Mighty Goddess Artemis

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Artemis is one of the greatest goddess I’ve encountered in exploring the Greek mythology. Besides of being beautiful, she was also protecting those who were in need. She was that exceptional that she captured my attention. This picture was captured in the English Culminating Activity last year. In this picture, Artemis was the role played by Meg Celine Cruz a former Pascian. I admire her because she was able to imitate Artemis: her strength, appearance and beauty really fits in. I admire Artemis mainly because of her courage and beliefs.

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus, the mighty ruler of the Olympian gods who is considered to be the king of gods and goddesses. And Leto, the early and favorite lover of Zeus. It was said that Zeus married Hera while Leto was pregnant. After an affair and secretly impregnating Leto, Leto had to give birth to Aretmis while being chased by the Python sent by Hera. Fortunately for Leto her first child Artemis, was born without any pain. Artemis didn’t bring any pain to his mother all throughout the pregnancy stage of her mother until she was born and that is one of the amazing things on her.

Artemis’s twin brother is Apollo. Apollo and Artemis both hunt with their silver arrows. In the Greek mythology, Artemis also known as the Roman goddess Diana was famous for being the goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the natural environment. She was a virgin goddess who valued chastity so strenuously that she killed mortals for violations, animals and girls, and aided in childbirth. She often used her skill as an archer to kill swiftly, although she could also heal. She is the lady of the wild things. She is the huntsman of the gods. She is the protector of the young.

I looked at Artemis as a wise and brave woman. One proof of it was her birthday.
On her birthday Artemis asked for Six wishes from Zeus. And these were
1. To be able to live life chaste.
2. To be able to be a lifelong bachelorette and never marry.
3. A bow and arrow like that of Artemis’s
4. Hunting dogs to assist her hunting.
5. Stags to lead her chariot.
6. And 80 virgin nymphs to be her hunting companions.

Zeus was amused by wishes and being the good father granted her each wish she asked for. Artemis would never marry, and would be chaste for all eternity. She roamed with her hunting dogs, nymphs, and her stags, hunting all throughout the mountains where she resided.

In Greek mythology Artemis, despite her "wildness" (her refusal to conform to conventional ways or tradition) and her fierce independence, was depicted as one of the compassionate, healing goddesses. Of all the Greek goddesses, she was the most self-sufficient, living life on her own terms, comfortable both in solitude and in holding the reins of leadership.

I think If I’ll choose one goddess whom I admire or want to act to be when I have given the chance, it would be no other than Artemis. I admire her strength, capabilities, characteristics, mind set and doings.

  1. Hi Jimelle! Your article is quite unique because you listed some of the Artemis's wishes which is not included in others works. And your sentences are very clear and precise that it can be easily understood. Though, you should've put some story behind why she chose to never marry and such. But all in all, t'was very good.

  2. Hi Jimelle :) I find your article interesting because you take a different pattern of writing it. The information that you provided was sufficient for the article and your additional opinions made it complete. I found some words that is misspelled, but it may be just because of typhographical error. Overall, the article is well-written.

  5. My melancholic stress gone since I was reading the article of yours. I find the sentence construction very good and the appropriate and best usage of words in describing Artemis. It's quite difficult to use the best words fit the descriptions, still you've made a best choice. Gotcha!
