Bohemian Rhapsody : 40th anniversary of the Czech-Philippine Diplomatic Relations

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Czech Embassy in Manila in cooperation with its project partners TRAVELIFE Magazine and The Dusit Thani Manila introduces the rich culture of its country to the Philippines and its people.

Entitled “Bohemian Rhapsody”, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of the Philippines will bring on the islands the spirit of the tiny Central European country known for centuries under its historical name, Kingdom of Bohemia.

A sequence of different cultural events focused on Czech music and cuisine will be held in Manila [and in some other regions of the Philippines] on the second half of October, 2013.

Classical music will be presented by the charming, talented and rising soprano star Noema Erba. She will be presenting a selection of songs from the greatest classic composers of Europe. Noema, whose first performance in the country in March 2012 got an enthusiastic response by the local audience is returning to the Philippines to present her mastery once again on the “Night in the Opera” concert in Dusit Thani Manila to be accompanied by Philippine musicians, tenor Conrado Ong III, baritone Marvin Gayramon and pianist Prof. Augusto Espino.

Traditional folklore music from the Moravia region in the eastern part of the Czech Republic will be presented by Kubalovci, a group of young non-professional musicians. In today’s modern technical world, these artists decided to engage with the music, which characterized by their region for the past generations. After some years of performing together, they made their hobby to become mastery. Their music is cheerful, relaxed and comradely and was traditionally part of the rural fiestas and celebrations in their region, which is known for production of quality wine and strong home made distillates. For the Philippine audience, their series of concerts will be unique, when not the first ever chance to get encountered with cymbalo, a special music instrument which the group is using.

Aside from the two main concerts hosted by The Dusit Thani Manila on October 20 and 21, 2013 intended for invited guests (VIPs, personalities from Philippine political and business spheres and Manila diplomatic core) and Travelife readers and friends, the Czech artists will also perform on further occasions aiming to show the Czech music to the general public, i.a. to the students and families.
