Survivors and families of the ferry collision victims make use of Globe Libreng Tawag center to keep in touch with their loved ones.

In quick response to Friday evening’s Cebu ferry disaster where a number of people died and over a hundred still unaccounted for, Globe Telecom immediately sets up two Libreng Tawag centers which victims and families of those affected can use to establish communications with their friends and kins.

The first Libreng Tawag site is at the Pier 4 Terminal in Port Area where about 300 survivors are staying while the second Libreng Tawag center is in Sugbutel, one of the two hostels which house the other survivors.

The free service can be used for local, national, and international calls and text until such time that the situation stabilizes.

“During times like this, we know that communications is very important. The rescued passengers wouldn’t have their mobile phones with them but at the same time, they need to contact their families, relatives, or friends for assistance or for reassurance. Through the LIbreng Tawag centers, we hope Globe could be of help to both the victims and their loved ones,” said Fernando Esguerra, OIC of Globe Corporate Social Responsibility.

M/V St. Thomas Aquinas 1 of 2Go Shipping Lines was reported to have 118 crew members and 752 passengers while M/V Sulcon Express 7 owned by PSACC (formerly Sulpicio Lines), has 36 crewmen. The Manila-bound passenger ferry and the cargo ship collided Friday around 9:03 pm off Lawis Ledge in Cebu, leaving over 20 people dead and about 150 more missing.
