In the recently conducted Cagayan Valley Region Tourism Council (CVRTC) Assembly, the officers and members of the CVRTC endorsed Resolution Nos. 3 and 4 to Tourism Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez, Jr. supporting the Department of Tourism (DOT) in its accreditation function as provided in the Republic Act No. 9593 or Tourism Act of 2009.

Tourism Secretary Jimenez was the guest speaker in the CVRTC Assembly held last 21 October 2013 in the Province of Quirino. The gathering was attended by local government officials, owners of accommodation establishments, travel and tour operators, and other tourism industry practitioners.

In the resolution, the CVRTC strongly encourages tourism enterprise owners to apply for accreditation under the provisions of Republic Act No. 9593, particularly the mandatory accreditation of primary tourism establishments and voluntary accreditation of secondary establishments. The DOT Standards of Accreditation is governed by internationally accepted standards to ensure that DOT accredited tourism services and facilities are at par and competitive with the rest of the world.

In his message to the council members, DOT Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez, Jr. said “it is the job of everyone in this room to keep the pressure up and encourage people to come to the Northern Philippines because you know instinctively how to make guests comfortable.”

“That every time you see a beautiful waterfall, an old church, a pristine beach in your respective provinces, always remember God gave you all these things because He wanted the world to meet you. My request is for you not to accept members who think that if we don’t have bigger airports, we shouldn’t work on our tourism. Get people to come to your place, help me force the national government to build you better infrastructures, and let us fill up our airports and seaports with tourists and travelers,” Tourism Secretary Jimenez concluded.
