Red Rock Hot Spring : Therapeutic and Health Beneficial

The red rocks in our path was an indication that we were near at one of our destinations for the day.

What causes rocks to weather to a reddish color?

The reddish color that you see in weathered rocks is caused by oxidation. The trace iron in the rocks, after having been exposed to the elements, primarily water, gets oxidized because of the oxygen found in water and making it turn red to reddish brown (typical color of rust).

Depending on the rock composition also, some rocks have layers that, after being exposed due to weathering, contain traces of other reddish particles that give the rock its reddish color.

This was the case for the Red Rock Hot Spring were you will see red rocks all around the vicinity surrounding the hot spring.

A simple signage made out of plain wood nailed in one of the coconut trees showed that we were already at "pulang bato" or Red Rock Hot Spring.

Red Rock Hot Spring at Pulangtubig is the best way to relax in the cold temperature of Valencia, Negros Oriental. It takes its source of tolerably warm water (ranging from 37.5 to 39.5 degrees Celsius) from a naturally occurring spring which spouts at an opening by the pool and under which you can bathe upon.

Be careful with wearing white clothes for it might have the rusty coloration of the water. Despite that, people who come here regularly claim that they have been relieved of the signs and symptoms of such health problems as Asthma, Arthritis, Allergic Rhinitis, Fatigue, Insomnia, Malaise, Sinusitis and among others. The dip also promises a good and relaxed sleep through the night.

The water is flowing and is drained every night so you are assured of its cleanliness and sanitation while bathing.

You'll enjoy dipping in the man-made pool with warm water coming direct from the mountains. A few foreigners were there already when we arrived. It seems the place is more frequently visited by foreign tourists rather than the local tourists. It's one place that is not yet highly crowded and probably less appreciated because of its simplicity and underdeveloped facilities.

Hot springs or medicinal waters with high mineral content are those which emerge spontaneously from the core of the Earth, or are caught by means of drilling and, as a result of their physical and/or chemical characteristics, may exert therapeutic effects which relieve or restore people's health. These waters have energetic factors such as the powerful ionization, mineralization, radioactivity, gases and PH variations.

The effect of this kind of waters over the body is multiple and complete. Among their healing properties, the following stand out:

• They stimulate the defenses of the body.

• They purify the blood, thus eliminating toxins and waste products through the sweat and the diuresis they cause.

• They reactivate the delayed metabolism of many rheumatic patients.

• They have an extremely useful un-stabilizing power, considering the participation of allergies in rheumatic conditions.

• They re-educate the thermo-regulating system, of great importance for the rheumatic patient who has lost its capacity to react and to become adapted to changes in the environment.

There were just a few huts for rent available so its really not ideal for a huge crowd. You cannot also stay there for overnight because there are no accommodations.
