Cafe Antonio Coffee and Resto of Dumaguete City

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Coffee is a subject all of its own, from the selection of the right beans, the roasting, the grinding of the beans, the maintenance of the coffee machine, the heating of the cup, the right extraction of the crema, the heating of the milk to the right temperature, and then the serving of the coffee to the customer!"

Cafe AntonioCoffee and Resto for the past few years definitely was the shop that served only the best coffee in Dumaguete. However, it has recently morphed into becoming a full-fledged Coffee house and Restaurant!

We really took it to ourselves to visit the place after a friend suggested it. Our friend was a photographer, and a very artistic one with a definite eye for beauty, and as expected, the place was a photographer's heaven....but is it a food lover's heaven as well?

Cafe Antonio was located at the 2nd floor of the Spanish Heritage Building located at Sta. Catalina Street along Rizal Avenue of Dumaguete City.

Their Facebook page says its "one of the best dining experience you can have in this quaint but beautiful city of Dumaguete. A full-fledged resto and coffee house in one place. Experience Dumaguete. Experience Cafe Antonio."

The seats at the Patio Victoria  were some adorable antique-looking swings....Nice!

There were a few of these artworks that were very impressive and probably took a lot of painstaking time to create.

However, I'm not really sure I was satisfied with the food or service....or did we just arrived during a dull time when some of the food in the menu was not yet available (maybe they really open during the busy hours of the night time), and they couldn't keep up with the clarity of our orders though there was just a few customers at that particular time of the day (that's just a nice way of saying they kinda messed up our orders a little).

We arrived during the afternoon "merienda" time of around 3 pm and ordered a few drinks and was suppose to order some pizza, but we were informed that pizza was not yet available (after the waitress checking in with the kitchen to confirm).

So we ended up ordering different types of potato servings...really? After the waiter came back to us (after a few minutes) to clarify what we really ordered...huh?  It took them awhile before they realized they never got our exact orders.

The menu book is a bit....uhhmmm...hate to say it....yucky...like it was previously soaked in water or some oily stuff and later dried.... or it has been used for ages already and has been passing through many oily and sticky hands.

There were very interesting decors around the resto. It helped that we took some pictures of the place and its decors while we patiently waited for our orders. Though these miniature cars are only for display and are not for playing - warning to the kids.

There was this guitar on display. Again, not for playing.

So fries, mojos and wedges (I think) - but they all taste one and the same. Nothing unique about each type (flavor is the same) because they probably cooked it in just the same fryer. If not for the mayo in the middle that made it taste a lot better, I wouldn't have finish my first bite. Well, maybe because we were just still full from our lunch at the resort....and just satisfied ourselves with our drinks.

The presentation was not really that appetizing also. No creativity in this particular food serving of potatoes. Unlike the decors of the resto that has all sorts of memorabilia of some bands from the Beatles to the Eraserheads, there was even a guitar and a painting canvas on an easel.

We had to just take it out so as not to waste it - and put it in the fridge back in the resort (to be fair - the potatoes still tasted the same as it was originally after heating in the microwave oven)

The bells are ringing!(not literally) It's already 5 pm.  It's time to go back to the meeting spot of our service that will take us back to the resort. Thank you Cafe Antonio. I would really suggest an improvement in your food and service....or maybe we just were not able to really try out all the other food choices....and oh the coffee! We never really got to try the coffee since it was a hot afternoon and we ordered cold drinks instead.

Maybe next time, Cafe Antonio....I'll drop by again maybe during night time the moment we get the opportunity to go back to Dumaguete.

  4. I don't leave a response, but after reading some of the remarks on "Cafe Antonio Coffee and Resto of Dumaguete". I actually do have some questions for you if it's okay.

Is it just me or does it give the impression like some of the responses come across as if they are
coming from brain dead folks? :-P And, if you are posting at
