. It is based on our own perspectives.

  3. Both are just mediums of entertainment.. In the comparison between anime and cartoons, what are we trying to compare?

If we compare to the graphical level; surele anime would look better than any cartoon. But cartoon animations are made to be "child friendly", as anime is made to look better for the growing audience.

By story, anime tend to have a straight forward, connected storylinel; but as for cartoons, they tend to have individual series, in which stories bound to be different from one another.

In terms of entertainment, both are entertaining... but they suit different levels of entertainment based on audience preference. If a 5-year old child is to comment on this, I'd be sure he/she will vote for cartoons.
