DOH Erik Tayag Dances the Oppa Gangnam Style

Before, we saw him dance to the tune of Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger, now we see him dance ala Korean rapper Psy of the hit song Oppa Gangnam Style. He even made a live telecast in an ABS-CBN morning show (Umagang Kay Ganda). He is one guy who would do anything to promote Health and specifically safety against the dangerous and deadly firecrackers (though there's a new firecracker that's called Gangnam Bomb - or something to that effect).

I really think blowing up things in celebration of any festivity is a crazy idea we just inherited from our ancestors. They have this superstition or belief that it helps drive away evil spirits - another crazy idea.

We respect the tradition but not to the extent of taking property limbs and lives in the process.

Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Enrique Tayag encourages children at Gagalangin, Tondo to dance the Oppa Gangnam Style of Psy instead of lighting or playing with fireworks/firecrackers in welcoming the New Year.

“Nakarinig kami na gagawa sila ng paputok na Gangnam. Uunahan na namin sila ng Gangnam Pasko dance. Umaapela `yun sa bata,“ - We heard that the manufacturers are planning to create a firecracker named "Gangnam". We will stay ahead and create a Gangnam Christmas Dance. This will appeal to the children." says Tayag.

DOH statistics indicate that young children are the usual victims during the revelry. Tayag reiterated the DOH warning to children not to pick used, lighted firecrackers. About 80% of all fireworks-related injuries are blasts or burns without amputations, 13% are eye injuries and 6% are blasts or burns requiring amputations.

But then again, the real danger is with the extravagance and carelessness of the people. Similar to the point of view that "Guns do not kill people, people kill people", "fireworks" would not really cause amputations, fires and death if the people would not create too powerful explosives-like fireworks, or would not light-up fireworks while drunk, or would not step-out of the house during a fireworks fun-time of a show-off neighbor, ....and then again, vendors will not even think of creating these formulations if there would be no buyers. So, don't you think the fault lies again within the people?

I truly admire the "aggressiveness" of Dr. Eric Tayag of DOH. Truly admirable and well deserving to be a DOH leader.

Have fun watching the videos of the Undersecretary dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style below:

  1. Their campaign helped in preventing the use of firecrackers. I also admire Dr. Erik Tayag for what he did. I believe that there should be ban of firecrackers.

  2. Somehow, maybe this campaign lessened the rate of damaged, dead and injured this new year. I always find it hilarious when Dr. Tayag dances, recently the trending Gangnam style, and I find him cool for willingly doing that.

However, I am neutral about implementing the total ban for all types of firecrackers. We don't particularly use firecrackers, but it has always been a part of the Filipino tradition to use them in welcoming another year. For that matter, let the people decide.

  3. Well somehow they were successful in having the kids dance. And somehow lessen the use of firecrackers.
I admire his courage to dance in national television though, if I was him I would be shy to do that. Maybe I'll just think of another way to promote safety and health. Hahaha.

I think there should be total ban of the firecrackers. There should just be a limit. There should be discipline. Now here goes discipline again! People should be responsible in buying firecrackers and be responsible in using it!

  4. I think they're successful. :D very SUCCESSFUL.

  5. It is actually difficult to say if the DOH was successful enough in preventing people from using firecrackers over the recent holidays as success-rate for any campaign is relative. While the figures presented coming from government hospitals could be lower compared to previous years, data from private hospitals/paying patients is not made available at all times (confidentiality issues), plus, there could be those with minor injuries who had opted not to go to the hospital anymore. Presenting the option of dancing to the Oppa Gangnam Style instead of playing with firecrackers made DOH Usec Tayag popular and sort of left an impression on the children, most teenagers and adults, on the other hand, managed to ignore it. Hence, it would have been better, in my opinion, for them to come up with a slightly modified campaign to suit teenagers and adults alike. Because of the injuries brought about by firecrackers over the past years, money used up for useless things like these instead of it being used to put food on the table, pay for better education or health services, and the utter lack of discipline and sense of responsibility shown by those who patronize it, I am truly in favor of a total ban of all types of firecrackers.

  6. as a normal resident of pasig city, i could say that DOH is successful on what they are campaigning. because it is evident that almost all of the children i could see in our street was just dancing gangnam style. which he have campaigned.yes i admire Erik Tayag :)
i don't believe that all fire cracker should be banned, people who become injured because of these fire crakers deserves it, because they don't know how to obey the departments :)

  7. I would like to point out that the campaign may have been appealing to little kids. They just use firecrackers for fun, so why don't have fun in some other way. However, I can't say if that was successful but I admire his perseverance. At his age, dancing seems like a hard thing to do but he just did it for the sake of our safety. I still believe the best way to stop this is placing a total ban on firecrackers. If they can't do it than maybe even just a high price increase on these dangerous items should be enough.

  8. For me the DOH is not successful in preventing people to use firecrackers, what they did was reduce the number of people using firecrackers. Filipinos are persons who rely on luck, they use firecrackers to prevent bad luck and i personally believe that there should not be a total ban of firecrackers because it is part of our culture to use fire crackers during New Year's Eve. I admire Dr. Erik Tayang for dancing Oppa Gangnam Style just to promote safety and health.

  9. I think the Department of Health was successful in preventing people especially children to use firecrackers during New Year’s Eve. I admire Dr. Erik Tayag for dancing Oppa Gangnam Style to promote safety and health. I don’t think all types of firecrackers should be ban because it is already a Filipino tradition and we can’t be get rid of it anymore.

  10. The department of health was somewhat successful in preventing to use firecrackers during New Year’s Eve. Of course, we cannot avoid the fact that some Filipinos are still using those firecrackers even though lots of advertisement had been made for us to prohibit in using that. I mean, it is really on our culture and we cannot erase it that fast. I admire Dr. Erik Tayag for his determination in prohibiting people in using firecrackers.

  11. Somehow, the department of health is successful in their campaign against the firecrackers but I think it is not because of their new style of campaigning but it is the choice of the people already because they are scared already. I admire Dr. Erik a little bit because I find dancing Oppa gangnam style is too mainstream already that everyone is fond of dancing. Maybe he likes dancing Oppa gangnam style hahahaha but i adore the creative thinking and perseverance. I don't think that there should be a total ban of firecrackers because it's a tradition already. I think the best way is to teach the people how to use the firecrackers carefully.

  12. All of us heard of the statement, "Lets surprise the year with a blast!", please, don't be too literal. But then after hearing the news that Firework related cases this year 2013 decreased massively, almost half of its number! Which is a good news. Thanks to the Department of Health's Gangnam campaign and the people created their noise with music instead of tremendous firecrackers. With his age and old body, I praise Asst. Sec. Tayag for working very hard to promote his campaign and being very successful with it. Still, the idea of total firecracker ban is still quite hazy. It will cause a lot of distress to the Firecracker industry. To prevent these cases, we should discipline ourselves on proper handling of these explosives, that is all we can do to help the government from worrying. I am still hoping that discipline can still help our problem with firecrackers.

The Department of Health was successful in preventing people in using firecrackers during the New Year's Eve. I do admire him for dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style through his efforts just to lessen the number of people who will use firecrackers. There should be a total ban of firecrackers.

  14. The Department of Health really did a great job in encouraging each and every Filipino to prevent using firecrackers. Because as they represented the facts, victim of firecrackers were lessened. I think the DOH is successful, but not that fully successful I can only say that they are very successful if there were really a no firecrackers New Year's Eve. I admire him for dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style. In that way, I can see his efforts and he really want to help everyone. There should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers for me, because with that we can really prevent yearly accidents concerning with the firecrackers.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The campaign of our Department of Health led by Mr Eric Tayag was very successful in lessening the number of victims in firecrackers and also the used of firecrackers during the Christmas season and the New Year's Eve. Their campaign using the dance craze "Gangnam Style" was also a big hit and factor in educating and preventing the used of firecrackers. The dance craze "Gangnam Style" which they used was very popular so the kids were easily convinced about not using firecrackers in celebrating the two special occasions. Our DOH also set some alternatives to use to make our celebration safer, danger free and less accident through using or having "torotot". During those times I only used "torotots" and I can say that it was more fun and safer to use.

  16. The DOH was successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during New Year’s Eve. Dr. Erik's idea to promote safety and health is very nice. It informs us and at the same time, it entertains us.

  17. The Department of Health is really successful in preventing people to use firecrackers. I admire Mr Eric Tayag for what he did, he just showed that celebrating New Year' s Eve doesn't necessarily mean that we need to use firecrackers, he gave alternatives to have a more safe and healthier New Year. There should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers, it is for the common good!!!and with this, we can prevent yearly accidents caused by firecrackers.

  18. Yes, as per PNP'S statistics report it was effective. Yes I admire Dr. Tayag because it caught the attention of the masses especially the younger ones. I don't believe that there dhould be a total ban, it's impossible to achieve.

  19. I admired Dr. Tayag for his effort in campaigning against firecrackers. I don't believe that they should ban all kinds of firecrackers because it has been a tradition for how many years.

  21. Yes, because unlike last years, there are fewer people who are able to buy these dangerous firecrackers. I admire Dr. Tayag because he is the one who will do everything he can just to get the attention of the people and warn them about the negative effects of these kind of explosive materials. I don't believe in this regulation because, the correct approach is to have a designated location where they can ignite these firecrackers and have a specific person that will trigger the explosion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Based on the statistics report I saw on TV last year. The DOH had really proven the benefits of that OPPA GANGNAM STYLE which made the number of people to use firecrackers lessened. I really admire Dr.Erik Tayag for dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style just to promote safety and healthy because it was so cool. I do believe that there should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers even though it's impossible to achieve but the government must do an overall fireworks in every place that will attract the people to watch into it.

  23. The Department of Health was successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during the New Year's Eve. The fact that the number of victims of firecrackers lessened is an evidence that they are successful. I admire Dr. Tayag for dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style in the streets, with the children, and in front of the Filipinos just to promote safety and health. It just shows how he values and how he cares for his fellow citizens. I think there should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers, especially the dangerous ones, to ensure the safety of the people and that no one will be a victim again.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I admire Dr Tayag on what he did because based on my observations, the users of firecrackers now is lessen if we will compare it last year. They really proven that in just one dance by our secretary, the users of firecrackers is lessen. I don't agree about the banning of firecrackers because it is our tradition, just use it properly for their safety. I suggest if they will banned it, banned only those firecrackers that is not that safe.

    ReplyDelete
  25. He was successful in depleting the number of firecracker injuries (including stray bullet victims) but only DEPLETE not OBLITERATE. We need a zero-casualty new year celebration. I admire Dr. Tayag in his efforts in dancing Oppa Gangnam Style and I commend him for targeting lower age brackets because kids are the people most susceptible to firecracker-related injuries. I believe in total ban. I think people should learn what a real celebration should be, something that is ZERO-CASUALTY

    ReplyDelete
  26. The use of firecrackers have lessened this year and I believed that it is not solely because of Dr. Tayag dancing the Gangnam Style. I think it is part of a bigger reason, probably people already knew the dangers of using firecrackers. I admire Dr. Tayag for this because he knows how to connect with people and to dance considering his age. Haha. There should not be total ban of firecrackers. They should only ban the firecrackers that are extremely dangerous.

I don't believe that DOH was successful in promoting the NOTUSING FIREWORKS CAMPAIGN. i CAN SAY THAT i ADMIRE Erik Tayag for his perseverance and to patience to call the attention of the $th yr qrt. I dont believe that we should ban totally the usage of firework, It just needs PRECAUTIOMN

    ReplyDelete
  28. Firecrackers are crazy, dangerous, unhealthy and disturbing. They should be banned completely, haven't they thought of the ways how we could enjoy new year without putting their lives at risk?
Dr. Tayag was admirable for doing such act, promoting better and healthier way of celebrating was awesome. Maybe everything would have been better if he let his younger people to do the dancing and he on the word matters.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think DOH has failed to prevent people from the use of fireworks but I think the amount of casualties decreased. I admire Dr. Erik Tayag for dancing gangnam style since it's quite rare for someone to have bizarre ideas for prevention. I think some firecrackers should be really banned, but not all. I think it would remove the spirit of New Year if that happened.

  30. Before, Anything else I really SALUTE DOH Erik Tayag for his concern about the children and I really appreciates it because he do it for the Children not for him alone. I think The DOH wasn’t successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during the New Year’s Eve because for myself I also use firecrackers during the event. I think that it is hard to restrain you for using firecrackers because it has been a tradition for us Filipinos to use it and it’s hard erasing one’s tradition to them.
I not saying that they didn’t accomplish their task because for me they did a good job especially Dr. Erik Tayag because he promotes safety and health for us teenagers and children. I know that there aren’t efforts that will be wasted its just that effective. Sorry to say this but I strongly disagree to ban all types of firecrackers because it’s a tradition like I said and it is hard to erase it. It’s just like taking the happiness of us in the New Year. In case someone is affected it’s their responsibility not yours. The only think to solve this is to be DISCIPLINED enough in using this. Thank You!!!

  31. I think Department of Health was succesful in preventing people to use firecrackers because last new year's eve there are much less people in our neighborhood that use firecrackers. I really admire Dr. Erik Tayag for dancing the hit song Oppa Gangnam Style. He has a different technique on how to promote health and safety and I salute him for that. I do agree that there should be a total ban of firecrackers here in our country because it just bring more damages and accidents especially on children.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think the DOH was successful in lessening the incidents brought by the firecrackers during New Year's Eve. I sure admire Dr. Tayag for dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style in public like that. I would be very embarrassed I was him. But I don't actually agree to totally ban the use of firecrackers in the New Years. I always anticipate the fireworks display every New Year. I guess the firecrackers should only be handled by the professionals and not by ordinary people.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can say that the Department was not successful, there were still firecracker victims but it was lessen.I credit him for dancing Gangnam Style, it's childish but he did it for our safety. We should banned the firecrackers or increase their value.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I dont think that DOH was successful in preventing the use of ofirecrackers.... we can hear at every mile that there is still explosions and gun fires ... thats why there is still accident.. so even though the accidents were lessen this 2012... there is still an awful lot of people got hurt because of firecrackers so i would say no for a moment until the DOH really banned firecrackers..

I belive that promoting health wiht Oppa gangnam style is ... successful.. becasue its fun to look at anf enjoyable to all agaes.. so yeah :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think they were NOT THAT successful in preventing people to use Firecracker during New Years Eve. But the number of people that were injured was lessen. I am amused by Dr. Erik Tayag for dancing the Oppa Gangnam Style just to promote safety and health. He's really good! Considering his age. Haha. I believe that firecracker should be ban. They can use other "pampaingay" . :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Somehow, the campaign was effective. Why? Because the casualties are lower compared to previous years. I salute Mr. Tayag for dancing his way to promote anti-firecrackers campaign. I bet his campaign was very catchy because the song is very popular and almost everybody knows it. Using firecrackers is a part of our culture. It is part of our tradition and it is hard to erase that part of our personality as a Filipino. I guess what they need to ban are those super deadly firecrackers like Goodbye Philippines. I won't be surprised if someday, there'll be Goodbye MilkyWay.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree that DOH wasn't really successful in precluding people to use firecrackers because there were still lots of reported cases of injuries due to firecrackers. I believe that there should be a total ban of firecrackers in our country and just dance like what Dr. Erik Tayag did to promote a safer way to enjoy New Year's Eve.

    ReplyDelete
  38. DOH secretary is very cool. What he did isn't a disgrace. All he did is superb coolness. HAHAHA.

Anyhow, the results of the survey showed that the campaign is effective. I mean, casualties during the new year celebration for 2013 was lesser than 2012's. So, I can say that he did an amazing job.

I really admire him. He is one open-minded person. He really lives up to everybody's especially the children's style. I am pretty sure that the kids appreciated what he did too. And they did enjoy a great time dancing! :)

I disagree upon the total ban of firecrackers. I believe that the dangers are not caused by these but because of the undisciplined and improper handling of the people. Who would be disappointed if he/she did not see even a single firework in the sky? We all would be. I mean, it is for entertainment. And I believe that this kind of entertainment serves as a binding spell for the family. It is for the family, friends, couples, etc. to watch together. And it would be fun to still see them in the next year's celebration. But, i strongly recommend proper handling of these said items. -Maku :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Actually, I really think that the Department of Health was quite successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during New Year's Eve. You see, compared to the previous year, the amount of people using fireworks has decreased dramatically. However much this is true, there were still people using firecrackers, and what is really bad is that the firecracker used has been reported to be illegal. As a result, in the end, there were still injured people, and most of them didn't even have the intention to use firecrackers. Aside from the harm coming from the explosion of the firecracker, i.e., energy, along with the exploding mass (can be compared to shrapnel), it has been shown that they have been significant factors of air pollution. It has been shown that air pollution significantly reduces people's lifespans, along with their intellect. Well, I do admire Dr. Erik Tayag for being able to dance that kind of... stuff, even though he is a respected adult. You see, it takes guts to be able to dance something which can be considered somehow crude (even though it isn't) when you are a supposedly respectable person. By doing this, it shows that he is really respectable. Well, another argument I can offer is that it would offer people the chance to use money for food (most likely as that is what I would definitely do) instead of firecrackers. Well, it's probable that it wouldn't be banned as a whole, as it is considered a Chinese tradition already by us Filipinos (however much it's only the part of being able to make significant amount of noises that supposedly drive away evil spirits). Well, the Chinese did discover them as they reportedly used fireworks for, as is here, festivities, and also for war. Well, they weren't able to utilize them effectively for war (according to our standards), or rather, they chose not to, as China is really protected by its landscape and as such they were not accustomed to such wars as a whole, and their beliefs actually also are a cause in more ways than it does not.

  40. It seems to me, that it was a travesty in the formal propagation of the "carefulness awareness" that DOH Secretary Erik Tayag danced the Gangnam Style. I don't know to the multitude, but I think it's just something to laugh about. I mean, it would be more serious and perhaps more effective if they did the awareness campaign in a the conventional and more formal approach. Well, since the commonality loves the more fun and informal approach, I pretty think it also worked, in some ways. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's just flattering to know how these officials are devoted on their careers and obligations, with the humility and a very different approach, I think they are successful in their mission, the mission to lessen firecracker victims. Casualties are low compared to the previous year, which means that DOH's plans turned out positive.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I salute him for doing that.. :D. We all know that being one of the official of the government, they should protect their image but him.. he will do anything even though others will react.. He really do his part and i think this is one of the reason why incidents were lessen.. GOOD JOB SIR :)))

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks to the effort of Department of Health, most especially to Mr. Eric Tayag for dancing the famous dance craze "Gangnam style" just to promote the danger of firecrackers to use.The campaign that they did is effective because according to the news,Despite these unfortunate incidents, the number of casualties decreased quite drastically.

More and more people now have increased awareness of the dangers of playing around with firecrackers and their effects on the environment. The days are gone when one wakes up with soot in nostrils.People are now resorting to the safer noise-makers like “torotots”, clanging pots and pans, car horns, popping up the volume of stereos and of course, dancing the Gangnam.Nice job DOH, keep up the good work

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, they were somehow successful because the number of victims of firecrackers during new year's eve has lessened. I admire him for his willingness to do anything just to promote safety and health. I think that there should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers. First of all, there are lots of alternative ways to enjoy and celebrate a new year without putting our lives at risk and second, there are lots of alternative ways besides firecrackers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think the DOH became successful on their campaign against firecrackers. Dancing oppa gangnam style to promote safety and health is a good way to influence other because gangnam style influences many. I agree that firecrackers should be banned or i may suggest that community fireworks display be promoted in the coming years.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I can say that they really somehow succeeded in this campaign. We all know the victims were lessened. So Mr Tayag deserves a cake for that. And also for dancing LIKE THAT. :)) I like his love for the people, dancing like that will make someone so embarrassed but he still did it just to persuade the people.
I believe all types of firecrackers should be banned because all of them are dangerous. Even fireworks SHOULD be banned. They all can cause harm, and safety of everybody is important especially when a new year of our lives is coming.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I really don't think that they were successful in preventing the use of firecrackers during last New Year's Eve. I could still hear all the noise coming from the fireworks and kept hearing news about people getting hurt because of the firecrackers. Even though I don't think it's quite successful, I still think that Dr. Erik Tayag is admirable for what he did just to promote safety and health. It was such a bold move to dance the Gangnam style in front of so many people that are watching just to promote safety and health. I do believe that there should be total ban of all types of firecrackers. It would be safer and I really don't like the noises fireworks make so that's kind of the main reason why I think it should be banned.Haha. Well, firecrackers might be fine in the hands of professionals but not in the hands of children. I think it would be fine if they had just one big fireworks show and all the people won't be lighting up fireworks by the street and will instead be just watching the fireworks show peacefully and without any cost when it comes to health and safety.

For me The DOH was somehow successful with their campaign against the use of firecrackers but I think it did not totally prevented the people to stop using firecrackers they were just able to reduce the number of it. and I their new style of campaigning because they used Gangnam Style where in fact people all over the world admired this song and dance. Dr. Erik Tayag did a great job and I adore his creative thinking and his self-confidence. but I somehow disagree that firecrackers should be banned, because it is our tradition already. but instead teach the people how to use the firecrackers carefully.... :D

  49. Yes DOH was successful enough in preventing the usage of firecrackers. Great job.

I admired Dr. Erik Tayag's confidence and guts , by dancing the Gangnam Style just to promote safety and health , considering him being a government official.

I believe that all types of firecrackers should be totally banned to prevent further loss of lives and other essential body parts.

Hoping that everyone realize that life is important.

  50. I would like to commend Dr. Erik Tayag for what he's done just to promote the prevention of using firecrackers. It would be hard for a professional, especially an assistant secretary, to do this stuff. There has been a decrease of people being injured or having complications compared to the previous year. This shows the success of their campaign against firecrackers.

It would be hard to remove or ban the use of firecrackers since it has been a part of our culture. Filipinos have been used to it. They know the risks of using these explosives yet they still continue to support these products. Overall, it depends on how you handle things, whether they be explosives or not.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I belive that DOH was successful in the endorsment no firecrackers during new years eve. because I can see the effect of their campaign. almost all the houses are playing gangnam style.
I personally admire Dr. Eric Tayag because he gave effort just for safty of other people.
I believe that we should not ban firecrackers totally because In part of the filipino people, it is a tradition that they are lighting and making noise using firecrackers. But instead they should ban those are potentially dangerous and campaign proper parenting guides on making their children safe.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I guess, DOH had successfully prevented people to use those firecrackers during New Year’s Eve; which is a great job for them! I truly admire Dr. Erik Tayag for showing his groovy side just to uphold safety and health because these had only shown us how determined he was.
Lastly, I do not agree that all firecrackers must be banned because there are few classes of firecrackers that is not that dangerous to use and for me, it’s also based on how a person will use those; either being cautious or being careless. Aside from this, for me, the essence of New Year celebration may be gone if all of those firecrackers would be banned.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I really really admire the Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary which is Dr. Eric Tayag for all the efforts he exerted just to lessen the firecracker victims for the New Year's celebration. I enjoyed watching news about his campaign because he really encouraged the people, especially the children to dance the Oppa Gangnam Style of Psy instead of lighting or playing with fireworks/firecrackers in welcoming the New Year. It is so successful because based on the surveys that I saw in the news, Dr. Eric Tayag's campaign really helped to lessen firecracker victims. It was definitely a job well done!

    ReplyDelete
  54. they may not be super effective, but at least they made a difference. i think the celebration of New Year this 2013 is much safer than the previous ones. i admire Dr. Tayag's perseverance in pursuing this project, for not giving up. but i think they could have thought of another effective way. Gangnam style maybe effective but i am not a fan of it probably because it is too mainstream. atleast they should bring something new. still it's a smart strategy. i dont think they should fully ban the use of firecracker. just limit the usage of these

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't think that this campaign is very successful although the number of victims are lessened because first of all maybe it's people's choice not to used firecrackers and fireworks simply because they don't want to be in danger. And I don't even get the point why he used "Gangnam Style" for campaigning, yes, it's too mainstream and almost all of us know about that song but I think he should use or create something new and more appropriate song to use in this campaign in relation to what DOH is promoting but anyway, I do admire him in dancing this because at least he tried everything for their campaign considering his age :)Yes, because it's for aour safety :))

  56. Yes the DOH was successful. Yes, I admire him for dancing and influencing the children not to use firecrackers. Yes, all types should be ban.

  57. Yes the DOH was successful on preventing the usage of firecrackers during the New Year's Eve and I really admire Dr. Erik Tayag for the way he promoted health and safety by dancing this trending music "oppa gangnam style" especially to children. Yes, I believe that there should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers/

  58. It was a job well done by the DOH on preventing the usage of firecrackers during new year's eve. It was really a great job in pursuing people and children to stop or lessen this kind of circumstances. I really adore what Dr. Erik Tayag have done, and the way he promoted safety and prevention to this kind of dangerous explosive materials. For me, NO. I really believe that firecrackers should always be a part of New Year. :)

  59. The Department of Health is successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during New Year's Eve. Yes, I admire Dr. Erik Tayag because even though he's already old-aged, he can still dance such steps that other old-aged people can't just to promote health and safety. All types of firecrackers must be banned. I believe there are still many alternative ways to celebrate New Year.

  60. The Department of Health look for another idea in promoting that we should not use firecrackers. the idea of dancing oppa gangnam style was really helpful.Honestly, me and my family danced oppa gangnam style celebrating New year's eve! We don't use any firecracker(that was my FIRST TIME!) but still that celebration was so fun! I commend Dr. Erik Tayag for being creative in promoting safety and good health. I believe that the idea of dancing oppa gangnam style was successful! hear hear!

  61. Well base on the statistics record, there is a noticeable decrease of about 70 to 80 percent in the number of firecrackers' victims compare to last year(2011) and I commend the DOH for that.
No offense but, I may say that Dr. Erick Tayag has lowered his pride and somewhat desperate for doing that. Maybe he could have think of better ways than that.
I think there no necessity for banning all types of firecrackers. For me, this would occur naturally. From the remarkable decrease in number of firecrackers victim, I may say Filipinos have already learned from their experiences. The low quality of life we have today, I think they would be more practical in spending their money to something more useful during these occasions than allocating the money they have for firecrackers.

  62. Yes they were successful in preventing people to use firecrackers but not all of them. There were still some casualties reported during new year's eve that involved firecrackers and even stray-bullets.Yes I admire him for dancing because other officials can't do the same because they're more concerned on how they will look to other people than their work or real purpose.I believe that firecrackers should be totally banned because we can always celebrate new year's eve without firecrackers.

  63. Based on statistics, this year had begun with fewer victims of firecrackers compared to last year. The Department of Health surely did a good job of preventing the people from using firecrackers specially the dangerous ones. Although it seems to be unnecessary, but I do appreciate the effort of Dr. Tayag as he impersonates the Korean rapper PSY as he performs the Oppa Gangnam Style. I do agree on having a total ban of all types of firecrackers.

  64. For me, the DOH was not successful in preventing people from using firecrackers to reduce the number of accidents this New Year 2013, but good thing they were able to make a commendable difference from last year.
I admire Dr. Eric Tayag for having the guts to dance in public but I hope he doesn't feel humiliated or anything.
I agree that there should be a total ban of all types of firecrackers because it is not a pleasant way and is a sad way to celebrate New Year hearing people's lives are at risk because of their own carelessness. :(

  65. Yes, it was successful. I really admire him for dancing gangnam style, but I thinks there are so many ways to influenced children not to use firecrackers, but it's okay with me. I think not all, like POP-ups. ahaha.

  66. I think they were successful in preventing people from using firecrackers during New Year's Eve. I have watched from the News that the wounded and killed rates were reduced therefore indicating that people have become more aware of the dangers that these firecrackers possess. I think Dr. Erik Tayag's technique was effective for we all know that this song is really typical these past few days and whose attention wouldn't be caught, right? :)) I believe that there shouldn't be a complete ban with these firecrackers because this is part of the Filipino New Year Tradition and we cannot just simply rub it out

  67. It was really successful ! In a matter of fact, my neighbor is playing the Oppa Gangnam Style song in a matter of 26 hours I think ? From 8 am in the morning until 10 am in the morning the next day. The project made a huge difference about New Year's this year and New Year's last year. The number of injured people or the victims of firecrackers have decreased, but new firecrackers were introduced. It is also a good guideline to our safety because it ensures our own health and our safety. (:

  68. I think partially yes specially their target is children but when we talk about people I think its somewhat inevitable. Because this was part of the tradition in celebrating New year's eve but indeed its on the people. They should be very responsible it should start to themselves to prevent such bad things. I admire his positive side of desperation just to promote safety and I think this treat is somewhat helpful and very entertaining specially to the children. I think we can't prevent the selling of firecrackers but we should be discipline enough to use it properly and not to abuse it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I do not believe that there should be a total ban of firecrackers during New Year. An old tradition cannot be removed immediately. For me, dancing gangnam style didn't help the decrease of firecracker victims. The reason is that the people understands the futility of using this and the people are responsible enough to discipline theirselves.

  70. 'Let's welcome the new year with an Oppa Gangnam Style'
I've heard on the news that the number of firecracker victims on 2012 is lesser than the previous year. Maybe the Dr. Tayag's did a great job dancing the Gangnam style. Which I really admired. Imagine, he prevented and saved hands from exploding, fingers from being diminished or even dying just by being awesome? Respect.
But it has been every Filipinos' tradition to start a new year joyfully by using firecrackers. I do agree in banning specific firecrackers especially the dangerous ones, but not all.

    ReplyDelete
  71. First in my opinion. Fireworks are not that harmful. JUST USE YOUR HEAD. Don't be an idiot holding it until it bursts. Discipline yourself in handling this kind of stuffs.
    As for my answer...

I think YES it was successful enough. I recognized in my village from the past years. Many were still celebrating with fireworks but this New Year, it was different. Yes I admire him very much because i think only a "bibo kid" dances funny in front of many people and yet he was successful in promoting it.
I don't want to ban them fireworks because it became our tradition. For me, it'll be corny not seeing beautiful lights in the sky in New Year's Eve.

  72. According to Tayag, they are using the popular dance craze not only to entertain people, but more importantly to entice them, especially the children, to look for safer means of merrymaking. I SALUTE HIM! :D Why? Because I guess this is one of the reason why incidents were lessen. I idolize him for his eagerness to do anything just to nourish safety and health. For me, this would occur genuinely. From the peculiar decrease in number of firecrackers victim, I may say Filipinos have already learned from their experiences. The inferior affection of life we have now, I think they would be more empirical in spending their money to something more useful during these occasions than spending their money for firecrackers.

  73. He truly is something. At his age, it took him all the guts to do that dance. As we all know, Gangnam is a mainstream dance. And in promoting one thing, we should go for what the people like. And it just did it; it got our hearts.

Having a total transformation takes time. And for the past few years, we already had prohibitions which went stricter year after year.. And now, I believe, is the time for us to fully ban firecrackers.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I admire Dr. Tayag's confidence. He did not let shyness to take its place. It's just amazing that with this promotion of oppa gangnam style, we can see that it really had an effect. The number of firecracker victims really did decrease. I can say that this idea is good. But having all the firecrackers banned is a different thing. Maybe they could ban those that are dangerous but please don't take the tradition away. ;))

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think the DOH were so desperate to decrease the rate of firecracker injuries that Dr. Erik Tayag promoted the dancing of Gangnam Style in new years eve because no matter how many times they play the song and dance with all over it is no use if there is the seller and the buyer of these firecrackers. But by the way I was impressed about decrease in the statistics of the rate of firecracker injuries and I believe that firecrackers should not be banned but hence it should only be sold to "Professional" and licensed firecracker user

  76. I think DOH was successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during New Year's Eve because firecracker victims were reduced.I admire Dr. Erik Tayag for what he did just to promote safety and health. But I do not agree that there should be a total ban firecrackers because I believe it's a part of our tradition during New Year.

  77. This New Year's Eve, according to the news, the rate of firecrackers accidents is lower than that of last year's, so yes, the Department of Health is successful in preventing people to use firecrackers during New Year's Eve. I do admire Dr. Erik Tayag for dancing this Oppa Gangnam Style just to promote safety and health. He really is into keeping the people, especially the children, safe and healthy. For me, not all firecrackers should be ban. Just those firecrackers that are too explosive and too dangerous. I believe banning all firecrackers is not just the only way to prevent amputations. The parents of little children should be responsible of taking good care of their sons/daughters. They should not let them use firecrackers that are not appropriate for them, and they should not let their children light up a firecracker without them. People should also know that going out during those hours that firecrackers are ignited is dangerous. They should keep themselves safe for it is for their own good. In short, discipline among the people is really needed. I mean, what's New Year's Eve without the traditional noise of and sparks from firecrackers? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  78. DOH is successful in preventing people to use firecrackers because there are lower rate of firecracker incident. Dancing can persuade people not to play with firecrackers especially that his target audience is children who use firecrackers. I believe that there should not be a total ban of firecrackers because firecrackers can entertain people. I think that we should let the experts handle firecrackers

    ReplyDelete
  79. I admire DOH Sec. Erik Tayag for his program "OPPA GANGNAM". I guess they do successfully what they've expected. And about banning the use of firecrackers in the Philippines, i am not against it. But using firecrackers during New Year's Eve have been part of the Filipinos way of celebrating it. I guess they just have to set a "firecrackers zone" her in the Philippines. With this i guess Filipinos will enjoy celebrating New Year with a very HAPPY and SAFE way. :)

  80. The DOH was a bit successful in implementing prevention against firecrackers by using PSY's Oppa Gangnam Style song during New Year's Eve. This cause the smaller amount of cases in hospitals involving firecrackers like the so called "gangnam bomb" compared to last years rate. But this not end the fact that their are still deaths caused by stray bullets which are mainly from unlicensed and police firearms. Come to think of it that why would they fire guns in the air rather than in the grounds which is safer. I admire Erik Tayag having guts in dancing oppa gangnam style in promoting safety and health even though his not a good dancer. So i believe that there will be a total ban of not just firecrackers but also a nationwide gun ban during the span of december to january. NEVER LATE THAN NEVER!!!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I admire DOH for a job well done. Good job guys! I was impressed on how they come up on such a great idea. Instead of playing with firecrackers, people should dance the oppa gangnam style more because it also more fun. I admire Doc. Erik because he has inserted a lot of efforts just to campaign the anti-firecrackers policy. I think there shouldn't have a total ban of firecrackers. Not all disobeys the laws. Don't generalize.
