Amici: Pizza, Pasta, and Gelato Extravaganza

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Amici has introduced around 10 new dishes to tease your palate, make your heart palpitate, and maybe wanna make you drool all over - that last one maybe too much.... hahaha!

Seriously, I've known Amici to be one of the great sources for my "gelato" craze, and have been one of my often visited resto in the Metro. But it was only that day during the introduction of their new Italian-inspired dishes was when I've heard of the history and origins of Amici.

If you are not aware, "Gelato" is the Italian word for "ice cream" derived from the word "gelatus" which means "frozen". It is made with milk, cream, various sugars, and flavoring such as fresh fruits and nut puree - that's how my fave online encyclopedia describes it.

But what's the difference between ice cream and gelato aside from one originating from Italy?

Ice cream legally has a minimum of 10 percent fat, gelato is made with a greater proportion of whole milk to cream, so it contains more like five to seven percent fat.Gelato is churned at a slower speed than ice cream, so it's denser because not as much air is whipped into the mixture. (Gelato contains about 25 to 30 percent air, while ice cream can contain as much as 50 percent air) Finally, while ice cream is typically served frozen, gelato is typically stored and served at a slightly warmer temperature, so it's not quite completely frozen.

But wait!, why am I explaining about gelato when my pictures above are actually images of pizza and pasta?. I really can't help it coz they served three flavors of gelato at the last part of the food feature. You know the saying : "Last impressions comes first! Huh?! or was it "First impressions last!" I think I'm getting mixed up! You will also once you've tasted their new offerings!

The branch we visited was located at a very distinctive location at McKinley Hills in BGC of Taguig. You can see the Amici signage from across the Venice Piazza signage where the fountain can also be admired.

Quite a nice spot, if I may say so myself! Hits you immediately when you pass by along the road either on your way in or out. I often find myself taking pictures of the locale's landmarks and photo ops at the Venice Piazza signage will surely make you somehow see the Amici signage as well. It will always be a part of every photo ops! Guaranteed!

The interiors of Amici is almost like my home where you can see several family pictures hanging on the walls! Yup! From toddler to childhood, my graduation pics to my first car, then my babies until my wedding pics.

Maybe Amici wants us to feel at home as we take delight of their sumptuous dishes served one by one - not rushing, and taking our sweet time.

The view from this window takes you on a view of the fountain from the front of Venice Piazza.

They boasts of 10 new dishes! Wow! so that means 10 times the fun!

"Amici" is actually the word Italian for "friends" and it originated from the efforts of  Salesian priests from Don Bosco, and eventually fell in the entrepreneurship hands of the people who found gelato to be a fruitful business venture. Until now they are in dire gratitude to have been able to serve to a wider reach of customers to really appreciate great dishes aside from their famous gelato.

But, let's get to down to the real reason for this blog - to introduce the new delish menu of Amici!

Care for some salad?

The Mediterranean Blue Cheese and Walnut Salad only has a few ingredients but it definitely fulfilled what I want in my salad - the right mix to bring out an appetite. The grapes and walnuts along with the greens and some blue cheese was more than enough to satisfy even without the dressing.

The Asian Chicken Salad had breaded chicken slices, oranges and carrots mixed over greens and topped with fried wonton strips, served with sesame dressing.  Everything on this plate disappeared except some greens.

They introduced two kinds of Pizza rolls - basically pizza that was rolled (obviously) - This one's called the Prosciutto and Artichoke Cream Pizza Roll! It's made up of artichoke cream, cream cheese, prosciutto and arugula topped with reduced balsamic vinegar. But I got to taste only one piece from this entire plate so I couldn't really tell if I got a good one.

Another kind of pizza roll was available for photo ops but I am so sorry because I never got to taste this one they called Prosciutto Portobello. It was not served at our table. So no comments for me.

The Chicken Parmigiana is breaded chicken in tomato meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, served with rice pilaf and a side of roasted vegetables. It is a must try to please even the meticulous diners. Though I got to try only a slice of the breaded chicken, I was really well pleased.

I loved the Pork Marsala! It's rolled pork filled with ham, cheese, button mushrooms and cream, all reduced in Marsala wine. It is served with rice pilaf and a side of roasted vegetables.

Though I think the serving is a bit too little for the price attached to it, the taste makes up for it. I would pay more for a great tasting dish but there are other less priced alternatives to put more value into my money.

The Penne Rosa and Bacon is made up of Bacon (no surprise), pomodoro and bechamel sauce sautéed with mushrooms, garlic and onions. More bacon toppings please!...and it will be perfect!

The Garlic Chorizo Spaghetti is sauteed garlic and olive oil topped with lots of Spanish chorizo slices, plus garlic bread on the side. We enjoyed this better because of the chorizo slices but when we ran out of spaghetti noodles, the chorizo slices tend to be quite salty on their lonesome.

I was asking for more bacon on the Penne Rosa and Bacon, but this one had too much Chorizo. I actualy don't mind because that's more value for our money (but was the saltiness worth it?).It was great along with the garlic bread and my friends also find it awesome!

The Truffle Mushroom Pizza was heavenly for me. Perfect combination of toppings - Portobello, shitake and porcini mushrooms mixed with truffle oil, mozzarella cheese and topped with Arugula. Sounds very healthy and looks really yummy!

The Smoked Salmon Top-Crust Pizza is Amici's new way to enjoy their Italian wood fire baked pizza. The pizza is made up of smoked salmon, capers, black olives, tomatoes, béchamel sauce and mozzarella cheese embedded in a crispy pizza crust.

Though I didn't like onions at all, this pizza took my mind off the onions because of its adorable taste. More please! What? only one slice for me?

and as I've been saying from the very start....you should not miss trying out their gelatos. You've never really been to Amici if you didn't dig in to at least one scoop of their Caramia Gelateria!

I tried all three flavors - pistachio, porchero and sans rival - and they all challenged my best choice. What a dilemma!

The final verdict?
Only a few words : I find everything at Amici very DELICIOSO!!!

Thank you to Philip Moran and his dad Danny for continuing to manage the Salesian legacy of authentic Italian menu.
